Do we want to make this completely irrelevant relativism?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, blah, blah...

Experiencing art is a very subjective thing, I dare you to find objective criteria for good art.

we can go with there is no better art, but there is better craftmanship and skill and if we tie that into being a artist that can make the difference. we can go with normal and abnormal or destructive and contructive. we can go with cross cultural samples for funtions and find how different groups react to the same stimula as a whole. we can look at things like which music has given more people a deeper degree of emotion for a greater verity of funtions or at each funtion one by one.

if cannible corpse played mozart, id say that would likely have a greater effect on people than if cannible corpse played cannible corpse and we can test that.

if by greater effect, you mean angry mobs, then yes.

And you thought In Flames fans were generally pissed off.

Ö10 simply stated,

When she read what Neon wrote,

That she became elated,

To know, may I A10 quote?

Makes her feel normal, through and trough,

Because Neon seems to lack in brain,

And in comparison to him,

She is relatively sane,

I hope this song has helped you,

To understand her post,

Your issues imperceptible,

With A10 as your host.

My meth dealer blew himself up yesterday while he was trying to whip up another batch, so I'm currently a bit short.

Thanks! Basically, if you hit 'play' on all 4 videos at the same time you'll have a good idea of what the inside of my head sounds like.

Seriously. Try it.

To me classical music and metal are not in the same league as I react to them in a completely different way. So it's hard to compare them. No need to go all "hurr durr classical is obviously better herp derp" either.

I think that in the future we'll recognize the current and recent past generations of musicians as great composers on their own as well, the same we recognize the virtuosi today.

Of course I'm not talking Lady Gaga, 50 Cent or Rihanna here, neither I'm assuming only metal bands will be recognized as great contributors to music. In fact, I believe that every single serious music genre should have virtuoso exponents.

Technical skill can help, but it's not a prerequisite for making good art. Would you consider Kurt Cobain and John Lennon less artistic than John Petrucci? Or the self-taught Frida Kahlo's naivistic paintings lesser art than Jan van Eyck's exquisite Arnolfini Portrait?

So many factors go into the reception of art that ok, fine to say there nothing more artistic than another, and the value of art is not a one size fits all reaction and the same piece can have very different effects of different people. I can put it in general terms in a context of one persons art was used to produce positive energy and another’s work was used to create negative energy so the one that created positive is more valuable to me. Then we have violence to create a perceived positive vs. nonviolence to create a perceived positive and for me the nonviolence to create a perceived positive is more valuable. It’s important for a society to show the ugly and violent without promoting it but there really is no control over reception.

We could make this “whose music would have more value for someone who values X" or go value piece by piece. I’ll have to look into it, but I’m not sure how many societies or what percentage of people get polar reactions from listening to classical vs. metal, since studies here have shown classical promoting learning and metal demoting it, but maybe there are those or societies have a whole different reaction to it. it’s a interesting question for me of how much of art reaction is nature and how much is nurture and how have different societies and people evolved to react to art.
