Jens in Finland

Post by ÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖÖ » Sun Jul 24, 2011 4:14 pm

Ja,ja Great! I was at the concert in Saimaa open Air In Lappeenranta close to the Russian border. A place most of you never had heard about.
But enough geography. The concert was great, as usual, the public was full of kosken and enthusiasm. The Gnat-gnats were lively and it didn't thunder just then.

But,but the most, the best, the overall big pleasure for me, was that I could meet and greet my idol, the one and only Jens, and I got the permission to ask him some questions for this exceptional Forum.

Ö. Nice to see you here in Finland again Jens. I would by the way like to know a little about your upbringing in Sweden. Were you born in Stockholm?
JJ. Yes and we moved to Malmoe in the south of Sweden 1974.

Ö. So the first musical experiences you got in Stockholm?
JJ.Yes, Anders and I had a pianoteacher that initiated us in the musicmysteries, Chopin, Bach and tedious scales.

Ö.And that continued when you moved to Malmoe?
JJ.Yes, more or less! Anders was "the less"! He put his hands in mud, before our lessons and the teacher complained over the ever dirtied klaviature. When that wasn't enough to let him free, he broke his fingers in a bikeaccident. The teacher was happy i think and Anders could start his drumming as he had wanted all the time.

Ö I have heard, that he was a bit naughty in those days.
JJ. Yea, some say so, but I think he was really great fun. A guy called Jonas Hansson had a band, Silver Mountain and Anders reputation suited him, so we soon played with him in our cellar, to the neighbours despair. Anders bought a bunch of old hospitalmattresses, as silencer, but there were soon flying and crawling creeps in them, so they had to go. It is said, that they one night became a garage for our bassplayers car.

Ö. Huh! How did he take that?
JJ.Oh he bought some mustardjars to darken the guitarists windows...

Ö.Haha! You had apparently a lot of fun in those days?
JJ Yes, but it was even more of that when we moved to LA and Yngwie.

Ö Tell me! tell me!
JJ.Ja, we lived together like some Swedecolony and there happened something every day. I can't tell you all. It would fill a book and some is too embarrassing now. But it was many laughs. Yngwie bought an exclusive waterbed, but it started to leak and there was soon growing grass under and then came the ANTS. They were soon all over the place and Anders got his insectphobia there and then. So we had to move. We moved a lot in those days and not always of free will...

To be continued...

More Jens!

Ö. I can understand that there are thousands of funny episodes, but was it really always fun?
JJ. No, of course not. We toured hard and it wasn't as lucrative as one could think. Some could be very upset over the division of the resources, but for Anders and me, that came from our mothers cellar with old moth-eaten mattrasses on the walls and grumbling neighbours, to hockey-halls with enthusiastic fans, all over the world, money wasn't the most important issue.

Ö. I think that Yngwies best records are those with you two. I love them and often listen to them. I think I bought some of his others too, but that they have disappeared somewhere. But tell me about that flight to Japan when Yngwie got his "Fucking fury". We have seen a funny pic of you in a Japanese dress.
JJ. Ja ough! I look silly-drunk and I was silly-drunk, so I don't remember so much, but my brother-and he never exaggerates-have told me that I was sleeping, when a woman threw a pot of water over me. My clothes were wet right through and I had to undress. Some kind stewardess put that gown on me, but you can see, that I kept my drink. Haha. I have no idea who took that silly pic, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was my always present and sober brother, that also made the famous tape with Yngwies fury. In Tokio waited a whole policesquadron, says Anders. I saw only about ten but who knows.

Ö. Some forumers think, that you look like a sweet girl, Jenny!
JJ Yes! I have seen that. Haha!

Ö I would have liked to talk with you for hours and I can't demand more of your time now, but I would very much like to hear your version of the toilet-blowing. Why did you do such an absurd thing?
JJ. It wasn't absurd there and then. It was an ugly mug, brownish and worn-out and it deserved to get peace with his maker. How do you best help an old mug on his last journey? With a big bang of course. It was also an experiment, but I had honestly never expected such an effect. I thought it would be a high watercascade and nothing more so I was rather chocked when it went from a brownish toa-stool to a heap of brown porcelain. But I paid for the fun and when we played there next time, the door to that special room was locked.

Ö. Thank you Jens, it was a pleasure to talk to you and I hope you soon come back to us. I would have liked to talk about Strato too, but maybe next time. One last question though! Will there be some Ten Seasons-like record more?
JJ. Honestly, I don't know...

Oh...my...GOD! I thought I was the only one that called him Jenny--that is so funny! Are you talking about the picture of him with the Hello Kitty dress? I read the interview where Anders was talking about that--apparently, Yngwie was threatening to kill somebody and Jens was throwing his own hissy fit by refusing to keep his clothes on...LOL

:) It is not the matter of being out of line. It is a matter of letting things go when the time is right, and not letting this chicken-situation consume every fiber of your being...
