Live in Three dimension (Or, a general topic on bootlegs)

Post by Rebel » Sat Jul 24, 2010 4:10 am

Just found this bootleg from about 1995. It features two concerts from Japan when Timo Kotipelto had just joined the band.
Tracklist for both nights looks to be the same, features songs from the first 4 records, and Tolkki's classical variations and themes
Night 1:
Against the Wind
Distant Skies
Galaxies
Future Shock
Abyss
We are the Future
Keyboard solo (Keep in mind, this is an Antti Ikonen keyboard solo, not a Jens Johansson keyboard solo)
Lead Us Into the Light - Winter
Lord of the Wasteland
Dreamspace
Guitar Solo - Northern Lights - The Lord of the Rings - Stratovarius - Greensleeves
Out of the Shadows
Twilight Symphony
We Hold the Key
Chasing Shadows
Fire Dance Suite
Hold Onto Your Dreams
The Hands of Time

Night 2:

Against the Wind
Distant Skies
Galaxies
4th Reich
We are the Future
Keyboard solo
Lead Us Into the Light - Winter
Guitar Solo - Northern Lights - The Lord of the Rings - Stratovarius - Greensleeves
Dreamspace
Out of the Shadows
Twilight Symphony
We Hold the Key
Chasing Shadows
Fire Dance Suite
Hold Onto Your Dreams

Some notes:

This is an incredibly cool bootleg, the shows are pretty much the same, with some minor order differences, the first night they play Abyss, the second night they play 4th Reich, and the order the instrumental medley and Dreamspace is swapped for the second night.

Even more shocking than the fact that many tracks from classical variations and themes are included in the set, is that Tolkki actually sings a duet with Kotipelto on Fire Dance Suite. I know the forum had been really heavy up to get some live material of Kotipelto singing this. So it's out there. I won't post the link yet, but depending on the reaction of the band (Jens) and the general forum, I might turn this into a stratovarius bootleg topic and or upload a torrent with all my bootlegs.

It will be cool to hear those! :) I've always wanted to hear Antti... I don't think some of this minor rare-music sharing is harmful to anyone at this point of the band's popularity

Well, what I plan on doing, is uploaded quite a bit more bootlegs than just live in three dimensions, I want to get kind of a spread of bootlegs. stuff from all their tours, and as many individual live tracks as I can. I can totally understand if the band doesn't want me to spread the polaris bootlegs, but I'm not sure how they feel about self titled, so before I go anywhere, I'd kind of like to hear from someone in the band about it, or maybe just a general forum consensus.

Give me a few shots of JorgiMeister and a bootlegged strato video and I'm a happy man. (just kidding) I don't know how you can post a bootlegged video on a bands official forum and feel like it might be alright with the band.
Well, nevermind I don't have any idea what I'm saying because there are tons on youtube, this isn't 1997 anymore right?

Yeah, but there's a touch of a difference between skipping around a few videos in varying quality from different shows, and listened to an entire show from start to ... finnish. (Don't kill me)

Also, you must consider stratoforum is probably the loosest moderated official band forum in existence (Barring bands too small to bother with actual moderation, Stratoforum is an intentional wild west)

I've got the MP3 versions of "Fuckin' P.A." bootleg from a 1996 Japan gig (Tolkki has an awesome tone!) and "Visions Over Rio". Downloaded them from somewhere some time ago. I also have "Visions of Destiny" as an actual CD and Live in the Three Dimensions as MP3.

I remember that this was posted in RR forum by Season of Change. It is a cool compilation.

It's something really unsual, at least for me, to listen to a complete different Stratovarius live; it feels like the energy is different and the songs have that feeling that makes you feel cool. I have to admit it's a great bootleg :)

Nice. I hadn't listened to a live album in a while, I really enjoyed these. It was great to hear the live versions of some CVAT songs. And man, what a difference it is to have Koti sing those oldschool songs, they sound fantastic! And TT is really sharp.

I love the antti solo from the first cd, you can turn that into a song very easily..a portishead song, but still.

I really wish live versions existed of Tolkki singing the songs from Dreamspace though, on those songs, I just prefer Tolkki's style of singing out of the side of his mouth

I have also acoustic bootleg from Buenos Aires '99 where they played Before the Winter and Coming Home for example. It's a pity that quality is low. But show is really interesting I think.

I'm digging Episode in the East. It's funny that even up through Episode, they were closing with Hands of Time. The guitar tone is really bad though through the recording, it's all very thin and wirey, the recording doesn't catch any of the bite in the guitar.

This also might be the first recorded performance of Legions.
