a question for Jens Johansson

Here musicians can talk to each other about making music etc. Of course if you are not a musician you are still welcomed to this board, but the topics should somehow be about making music.

a question for Jens Johansson

Post by kikotr88 » Tue May 18, 2010 5:40 pm

hello friends, i`m here now because i have a big big problem...the pitch bend from my synth (DX7s) is dead.
i can not move it any more. i need to change the potentiometer (10k with tap) for another but i cant find it.

maybe you know where can i find one or if can i put another pot with similar characteristics.

tack tack tack.

greetings from chile.

i saw Jens that you made another kind of pitch in your dx7...i dont know if that`s an option.

Maybe you should go back to your bus. It would be more peaceful there.

Even better, it's one that they push down the hill. Which is ok, in Chile they've no shortage of steep slopes.

Getting uphill is the tricky part.

I have 2 pots from my Frankensteined guitar....the exact ohm you need is 10k? And if you use a higher ohm, will it just draw the power it needs and not overload it? (they are a lot higher than 10k)
I used to work at an electronics store, and that's how it went I THINK...but anyway. I'm thinking there is a spring device in there too. Maybe the spring or springs are worn out. Or maybe, there is some sort of corrosion..It could be a lot of different little things. Take a picture of it all apart maybe?

A lot of times with old electronics it's easier to buy a whole new one instead of fixing it if it's on it's last leg. But, the keyboard may have a special place in your collection..or else you don't have a replacement to play in the mean time or the money.
It might just be a little fix that all it needs too.
Try out some ideas and if it blows up, you know that it doesn't work!!!!!
Better than just having it sit around right?

well, the picture is quite blurry and I don't know that much about electronics, however, nothing looks externally wrong with it. Do you live near a Radio Shack or a similar electronics store? Sometimes places like that can take the individual part and either A. find another one or B. repair it. Musician stores are usually useless, but electronic places can be useful.

Search around online stores as well.

Radioshack stores are HELL. That's where I worked. Chile is better off without them. Starbucks?? Gawd damn hippies.

If none of the electronics stores can help you, the best thing to do is google.
They are cheap by the way.

These ones on Ebay don't have 4 contacts...hm??

Have you tried keyboard forums? DX7 owners manual? Other musician forums? One of those might work

ok, thanx dude, i`m investigating about those pots, but my question is:

what`s the diference between my potentiometer with four terminals and those that you send me ( with three terminals )

I'm thinking the 4 terminals has to be connected to 4 parts on the circuit board. One is the ground wire, 3 are power maybe?

And the 3 terminal one- you can use the 3 terminals for power and solder a wire to the metal on the back of the pot to ground it.
