I want to make use of my home entertainment system with live concerts, in the following priority:
1. Great performance.
2. Great audio/visuals.
I.e., give me some tips on rock performances caught on video through history that I shouldn't be without, and it's a bonus if it sounds/looks good
(hint: I am one of those that think that Thin Lizzy's "Live and dangerous" is the best live album around, so if you have something in the veins of that it'll probably be ranked high...)

Well, Made in Japan is easily the best live album in history, but its audio only. If you're looking for a video performance, finding the video bootleg that this performance comes from is a good start http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgZSnAkQc4c
End of an Era is awesome visual, awesome sound but Tarja sings pretty horrible all through the concert.
One of the best live-dvd's i know is ofc Iron Maiden - Rock in Rio where both sound and videorecording is totally amazing.
Evergrey have a live dvd thats is really cool aswell, A night to remember, with really good sound and atmosphere. The visual recording is very well done on top of that. Although it kindof requires you to actually like the band.
In Flames - Used and abused...in Live we trust have 2 very different concerts, one from hammersmith odeon with the whole "big stage-production" and one from a small club in gothenburg where they play a very intense and intimate show. Another of my favourites.
Then of course, Queen - live at wembley stadium in 86. Not amazing picture since it's rather old but it's something every person interested in musicdvd's should own.
