Who is your favorite songwriter NOW in Stratovarius?
I think this poll is good for now. What do you think??
I think Jens Johansson, but Lauri Porra tight second!

Jens Johansson as his songs come very close to the old Stratovarius songs. Although I think Polaris had a bit too much keyboard and too little guitars.

All
All of them!!
There's no only one, now they all rock !!!!!! The most important thing to say is... Viva la Democracy!!
This is a real band!! Everyone can share ideas and compose, that's great
Happy about that!
P.S. I hope the rest of the albums of stratovarius will be like this one, where we can find songs composed by all the members

They are all great. But Higher We Go ranks Kotipelto quite high and on the other hand Forever is Today from Lauri is also one of the best.

I don't really like it if there is too much keyboard. In the old albums they always had the right mixture of Keyboards and Guitars but this is a bit of keyboard overkill for me.palarmux wrote:I just love if there is much keyboard But that is right, there is bit low amount of quitarRagehead91 wrote:Although I think Polaris had a bit too much keyboard and too little guitars.

theres this band called Artension, if anyones heard them. But in my opinion that band is way too keyboard oriented. They would be more awesome if there was more guitars with their sound. My opinion anyway. Some of their songs are like Strato's. I recommend their very first album.

Re: Who is your favorite songwriter NOW in Stratovarius?
but on the subject of Strato, I chose Jens , closest you will get to the original Stratovarius really
Re: Who is your favorite songwriter NOW in Stratovarius?
This is a very very good poll!
Well, I like the keyboard thing a lot in this album. And I'm sure in the next albums we are gonna have more balance between keyboards / guitar. Do not forget that Polaris is the first album with Matias on guitars and he need some time to get used to. You know, it was all really fast.
Regarding the poll...difficult.
I think the only composer that I can say is similar to Tolkki, is Jens. You know, Jens knows a lot how to make a Stratovarius song and is very emotional and deep too while writing songs.
But, well...see Lauri...Forever is today for example is a Stratovarius song, and you can hear that clearly. His work in the album is really fantastic.
Matias (and Jens a bit too) adds the prog part to the band right now. About Kotipelto, we knew how Kotipelto can manage a song, of course he can do it ok, but it is more simple and direct with the songs. Of course he can compose, but it's different and for me is the "weakest" member regarding compositions.
So, I choose Jens.

Re: Who is your favorite songwriter NOW in Stratovarius?
I've never listened to their music but I know them because Mike Terrana plays with the band. I've only listened to the "Angel's of Eden" Project of their keyboard player. And that was rather decent.stratodan1990 wrote:theres this band called Artension, if anyones heard them. But in my opinion that band is way too keyboard oriented. Timo Kotipelto.
"Somehow Precious" and "Higher We Go" for example are astounding... The first mentioned has such a grande melancholy to it, and the other one is like wind!

Re: Who is your favorite songwriter NOW in Stratovarius?
Jens because of King of Nothing.
Regarding the increased amount of keyboard on the album, I approve. It's nice to hear something other than the choir/harpsichord/JJ lead on a Stratovarius album.
Also, as a keyboardist myself, I approve of the increased presence of keyboard parts. More for me to try and emulate.

Re: Who is your favorite songwriter NOW in Stratovarius?
I voted for Lauri Porra. Even though I think it was hard to chose just one.
I also think it's a little too much keyboard, and too little guitar. Would have loved some more guitar solos etc.
But because of Forever is Today and Emancipation parts I have to say Lauri is my favorite

My vote goes to Lauri Porra, I love Emancipation suite, both parts, Forever is Today, Falling Star and When Mountains Fall.
Re: Who is your favorite songwriter NOW in Stratovarius?
That's true! I think the best mixture of Guitar/Keyboard was on Infinite. I hope they will make the next album like that.Ragehead91 wrote:I don't really like it if there is too much keyboard. Re: Who is your favorite songwriter NOW in Stratovarius?
uhmmm hard question... what can I say? I loved all the songs.
One thing that I found interesting about Lauri is that his songs (except Falling Star) sound A LOT like Tolkki in his best times: 4thD-Destiny. (at least to me).
Jens, well... I think that the 2 best song he have ever written for Stratovarius are in this Album: Winter Skies and my favorite song of the album, King of Nothing. (Though, Blind is also cool!)
About Matias.. I F**** LOVED Deep Unknown, when I listened to this song for the first time I was sooooo happy beacuse, for me, it really marked the return of Stratovarius.
And to finish, about Koti/Matias team: I think that those 2 songs came mainly from Kotipelto, and Matias did the arrangements and wrote those cool solos. I think that both songs are very good.
So, my conclusion... ALL OF THEM ARE GREAT, and I will have to save my vote, guys. Sorry!

Re: Who is your favorite songwriter NOW in Stratovarius?
That's a tough call. Overall, Lauri really impressed me with all his songs, but Jens' "King of Nothing" is one of my favorites of the album. Yet, I had to vote for Timo because he is credited with the most of my top songs with "Deep Unknown" "Higher We Go" and "Somehow Precious." Yet, shouldn't Matias get credit for those too? Hard to have one answer for this poll.
Let's Rage!
Re: Who is your favorite songwriter NOW in Stratovarius?
Not a fan of Higher We Go, it's just too happy/perky. I went with Lauri for Emancipation Pt. II and Forever is Today.

Re: Who is your favorite songwriter NOW in Stratovarius?
..I know most or all of the old instumental solo songs were written by Tolkki, but personally, i'd love to hear a new type of 'Strato' instrumental, you know, like Stratofortress or Stratosphere, or the self titled song Stratovarius, of that style, on one of their future albums. Strato____ (something)

Hard to choose... Maybe Lauri for Forever is today, but the rest of the band is very very close to him.

+1 for that song. That song and Emancipation 1 are the best two songs written by him (in my opinion)Bublix wrote:Hard to choose... Maybe Lauri for Forever is today, but the rest of the band is very very close to him.
