This has long been my most anticipated movie of 2008.
After reading all the reviews it has become my most anticipated movie of the entire decade (after the Lord Of The Rings -movies of course ;) )
However I promised my friend I wouldn't go see it without him, which means I'll have to wait almost 3 painful weeks. :o

Brilliant movie and excellent acting (Heath Ledger fucking stole the film) though there were some points that I think could have been better. Two Face was a joke as a villian and Tommy Lee Jones did a better incarnation of him, and why oh why did they fuck the Lamborghini... bastards.

I’m not sure what else they would do with twoface. in the film he is supposed to be pure and a symbol of light and hope and then get broken down by the joker and the people around him as he loses all trust and hope in society. Going from never taking chances with a 2 headed coin to doing things at whim at the luck of 50 50. Heaths roll as joker plays brilliant with a brilliant script. Plays great at the lose lose mind fuck with charismatic dark humor as he does at whim just for the hell of it and because he finds it fun. That dragnet fishing the ocean for catch and release kind of character that is awesome in fiction and one hopes stays fiction. I think the movie brings up great moral situations and thought provoking concepts.

True... but I still feel he kinda deserved a full villain role in a sequel and keep The Joker as the sole villain.

But that's just me nitpicking. Poor Heath Ledger, died when he got the role of his life.

heath was one of my favorite actors and it really saddens me that some carelessness and hes gone.

Since in this film two faces is crucial to the plot line to add power to the interaction between batman and the joker and to give irony with the men's love interests. Take his role out and they need to come up with a whole new story and plotlines. as the joker says that he is the ace the joker plays in the movie

it's going to be really interesting to see what they put on the dvd.

i thought two face was well played!!! a way differnet incarnation than tommy lee's of course!! a very good one at that?!!, but anyways, my sister came over today ( she has been a batman fan since the michael keaton one came out!) and she said she fell asleep and thought the movie was boring and stupid and they just made the sequel for the money(well of course the whole point of a blockbuster movie is the money cause it cost quite alot to make this batman!) she was mad because the joker was supposed to have killed bruce's parents, (cause of the different story line) which i can understand, i actually had to accept these batman movies as based off a differnet batman comic of course to really appreciate them!!

Now if she does not get anything thought provoking or entertainment out of this movie I can only wonder. No movie is just for money. There are ideas in this movie. There are social experiments in this movie. There are pencil tricks in this movie.

In this one song the lyric goes “it doesn’t matter what it is it’s all in how you wear it” it this case it’s all in how you watch it

allright. I HAVEN'T SEEN this movie, so my opinion is based only on my clues. I thik this movie wouldn't be even half this big and respected, what it is right now without the death of Heath Ledger. I think people want to respect his remembrance. There's no way, that it could be better than star wars, or a godfather. Think about which kind of movies we are talking about. The biggest in the history! :rvd:
So I think, it might be really good, but I think, that 60% of it's stature is cause of the death of Heath Ledger. but like allready said, I HAVEN'T SEEN this movie yet.

well that rating system is not a good one to go by for any means when just anyone can vote at whim.

here is the rotten tomatoes review that gives a bunch of newpaper critics and is a little better and some of the writers are very thoughtful and/or hilarius

Actually IMDb-rating system is a very smart indeed.
As you can see "only votes from regular voters are considered," so not just ANYONE affect those lists. Also, the votes are counted in a way that the "1" and "10", the votes usually given at whim if you really hated or loved the movie, are considered less important than, say, "2" and "9" when calculating the actual grade of the movie.
I've visited IMDb for years and I've found it to be very reliable.

...And also during those years I've never seen any movie pass The Godfather (my all-time favourite) or Shawshank Redemption. That's why I'm so impressed, even tought I know The Dark Knight won't stay as #1 eternally.

Not half as big? Dude, this is the "huge blockbuster movie of the summer" of 2008, so it would surely be huge even without the loss of Heath Ledger.
Also, after the Batman Begins, the movie that brought the franchise desecrated by Joel Schumacher back to its glory, vast armies of movie-fans, including myself, have been waiting this movie more than eagerly to say the least.
Many movie-critics, whom I've counted on in the past are praising this movie just as much as the movie-going public. I don't suppose they as professionals would praise the movie for such insignificant reasons.

I’m just not sold on the rating system for movies. There is no control or category to set a movie into real comparative analysis. Too many subjective factors. It’s not like we are judging if someone has drawn a perfectly straight line where we have an ideal to measure by and calculate one factor at a time. Different movies have different strengths and weaknesses and appeal to different kinds of viewers or different moods of viewing. If someone stumbles into dark knight sleepy and with a preconceived concept of what they want it to be then they will not get the same experience as if they have no preconceptions and actively imaging themselves within the movie and use their imagining discovering and creating their own movie experience. Just like with music the listener’s mood and attitude is the only factor of what they will think of a song at a certain time. So I think part of a review should be about what mindset might make the most out of the movie. It’s interesting that more of the lower reviews that I have read have come people that are anal and spend their time trying to disappoint themselves. It’s interesting when people try to put themselves of a pedestal as being higher for finding ways to disappoint themselves or knock off feelings and concepts as if they aren’t Important. All in all. Every attitude one sees a movie with will alter the experience.

seriously though.. that movie was pretty damn good, i really didnt even think of heath ledgers death really when seeing that movie, and at the end when the people clapping with his name showed up on the screen was kinda funny, you'd think christain bale would have got something, cause of this he was overshadowed which kinda sucks. (well at the theater i had went to anyways)

Well, he kinda DID, besides, playing the Batman is not that hard, just sound scary and do the mask do all the acting.

eh, the really only thing i find somewhat flawed is how Batman really distorts his voice, i think he overdoes it a bit. :)

That could be on purpose in order to hide his REAL voice, plus it makes him spookier so I thinks its "justified".

Why so serious?

Just saw the movie, and the only word I can say is GREAT.
I like the dark environment, and all the actors were great.
The best one was Heath Ledger.

Catwoman is a must, but I would replace Poison Ivy with either Penguin or Riddler. Preferably with Riddler, since there's already one with Catwoman and Penguin. Plus the director Cristopher Nolan has stated he doesn't like the character Penguin. ;)
I'd also like for Harley Quinn to do her movie-debut at some point.

Wild rumours are that possible new Catwoman would/should/could be Emily Blunt:

Judging by her looks (only seen Devil Wears Prada from her) I couldn't imagine a better choise. :P

Great film. Ledger stole the movie, potential Oscar nominee I think. Creepy as hell.

Very dark and dramatic. What a Batman film should be all about.

I thought it was good but by no means amazing, think it was hyped up too much and it was also way too long.

More or less what I thought. It is a very good movie, but in no way a masterpiece that everyone seems to think it is. It is dark, the acting is very good, the Joker is a creepy psycho, but it also has too much stuff packed in 2.5 hours. It would have been better to drop the Two-Face plot entirely and show more of the Batman-Joker conflict.

I think the Two-Face plot was a vital aspect of the entire conflict. It showed how in the conflict between the two, the 'real' heroes can be twisted and corrupted, as a cost of the conflict. Batman was totally incorruptable, the Joker was evil for evil's sake, so we have the two extremes. Harvey Dent was the balancing force in the middle, and his turning was a price of the conflict.
