I saw an interview recently on youtube where Jörg said that very sentence: Stratovarius is bigger than any individual has ever played in this band.
I want to know what you guys think about this.
I personnally think that Stratovarius is at it's best when the line-up remains intact for many years.

Easy A is not that easy

tolkki comes a close second
the band has not been bigger without tolkki in it.

It is often said that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. So, in Stratovarius case the connection is very strong because all the guys now seem to not only work together, but also each one does their own thing, and projects. This individuality brings to the band more strength as a whole.

I agree with Jorg, even tho Tolkki seems to think otherwise. Stratovarius is made by the whole bunch of musicians, not just one guy...
Wonderlust!

The whole is more than sum of parts. I tend to believe this holistic notion.
It works quite well when we speak about creations of human mind. Well, if we take and opposing reductionist position (which is basic in science) in this question then there is no such thing as Stratovarius at all. There are just parts - some random alike particles moving around - and there is nothing that could make the sum of those Stratovarius. But we all know perfectly well that Stratovarius exists. Therefore it must be something more than some of parts.
And this something more is not associated with Tolkki because it is not necessarily true. For instance, the definition "Timo Tolkki" in every possible world refers to Timo Tolkki - this is necessary true. But, on th contrary, we can easily imagine the world in which there was no such a man in history of Stratovarius. Thus TT`s claim that "Stratovarius = Tolkki" is easily refuted.

Actually no.Well, if we take and opposing reductionist position (which is basic in science) in this question then there is no such thing as Stratovarius at all. According to Reductionism 2 things can refer to one thing while having different meanings so the whole can mean more than the sum of it's parts while it refers only to the parts.
Cd and the album Visions by Stratovarius aren't the same thing but they both may refer to the same object. (Unless we agree with Plato and think that Visions refers to the idea of Visions and not a material Compact disc or a Compact Disc Individual)
But indeed

Sorry got carried away again.

I agree, Stratovarius is not only music but it's also an idea, and idea which every line up has been carrying over.

They all seem very happy playing in the band and it seems like they are a band with all contributing ideas. Sounds good, and good for the fans. However Stratovarius will never beat the peak of their success back 10 years ago in my opinion.

It is also said that sometimes a band does not just belong to the people in it, but also to those who love them. I think is true here as well, and that Jorg is right in this respect. Don't get me wrong, I f*ckin' love Tolkki and I love everything he's done to make Strato what it became, but I also love the music Strato has done so far without him as well. This is usually not the case for me when a main songwriter leaves a band (cases in point: Queensryche without Chris DeGarmo; Dream Theater without Mike Portnoy, even if he wasn't the *main* songwriter, he was still a HUGE component to what DT was, and while the new album is OK, I can hear that something is missing), so that says a lot for the remaining bandmembers, in that they held it together well enough to where sure, those of us who love Tolkki will always miss him, but we can totally appreciate the new dynamic and the things it brings to the table too.

They have proven out that they are good songwriters as well and that it was all the members who contributed to the great sound and not just one of them.
