To me they sound very similar.icecab21 wrote:the rythem, melody and chord progressions of those songs are completly different. And that "A Tale that wasn't right" rip-off Keep The Flame alive was also pretty good

Re: Celestial Dream
that does not make one a rip off. a tale is not even a celtic song. listen to a lot of celtic folk groups and ballads, its a lot closure to that kind of thing.

Re: Celestial Dream
Whether or not they were similar or not, the tune is pretty generic. I wouldn't be remotely surprised if there were a dozen other ballads with the same melody. What I really enjoy about Keep the Flame is the execution... with the possible exception of the high notes. I thought Tolkki's voice bounding in at those points kind of ruined the mood.
Goodbye came before Against the Wind, right? I think it was on their first album. In any case, THOSE two sound remarkably similar. Intentional maybe?

We're talking about Keep the Flame Alive from New Era/RR Demos and not Keep the Flame...Xelrog T. Apocalypse wrote:Whether or not they were similar or not, the tune is pretty generic. Well, the demo version of it is a Strato song. And considering New Era was supposed to be a Strato Album, I think it counts.Xelrog T. Apocalypse wrote:...... why?

Supposed to be? What exactly am I missing?
Re: Celestial Dream
The songs were written in 2006 and would have been a stratovarius album if not for many factors. The demos that were recorded with stratovaris have been released.

Re: Celestial Dream
What do you mean would have? As in, it was never released?
You had me confused with the context. Sounded like you were implying the song and album were released by another band.

Re: Celestial Dream
There is a demo that was recorded by members of stratovarius, he decided to leave the band before final studio versions were recorded with stratovarius.
There is a studio version that tolkki released as a album called New Era under the band name Revolution renaissance

Everything is ridiculous. Ridicule things.
Off-topic, maybe. But then there's not much else to say about the original topic. Besides, you posted here, so the thread's popularity is just as much your fault as it is mine. ^^
Simple as it was, I rather liked Goodbye on the first album. It seemed to reflect their newer style of music from most of the second and third albums on... you know, stuck out from the other tracks. Personally I didn't care for the original sound all that much. Too metal-ish.

Re: Celestial Dream
I don't mean to nit pick but Stratovarius is a metal band, of course it's supposed to sound metal-ish.
It's not like their some kind of new age folk band.
As far as the song goes I go with more how a song makes me feel, I don't care whether it's a really riffy type or a ballad, if it makes me go through a spectrum of emotions I'll like it.

Re: Celestial Dream
I won't debate that there are elements of other genre's, however my point is that Stratovarius has always been a metal band, people should expect a metal-ish sound.

Re: Celestial Dream
Stratovarius is whatever the listener makes it out to be. I don't think of Stratovarius as metal, personally - and there's nothing wrong with that. Because there are no definitive genre boundaries: The very definition of a genre is how it sounds to you, the listener, and to be honest, the whole system is more trouble than it's worth at this point. So I'd rather not argue about it.
Re: Celestial Dream
Stratovarius has a lot of diversity in their music.

Re: Celestial Dream
is a cover of Iron Maiden about which they are speaking, at least does not even look like the song of Nightwish jajaja, why nobody has this cover? It is very easy to find on the Internet or "Ares"Tero-75 wrote:Phantom Of The Opera was only (well) covered by Nightwish. I'd upload it in order to clear things up, but I've already deleted it, I'm afraid.
Re: Celestial Dream
What would make the lyrics of a street performer any less of a concept anyways? I think some messages are rather core to the human spirit and that they are old ideas because they are potentiality basic principals that can guide people. Some of this might be execution of the idea but it is the listeners choices as to how much they interact with the lyrics and therefore how much of a impact they get from them. I don't think anything will move someone all by itself without cooperation from the listener.
Re: Celestial Dream
It also has to do with the listener themselves as well, sometimes people don't like ballads as they are too painful to listen to or they consider them to be "too sentimental"

Re: Celestial Dream
Lol, difficult spiritual path. If that's what you're going to call it. ;P
As I've said, the lyrics just feel rather dull and stereotypical to me... if you'll excuse the directism, almost hippie-ish. That's what the lyrics make me think of when I'm listening to the chorus. The verses' lyrics aren't bad, but a bit straightforward for my taste. I have a difficult time thinking of any 'advanced' Strato lyrics off the top of my head, though, since most of their songs are pretty direct in their meaning. You can pick it up after one runthrough without much trouble.

Each of us gets something different, some like it, some hate it and some really do not care whatsoever.
I guess in the end what matters is how the song effects you.

Re: Celestial Dream
It’s one thing to lightly breeze over something without thinking about it; it’s another to think about meaning, connections, applications, and executions. I think everything can be summed up in simple messages, yet the execution is something that does not come as easy.

Re: Celestial Dream
And the execution of the song is fantastic. I just think the lyrics are more simplistic than the rest of the song: I find more meaning in the song itself (the execution) than I do the composition of the lyrics. At least in the case of Celestial Dream.
