Seven Sinners setlist topic

Post by Rebel » Tue Nov 02, 2010 8:45 am

Because the forum is in dire need of another setlist topic, right? RIGHT?

This isn't so much the "Dream setlist" topic, more of, given 70 minutes at most (I kept mine to about 65), what setlist would work the best on the seven sinners tour. Given that the band is the special guests, and not necessarily playing to hardcore fans, or people who have heard the newer albums.

What setlist would you use to promote the reborn Stratovarius on the Seven Sinners tour? Here's mine

Opener:
King of Nothing/Jens Keyboard(Harpsichord solo)/Blind

I've been at university this fall, which has kept me out of my car a lot, but on my appx. 45 minute drives home when I need to restock on supplies, Polaris has been in my car on repeat for all of them. Given the quality of the King of Nothing performance on Polaris live, I think, if the jack-boot marching were used as intro music, (Looped probably, because they would need more time), King of Nothing would be a perfect intro, and it flows very nicely into Blind. I think in the live environment, the best way to handle this would be a regular keyboard solo outtro, then switch the tone to harpsichord, solo around on that for a bit, and intro Blind. Since I first heard Polaris, I thought to myself that Blind would be an absolutely KILLER song live, and I think it would really drive home a point about Stratovarius being "Back".
Darkest Hours
Having not heard this song outside the 30 second sample, I don't really know much about this song other than if it's the lead single, it's probably in the vein of a HHAL type song, hopefully it's more like HHAL and less like Eagleheart, but I think it's something the band will want to play early in the show.
Fight!!!
One of the things I set out to do with this setlist was in some way highlight all of the post 2000 albums. (So basically, Elements I, II, Self titled, and Polaris). A lot of bands past their "Glory days" have been doing this, and I think Strato could do it pretty well. Fight is probably the most serviceable power metal track on self titled, maybe Jorg could even work the double bass back in. Still, I'm a fan of putting heavy/fast songs in the start of the set (As well as the middle, end, and encore).
Hunting High and Low
Speed of Light
These two, along with Black Diamond later in the set, are both the obligatory crowd-pleasers. The classic songs everyone is familiar with, but are also undeniably awesome.
Deep Unknown
I always felt that the Polaris tour didn't do nearly enough to focus on Polaris, which I thought was an important aspect of reinventing the bands image, I realize that Deep Unknown was played at most (All?) shows, but it sounds great live, and the band needs to play as much new material as it can get away with, and it can certainly get away with Deep Unknown.
I walk to my own Song
The safest pick from Elements II, I think even rikkerjte could agree that Timo could probably sing this would without incident. It's catchy, great intro, I think it would probably go over very well.
Forever is Today
Like Deep Unknown, this one was played on the Polaris tour, but unlike Deep Unknown, it doesn't sound just good, it's fucking fantastic live. One of the best live numbers the band has ever wrote. Especially the intro. I tried to space it out a bit from Blind though.
Infernal Maze
Again, I have no idea with this song. It's possible that Heavenly Divine is one of those 50 second interludes that Helloween seems to love so dearly, and Infernal Maze is the live opener stratovarius fans have been waiting for, but I'm just guessing with this one, since I put Darkest Hours early, I'll put this one late.
Soul of a Vagabond I almost put this as the opener, because it works so well as an opener. Of all the songs off elements I, I'd like to hear this the most live. The versions I've seen on youtube have been excellent, and like I said, all the post-2000 albums are represented in this set.
Second Sight
This is a real curveball, maybe they only play it on the Japan dates, but I think this is a great song that would go well with the "NEW STRATOVARIUS IS FUCKING AWESOME" theme.
Black Diamond
well....
duh

--
Second Sight could also be swapped for any of the 4-5 minute songs off Destiny. Playing with Fire, SOS, No Turning Back, and Rebel would all suffice.
===
Songs per album.
Polaris: 6
Elysium: 2
Elements I/Elements II/Self Titled/Infinite/Visions/Episode: 1

What say the rest of the forum though, what's the best way to promote the band on this tour?

I don't think there will be huge setlist changes or surprises for the 7 Sinners tour because their playing time is limited to one hour, but i really hope there will be more changes when the actual Elysium tour starts.

almost had a similar idea... future world with strato and helloween at the end of the show...

i would prefer destiny as opener, much from visions, little bit from polaris, at least one new song. well, and the "traditionals"...

Edit: United would be a great choice!

I think they should basically play songs from the new album...

Then throw in:

Paradise
Night Time Eclipse
We Hold the Key
Wings of Tomorrow
Glory of the World
Gypsy in Me
No Turning back
Deep Unknown

Basically, strong songs that haven't been played to death recently.

Wings of Tomorrow
I'd love to see Dreamspace songs live too but i think that the guys don't play songs from the first three albums. Might be wrong though.

Dunno about setlist (yeah I know, this isnt a dream setlist topic, but it's the only thing I came out with) but here are the non-classic songs I definitly need:

Coming Home, I need it!!!!!!!
Paradise
Tears of Ice
The Land of Ice and snow
United
Soul of a Vagabond
Twilight Symphony
Phoenix
Will my soul ever rest in peace
The abyss of your eyes.

I know that most of those songs will never be on the setlist, but damn, I'd love to hear them live!

Then, those classics:

Destiny,
HHAL,
Black Diamond,
Forever (noticing nobody talked about it, and yet it is a classic we can be quite sure to have!).
Eagleheart.

Edit:
Soul of a Vagabond: I almost put this as the opener, because it works so well as an opener. Of all the songs off elements I, I'd like to hear this the most live. The versions I've seen on youtube have been excellent, and like I said, all the post-2000 albums are represented in this set.
If only!!!!!!
Through the storms we've wandered
Many mountains we have climbed
But all the bad times are behind
The road is free - I'm coming home

I just hope someday they care to play all the songs from the early days, like Witch Hunt, Out of the shawdows, Future Shock, Shattered...at least ONE!!! they seem to have forgotten about all those songs for so many years...they play fourth dimension onwards songs all the time.
I just have one request, Shattered!

Hold On To Your Dream would be really cool too....

they should play 2h to get what we want to hear haahah:S

There are two songs in the whole universe that I cant die before having heard them live...

Coming Home, by Strato.
Elizabeth, by Kamelot.

So please, if Jens ever read this! Just please consider adding it to the setlist! =D

I remember last year in Toulouse when I asked the band in the afternoon for Paradise and that they played it for us the night!!!
Can I do something like that again for Coming Home? ^^
Through the storms we've wandered

Yes, I have Intermission Pt.2 wich has turned out to be a bootleg, some discussion here. The album has songs from different labels etc.

Hm...70 mins aren't enough, but I can try:
* Infinity (had the idea of this song as an opener for a LONG while, and I think it would be great...But maybe it won't be that appreciated)
* Deep Unknown (it HAS to be here, somewhere)
* King Of Nothing (who else agree :D?)
* Speed Of Light or Will The Sun Rise?(at this point, we need something fast!)
* Kiss Of Judas (still doubting here)
* Small Instrumental Medley (:headbang:)
* Hunting High And Low (I don't care what you say, I love it :D)
* Babylon and Emancipation Suite Pt.1 (this will be a great mix-up, as both sound very similar in some sort of way)
* Forever (I can't deny about this)
* Visions ending with Legions (hell yeah!)
* Some Random Song From Helloween (beign played by both Strato and Helloween)

I guess that would be all :)
