I think it's from the first episode where they just showed how the artists were looking for singers for their choirs. This guy who's singing made it to the choir.

You can see the first episode now on tv 4's webpage, but I'm not sure if it works outside Finland. Anyway, here's a link to video:

Thanks for sharing nef and Tuli. I am certainly hoping Timo wins. Anyways, Lappajärvi is quite famous now....haha. I voted for Thriller cause I think it was the best song from the choices and he can make a nice coreography....maybe something unusual (remember 13 going on 30, the movie?).

Thanks for all the great links. This is really very interesting. Really wish we could see it as it happens instead of waiting for it to make its way to Youtube.

I spent some time checking out all the song choices before voting. Watching the ACDC song, "Back in Black" was a lot of fun, but I'm don't think that's the best song of the choices for this contest. It has too much of a straight forward rock sound without enough depth. With a choir contest like this, I think you need a song with some areas of interest to work with, not just a big group sing-along.

While I really do like the R.E.M. song, "Shiny Happy People", it has always come across as a bit silly to me. I know it was written tongue-in-cheek, but that refrain is still shmaltzy. I also think it sounds like a group party song, instead of something to really show off the choir's talents.

The song by Cher and the Police song had a little more going on and, if done right, could be very beautiful.

That brings me to Von Herzen Brothers' song, "Let Thy Will Be Done." (mis-spelled Lethy  ) Never heard this song. Guess it's only popular in Finland, though it's sung in English. I was very impressed. I could see a choir doing a lot with this song. It has a lot of room for vocal layering, interesting breaks for volume shifts and building, as well as great parts for soloists. I thought those aspects were weaker in the other choices. I don't know how much familiarity plays into the voting, but if it's a very popular song in Finland, it would probably do well.

Ok, that's just my 2 cents, for whatever it's worth. He's probably got a song picked out already, and I sure with enough creativity and work, probably anyone could be a winner

Good luck to the team!

Dunno if you guys outside of Suomilandia can actually see these, but here’s videos from Timo’s choir (Flash needed):

– Jan 25: You Shook Me All Night Long (AC/DC) (in case you missed Tulikaarme’s post above)
– Feb 1: I Was Made for Lovin’ You (Kiss)
– Feb 8: Alone (Heart)

Two choirs have already been eliminated but the Lappajärvi choir is still going strong. The other choir leaders, since hiro23 asked, are Irina, Kristiina Wheeler, Marion Rung, Mikki Kauste and Veeti Kallio. Mainly pop artists and probably not very familiar for non-Finns – you might know Rung if you’re a Eurovision freak. :)

Timo has been very sick (pneumonia) during the past few weeks and was even hospitalized at one point. He’s fortunately doing better now. Take it easy, man!

Thank you so much Moony for keeping us updated. Many of us don't know what's going on with it because many of us don't understand Finnish, (at least me :) ) All I can do is see those videos in the website.
Poor TK! I hope he and his voice are ok by now! Timo take care!

They get interesting song choices for the competition. I have never before heard a women singing about a guys American thighs. I think these performances are awesome and if they made an album it's something I would get. It would be interesting if they made more of the big vocal songs like alone. Perhaps some year they will dwell into power metal. I found one clip with tony kakko conducting a whole choir to sing the cage, which was just too amazing for me.
