FIFA World Cup 2010 thread

Post by NeonVomit » Fri Dec 04, 2009 8:14 pm

If you don't like football, stay out of here. It is going to get ugly.

Everything in here. Predictions, gossip, rumours, post-match analysis, (when it rolls around) mockery of ridiculous refereeing decisions, hilarious Maradona quotes, you name it.

Here are the groups!

Group A: South Africa, Mexico, Uruguay, France

Group B: Argentina, Nigeria, South Korea, Greece

Group C: England, United States, Algeria, Slovenia

Group D: Germany, Australia, Serbia, Ghana

Group E: Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, Cameroon

Group F: Italy, Paraguay, New Zealand, Slovakia

Group G: Brazil, North Korea, Ivory Coast, Portugal

Group H: Spain, Switzerland, Honduras, Chile

Italy got an easy ride. I have a feeling they'll slide themselves into the quarters at least.

Germany has a relatively easy time as well.

Netherlands have a tough job.

Brazil will need to keep sharp, Ivory Coast provide a major threat I think.

Greece is doomed.

Spain will be strong.

I am as pissed off about this World Cup as 90% of Argentinians. There is no serious project in Argentina; we DO NOT want to have fucking Maradona as coach!! He's a complete ignorant when it comes to coaching a team. He doesn't know anything about tactics, positions, etc. Oh and the players need to get to know each other in order to function properly as a team, something that is difficult to achieve when the coach creates a different team every fucking weekend. Maradona has used approx. 80 players in one year (seriously!). How the fuck can they ever work as a team?!?
Argentina's participation will probably end up being a scandal. I can't get myself to cheer for the team with the horrible coaching staff we have. I honestly don't care much if Korea, Nigeria, and Greece win their games against Maradona's abomination. This time around, no one in Argentina is expecting the team to go very far... Which is a shame, because we do have some good players (Messi, Agüero, Tévez, Carrizo, Mascherano). I'm not even sure the team will make it to the second round...

There, I needed to vent.

I still can't believe France's luck for qualifying. Damn FIFA and its "referee decisions".

...I was going to say something about Maradona but felt it best that someone from Argentina say it first :D

With the amount of talent the team has, it should be a walk in the park. Now a real coach is needed.

Alright! Inaugural game Mexico vs South Africa, should be a good one. I don't think we should have a problem qualifying to the next round, considering Uruguay and France "almost" didn't make it to the World Cup in the fist place, but our team is so unpredictable. I mean, there is talent but they always end up panicing in the important games, but who knows, maybe this time it will be different.

Maradona has had lots of problems with drugs, he was cleverer when young than nowadays.
I don't care about Argentina, I'd care if there would be a coach like Bielsa, Pekerman, Pasarella, which would eventually mean good playing, so right now, for me Argentina, is like another common team, unless they play well.

Yeah, but you are forgetting something: Uruguay and France barely made it, but Uruguay had to qualify playing against teams like Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Bielsa's surprising Chile, while France had to play against Serbia, Austria, Romania, and Ireland. Mexico's toughest rival, on the other hand, was the U.S. Apart from the U.S., they had to qualify against teams like Trinidad, Jamaica, Canada, Honduras, Belize, El Salvador, etc. In all fairness, finishing second in the CONCACAF is no harder than finishing fifth in the CONMEBOL...
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to belittle Mexico, but just to be fair, you have to take those things into account.

I think England have a good chance of winning this year, we only lost 1 game and drew one game during the qualigying rounds which I think is pretty damn good compared to most of the other outcomes for the other teams.

I have a feeling they'll do good, there's semi-decent depth to the squad and they've actually started working together.

I still don't think they can match Spain or Brazil though.
