I'm backing up my music collection (28G). This time I'm trying to back it up using a more advanced method, because my DVD media is so shitty. So I'm trying to implement some sort of parity redundancy strategy with par2 (Reed-Solomon error correction).
Well, for hard disk space reasons, I decided to split my collection in two initially. So, I listed all the bands I have in my collection (38 bands) and split them from Aina through Kiko Loureiro, and from Kotipelto through Warmen. Well, all is good, 19 bands for each backup file, that sounds good.
Then I proceeded to check how many songs were in each group, to avoid a situation in which, although the number of bands in each group were the same, the number of tracks in one of the groups were much bigger or smaller than the other. Well, guess what? Both groups have exactly 1191 tracks.
I mean, what the hell? Are the chances of splitting a music collection containing 2382 files in two according to band names, and ending up with two groups with exactly the same amount of tracks pretty damn low or what?
I think I'm going to save the list of files in those groups somewhere, this isn't an ordinary situation...
