Another one of my faves. MGS3 was one of my favorite video games, and Eva explaining her role went so well with this song.

Castlevania - Clockwork

Sonic 2 - Chemical plant zone

Turtles in time boss melody

Ducktales - Moon theme

Castlevania - Bloody tears

akumajou densetsu

Batman

TMNT arcade

Sonic 3 - special stage

These are all very old, because I am an old fuck!! My favorites. As much as I can remember right now. Castlevania is my favorite music with the neoclassical inspiration.

My taste would be similar to doc_holliday's, I adore the music from Final Fantasy, especially these three from FF VIII (which happens to be my favourite part anyway):
and and
Dancing Mad from FF VI is great, too. Especially the orchestral versions of Uematsu's compositions are mindblowing, totally love this symphony made out of various FF VIII themes: as well as this orchestral version of FF VII Jenova and One Winged Angel:

My favorite compositions come from:

FF8: Liberi Fatali but I love everything, it was one of my first JRPG and I loved it mora than FF7

FF Crisis Core: "Why" but not for the music, only for the mood during the cutscene; music fits well

The Legend of Zelda: Main Theme and some pieces from OoT, MM, TP and BotW as well (Ganondorf Battle is sick)

Pokémon: Wild Battle Theme and everything from the first two/three games (blue/red/green and yellow)

Dragon Ball Final Bout: Intro music

The Witcher series: literally everything especially from Wild Hunt (have you ever noticed how Out of the Fog is similar, in some parts, with Geralt of Rivia theme)

Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Counterattack, Still, move forward, Incoming and a lot more (one of the best JRPG ever)

Mother 3: I never knew the name of the songs but there's this sick battle theme with odd time signature, really cool

Super Mario: especially the main theme, but I love OST from the 3D series (Sunshine, Galaxy 1&2 and Odyssey)

And a lot of other music from: Castlevania, Metroid, World of Warcraft and Warcraft plus too many games to be mentioned.

Awesome topic!

Besides Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, and several other power metal bands, VGM has had a huge impact on my own style, understanding, and taste in music. There are so many excellent video game soundtracks out there!

I have so much to write about the Megaman franchise that it's not even funny! I'll save that for another day.
I'll be coming here every now and then to post about video game soundtracks that are interesting to me, but I'll start off with these:

robocop, maybe you've heard this OST before, but either way, it's an excellent NES soundtrack:
Shatterhand

Arranged soundtrack for Ys I & II:
Ys I & II Chronicles

The original PC-8801 version:
Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished
Ys II: Ancient Ys Vanished – The Final Chapter

Many of the Final Fantasy soundtracks are excellent, and, boasting a fantastic orchestral soundtrack, Final Fantasy XII is no exception:
Final Fantasy XII

I love many of David Wise's soundtracks, but Diddy Kong Racing is my favorite from him. The melodies are very inspired, and there are also so many great hooks:
Diddy Kong Racing

That's all for now. Kind of a random assortment, eh?

Well, I played two versions of Ys III a few weeks ago. The original PC-88 version and the PC-Engine / TurboGrafx-16 version.

For the PC-88 version, I found the controls to be shoddy at best, especially when jumping and maneuvering around rough terrain. I also found the lack of gravitational acceleration while jumping or falling, and overall character animation, to be humorously bad. Something that wasn't shoddy, however, was the soundtrack. The original soundtrack is quite good, but I prefer the arranged PC-Engine version for most of the songs.

For the PC-Engine version, the controls were handled way better, navigating rough terrain no longer felt stupid, but the animations were still crude. Something new to this version was the voice acting, which was pretty corny, but whatever. The arranged soundtrack is incredible, and I found a new appreciation for the songs afterwards. I consider this version the definitive experience for Ys III.

Kirby & the Amazing Mirror :: composed and arranged by Hironobu Inagaki & Atsuyoshi Isemura

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vemx0Wm6a6c

My favorite Kirby OST and Kirby game. It was a collaborative effort between Hal Laboratory (artwork), Dimps (programming & sound), and Flagship (planning), with the music composed by Arika staff.

It's kind of blasphemous that this game has my favorite Kirby OST, considering that this is one of the only main series Kirby games to not feature music composed by series veterans Jun Ishikawa, Hirokazu Ando, or Tadashi Ikegami (although, some tracks were arranged from earlier Kirby songs).

Wow! Happiest stuff ever! Do you know all those game programmers and designers names by heart?? What is your opinion on the KORG cartridges on those newer game boys? I know they have something like that on the new switch system, only wondering.

Truly a classic, TMNT arcade 1st stage, 1989. My childhood.

No, I just got that info from wikipedia. I do know a lot of video game composer's names by heart, though.

Wait, what? That's the first I've heard of that... ??? Are you, by chance, talking about the Korg Gadget? I don't have much to say about that, as I've never used it or seen it.
