Something for Transformers fans

Post by hiro23 » Sun Jun 28, 2009 10:12 pm

I like thousands of others grew up on transformers and love it, I saw a montage of them the other night and started feeling nostalgic.

So I decided to look up a few video's as sort of a tribute to us, the transformers fanbase.

I don't listen to what critics say about shows or movies, if I listened to guys like Ebert or most of the critics on thatguywiththeglasses.com I wouldn't be watching half of the stuff that I do.

I have no problem with their reviews however they are all just based on their opinions.

I've been a transformers fan for years, way before the current hype started happening. I just wanted to get fans like myself a little nostalgic again.

I have to say that Ebert and several other critics I consider trustworthy have saved me loads of money. I mean, often I'm kind of sceptic about going to see a movie and if everyone says the movie blows, I tend to stay home and watch some other movie on DVD. Then after about 6 months some friend of mine has that movie on DVD, I watch it and am happy about those 20€ (ticket, popcorn, gas, random expenses...) that Ebert just saved me. ;) It's very rare that I end up thinking, "hey, all those guys were wrong, this is a good movie." I've thought of three explanations for this:
1. I have excellent taste
2. I'm a mindless sheep and on subconcious level I get all my opinions from critics without even realising it.
3. My mind is just plugged the same way as that of an average movie-critic's and therefore I enjoy same things in a movie.

...

Did that make any sense at all?

And about thatguywiththeglasses.com, I only watch those videos to get good laughs. Just watched the review of The Wizard by Nostalgia Critic and almost pissed my self laughing.

Mormegil:it's okay if you like to listen to critics, that's perfectly fine and it's a choice that works for you.
However with me there a plenty of movies and shows I thought were great and many critics thought were not that good. Transformers is something I grew up with and have loved for years, I used to watch that show religiously as a kid and I love the newer movies.

I realize this opinion is not shared by everyone, however that's why I've named this topic Something for Transformers fans.

I've watched every episode of AVGN, even though I've never even heard of most of the games he reviews. Those guys are just hilarious.

@hiro23: Only matter of finding critics you can trust. Not blindly of course, that would be just ignorant. ;)

My thing for movies is that if it is something that I think will work better on a big screen I will go. With a movie like transformers,, batman, spiderman, iron man, I think it needs the big screen. With a movie like 12 angry men, casablanca, get on the bus, I can watch that on a TV since I can still catch all the body language.

I think we make our own experiences in life and its our choice and responsibility to make what we want to out of what we experience. I would say a lot of what I like in a movie is the way that I interact with it and use my imagination to play around with it.

I hate the first new Transformers movie. I want to see Robots beating the shit out of each other and not a in my opinion anoying and boring Shia LaBeouf trying to get laid! Cut that shit out! What is so great about Shia anyway? That guy just makes me irate. Both in Transformers I and Indiana Jones.

And to Michael Bay
YOU CAN'T DIRECT A MOVIE! TONS OF EXPLOSIONS AND CGI SHIT FLYING AT US DOES NOT MAKE THE MOVIE GOOD!

Icecab:I agree with you, we all make our own experiences.

Ragehead:And that is also perfectly fine, you don't have to like it and no one is here to force you, as I said I merely made this thread in homage to those of us who like the transformers franchise.

That's why you put Megan Fox in between every few explosions. :P You've got to admit, Michael Bay is the best at what he does: blowing shit up.

But explosions don't make up for a boring plot.

I thought the plot was just the same as it was in the cartoon, simple yet good, it was something that I enjoyed as a kid and still enjoy as an adult.

If liking simple plots makes me a horrible movie goer then I guess I'm 100% guilty

The plot would've been okay if they just would cut all that bullshit with Shia out. That guy annoys me so much.

They can't really help it if a few people don't like others. They kind of plan it that way since it gets people to talk about the film and makes them more money. It’s a good thing for a movie to have haters. I can't really think of a movie that did badly in the box office that has people passionate about trashing it in a large scale.

Then get a new director. JUST GET SHIA LABOUF OUT OF THE GODAMN MOVIES AND MOVE THE FOCUS TO THE ROBOTS! I DON'T CARE ABOUT SHIA LABOUF OR THAT GIRL THAT IS ONLY IN THERE BECAUSE OF HER ASS! I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE HUMAN CHARACTERS! THEY ANNOYED ME IN THE ORIGINAL CARTOON AND THEY STILL ANNOY ME NOW! I WANT TO SEE THE ROBOTS!

This set of three will finish with this cast and then they can hand the series over to others like they do it batman. This movie is working in the box office; it would be silly to change what is not broken in the box office. It’s not everyday that movies make hundreds of millions of dollars

Then at least change the cast. I dunno what it is about Shia Labouf that makes me so angry, but every time I see him on the screen I just want to smack him into the face.

And again, just because it works at the box office doesn't mean the film is good. It is horrible.

sam is the major character and plot divice of the movie. i think in the least there will be one more with this director and cast and then it can be passed on to other actors and directors.

the best thing about movies is that noone forces you to watch. It's so weird how people say they hate bay yet paid for a ticket as if they did not already know what kinds of things bay likes to do with movies.

Anyways this is more a homage to the cartoon rather then the movie, I mean I like the movie however this is more of a nostalgic thread.

Then watch the movies. Especially the 2nd one. According to TheSpoonyOne she only is in the 2nd movie to show her ass in sexy poses.

She is a critical figure in both movies. Her characters interaction with Sam is critical to the success of Sam and the autobots and is key to triggering events in the movie that move the plotline along.
