I've been listening to a lot of Dr. Sin recently. A great band from Brazil! Not really power metal, though.

<object width="480" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-52N7J9vmj4?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-52N7J9vmj4?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="390"></embed></object>

Vanden Plas is another very cool progressive metal band...

<object width="480" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-I7rJgrUFAE?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-I7rJgrUFAE?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="390"></embed></object>

And lets not forget OSI. Maybe you've heard them already. A project between Kevin Moore (ex Dream Theater) and Jim Matheos (Fates Warning).

@mocobhc: Actually, I'm not a fan of this kinda stuff, but I was really in the mood for this, enjoyed it. Thanks. :>

@Stealth: Maybe some short description?

@robocop: Good one, thanks! Does he have more stuff like this?

@A10: Knew 'em except Dr. Sin. The song you posted by them was kinda good. Thanks for it, will check out some more from them. :>

One of the best metal albums ever. Awesome musicianship. People here are not going to like the vocals, but I think a lot of people could appreciate the music.

Badassest riff at 0:43.

@Hinata: That was.. definitely intersting.

@Stealth: You can't underestimate my laziness. Thanks anyway. :>>

@Carcass: The Rush song was quite enjoyable, not a fan of the vocals there. The second one was decent, but after all that praise, I'm really disappointed. So damn far from best metal album based on that. Thanks tho. : DD

@NeonVomit: Know it, like it. :>

Give Galneryus a chance. Japanese power metal band with neoclassical influences (mostly in their early stuff). Anyways, their last album "Resurrection" has been heavily awarded and if you ask me, I'd say it is one of the 3 best power metal albums of 2010. I find their style very interesting and fresh. Tolkki could take some notes from them. Syu, the guitarist is amazing and Yuhki, the keyboard player has been acclaimed even by Jens Johansson himself. Their vocalist, Masatoshi Ono is recognized as one of the best in Japan.

Destiny:

Versailles, from Japan is also great (IF YOU DON'T PAY MUCH ATTENTION TO THEIR OUTFITS :P) If u like grandiloquence, lot's of symphonic elements can be found here. The guitarists Teru and Hizaki are just fantastic as a duo and either of their two albums "Noble" or "Jubilee" are great. The vocalist has an original voice; does not reach extremely high notes but it's more than proper and has a nice falsetto.

Destiny-The Lovers:

Saratoga from Spain is another option. Excellent Heavy Metal with an OUTSTANDING singer. Their last album "Secretos y Revelaciones" is one of the best from 2009 for sure.

@Balu: Ok, samples (you lazy bum!) :P

Emir Hot's Sevdah Metal, with John West on vocals:

<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/eZiTW7jbfGQ?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/eZiTW7jbfGQ?fs ... &amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>

Area51, a great Japanese band. I love the singer:

<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3hXNr8gapaU?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3hXNr8gapaU?fs ... &amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>

Dragon Guardian, another Japanese band (they sing in Japanese, but whatever!) The first minute is actually the intro to the album's second song:

<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zE8bJyu7XU4?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zE8bJyu7XU4?fs ... &amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>

Forgotten Tales, power metal from Québec City:

<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8vQDloF-36o?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8vQDloF-36o?fs ... &amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>

Old Katra, with slightly more operatic vocals compared to what you hear on her second album. Incidentally, notice that she's hot:

<object width="560" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bAfOuwM-Hd4?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bAfOuwM-Hd4?fs ... &amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="349"></embed></object>

My favourite song from Katra's first album:

<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5HU-tp1X5WQ?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5HU-tp1X5WQ?fs ... &amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>

From Katra's new album. Apart from the change in her singing style, notice that she went through either a) puberty, or b) surgery, as her boobs got noticeably bigger (especially if you look at the picture at Encyclopaedia Metallum... just saying!):

<object width="560" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ywvP6YlPfbs?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ywvP6YlPfbs?fs ... &amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="349"></embed></object>

Legenda Aurea, nice Swiss band. This is with their former singer:

<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rAoVrF4suDs?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rAoVrF4suDs?fs ... &amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>

Legenda Aurea with their current singer:

<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/facoe9_Zqjc?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/facoe9_Zqjc?fs ... &amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>

Light Bringer. Interesting video from this Japanese band:

<object width="560" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ViFBcfpeVcM?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ViFBcfpeVcM?fs ... &amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="349"></embed></object>

More Light Bringer:

<object width="560" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vF-h0bqgEP8?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vF-h0bqgEP8?fs ... &amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="349"></embed></object>

Myrath, interesting Tunisian prog metal:

<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JDSej0JU7SQ?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JDSej0JU7SQ?fs ... &amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>

Pathfinder, great Polish band. This song has stuff from Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata:

<object width="560" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/82CJLo5F2hk?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/82CJLo5F2hk?fs ... &amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="349"></embed></object>

Signum Regis, Slovakian band with Göran Edman on vocals (I love Göran!!):

<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/d_kzu0exxD4?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/d_kzu0exxD4?fs ... &amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>

Steel Seal, Italian band with D.C. Cooper on vocals on their first album. I love this song:

<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/eNg06i2Wtj8?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/eNg06i2Wtj8?fs ... &amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>

More Steel Seal with D.C. Cooper:

<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/C1WWDyBcFyE?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/C1WWDyBcFyE?fs ... &amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>

Steel Seal with Thomas Vikström on vocals (second album):

<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/owawpxvrhl8?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/owawpxvrhl8?fs ... &amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>

I only listen to Dragonforce and Dragonland when I play Twister with other bad dudes.

Fun Fact: I was actually in a dorm room full of girls playing Twister with them one time and I couldn't even get laid.

I'm really digging the lyrics.

"Destiny is calling you, but you don't believe it
Keeper of the resurrection is standing alone
And surely, we'll unite once again with strong faith
Live to survive, live for my life
Just like... those stars!"

In fact, they inspired me so much that my inner lyricist awoke from its seemingly eternal slumber, and I chose to capitalize on this epiphany of creativity to contribute my own thought-provoking power-metal lyrics. After reading, please kindly let me know what you learned about your individual role in the space-time continuum, and if my words of wisdom infused you with some deep purpose and higher spiritual understanding.

Ahhhem!

Keep the faith,
Control your destiny,
Like the stars shining in the mountain,
Full of power and metal and steel,

No one will tell me what to do,
I'm not a afraid of you,
The power of the light shines above me,
And finally I am free
Just like.........those stars!!
