Re: beer in Finland
I do not know about Finnish beer, but German beer is great! I buy it at ALDI food stores here in USA. I wish Finland beer would export to USA, I would try it fer sure!
Re: beer in Finland
I can't remember any of the beer I had in Finland but it was all good! One beginning with K was nice.

Re: beer in Finland
Lots of them, and they are the most reasonably priced stores around! The problem is the nearest one is 30 miles away so I cannot go too often. But when I do, I stock up! Milk is only $1.49 a gallon! Eggs only 79 cents a dozen, and ALDI has the best tasting freshest bread at .69 cents a loaf! They are a great food store!rikkertje wrote:Is there seriously ALDI in USA?browneyedgirl wrote:I do not know about Finnish beer, but German beer is great! I buy it at ALDI food stores here in USA. The basic lagers you can get from supermarkets are all... perhaps not bad, but boring to say the least.
If you're coming from Czech Republic, don't expect anything mindblowing.

Karjala? The other one with a K - Koff - is pretty tasteless.NeonVomit wrote:I can't remember any of the beer I had in Finland but it was all good! One beginning with K was nice.
EDIT: Shit. There is a third one, Karhu. Maybe the best of the three.
Re: beer in Finland
There's ALDI in UK and Cyprus as well. They're like cockroaches I do my shopping from Lidl, though. Closer to my place.rikkertje wrote:Is there seriously ALDI in USA?browneyedgirl wrote:I do not know about Finnish beer, but German beer is great! I buy it at ALDI food stores here in USA. Yeah, Karhu's good! And Sandels also. It's just pretty expensive. A pint of beer costs around 5euros at most places here. Just now some places have started lowering their prices.Carcass wrote:Karjala? Re: beer in Finland
Sandels is decent, but to get the good stuff you really need to visit Alko. The thing about Finland is that the state has monopoly on drinks that contain more alcohol than 4,7%. If you want stronger stuff you need to visit a Alko.
Many quality beers pass that limit.

Re: beer in Finland
Well most Finns like these below vol. 4,7 beers in any rate. There's a wide range in tastes as far as I know, some even like those more mild beers like Koff and Lapin Kulta. Karhu is one of these "stronger" basic ones, although still not that strong.
As for me, I actually tend to like more of that dishwater side than the trve manly beer side myself. Of these "normal" Finnish beers, I think Koff, Sandels and Olvi are the best ones at the moment. At least here where I live Olvi is pretty cheap in stores compared to others, somewhere under 90 cents a 0,33L bottle.
I make it clear I only have my own taste, no actual information or knowledge about beers. I basically never go to Alko and taste those stronger ones or anything...

Re: beer in Finland
I understand. The alcohol percentage is not the most important factor for me. I usually only buy those market beers such as Karhu and Sandels. I like them the most. And of course dark lagers such as Velkopopovicky Kozel. But they're not Finnish I myself don't like Olvi too much. I actually can't stand the taste But it's just my opinion. Many of my friends like it
I have nice memories from last summer, from my friend's summer cottage. Had a good sauna evening with a few Sandels beers after the sauna! A wonderful sunset and a warm weather. What more can you hope for! Well a lot but that's not the point haha

I undersand you well! For me it depends. In wintertime I like dark lagers better but in the summer it's nice to drink something pale since at least I find it more refreshingIntiaani wrote:Which for me is easily the best beer in the world.Keyssion wrote:And of course dark lagers such as Velkopopovicky Kozel.
Re: beer in Finland
one of my favorite is Lapin Kulta...
though I've just read it's "mild"? I haven't seen any other Finnish beers here in my country...

Re: beer in Finland
In Finland I was drinking mostly Lapin Kulta, then Koff, Karhu and Karjala. Even if mild, Lapin Kulta is the one I liked the most
