Getting a band to the level of Stratovarius takes an enormous amount of work, not to mention luck. How could anyone find the motivation to start from scratch and tirelessly toil in touring and promotion, only to get to your previous level at best?

That's why Timo is trying to take a "shortcut" back to where he was before: saying the first RR album is "back to the visions sound", then Project Strato's return to the classic Dreamspace vibe, and finally the new album that supposedly goes back to the power-metal style. It would not surprise me if he released a Black Diamond Pt. 2.

I find this news very sad; TT is my favorite composer of all time and a true "guitar hero". But lets say he starts a new band with a new lineup. Why would it succeed if RR didn't?
That is, basically, the story of the whole thing. TT is my fav composer too, but now it seems he is not the same man anymore...but how can that be possible? I don't know, I just can't understand. It's painful for me to listen Stratovarius before Polaris, and thinking at the same time that the composer of that songs, or for example, the composer of my favourite metal album called Episode, has been doing all these strange things. And I don't mean strange things regarding his personal life, I mean in music business. I think -I really think- that nobody that knows about music business it's capable to explain the "maneuvers" of Timo Tolkki in Stratovarius from 2004 to now. Or well, it's easy to understand from an insane pov.
So, well...what's basically the story of Timo Tolkki from 2004 to now, an insane personality? a composer losing his talent? a megalomaniac thought becoming a nightmare?

I don't know, I just want to see Timo Tolkki making music again without problems, PLEASE. Is that possible?... I see it like:

YESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNOYESNO...

So, if that's what I think being just a fan (insane too thanks to this forum  ) , imagine being Timo Tolkki :square:

He regrets about leaving Stratovarius , but seeing the things from 2009 to now, I can say thanks again, my first big thanks was for his unique music, and now the thanks are for his thoughts about leaving Stratovarius, cause he shows us that the best thing for Stratovarius has been the departure of Timo Tolkki.

It's sad, but I think it's sad too, the way that the fans were praying to him saying: "please, think about it and continue with Stratovarius" and he saying in his statements that this is the best decision and bla bla...(anyway he was right)

NO, STRATOVARIUS IS ALIVE AND WELL, and OK, he created almost the whole Stratovarius magic, but that was possible thanks to Jens, Kotipelto, Jörg and Kainulainen. Then, Kainulainen decided to go cycling  and Porra was an absolutely perfect replacement and then Matias, the best young guitarrist was recruited and now Stratovatius is alive again, and everything is going fine and we are gonna have new albums, new gigs and new stuff. That's great, and I'm sorry for Timo Tolkki, but as he said to the fans: "take it easy"...

But, well...this is life and everybody deserves a second chance, so let's hope to see the best Tolkki creating magic again.

Imo New Era's Heroes, We are Magic and Last Night on Earth and AoA's Ghost of Fallen Grace, Sho She Wears Black, Kyrie Eleison and Into the Future are ones of best songs, what Tolkki has ever made. So I don't think, that he is losing his talent.

Abbath and Justin Beiber appearing on the same album would give me joy that is inconceivable on this plain of existence.

If that rumor about Uli Kusch and Andre Matos is true... well... let's just say he would have the attention of three of the four largest power metal markets in the world. Maybe get Alex Starpoli to do a guest appearance on keyboards? RR was approaching the issue the wrong way, nobody cared about anyone in RR other than Timo Tolkki. There's still a legion of Helloween fans (Myself among them) that think the best Helloween lineup ever was the one with Uli Kusch, and that his contributions to the songwriting were what made Better than Raw and the Dark Ride so goddamn awesome.

(Preliminary Prelude Piece in Z, Push, Revelation, Mr. Torture, and the Departed are all credited to Uli from those two albums).

If aoa had been a mix of aquaria and stratovarius that should have done something. I think Bruno and timo could come up with some amazing stuff if they mixed their strengths with creating uplifting symphonic power metal instead of making what they did. Both stratovarius and aquaria gave the performers a lot more to do than aoa and new era

I see that option as very unlikely...I mean, do you actually see those 4 hanging out together and making music "together" without any kind of problems?

Even if Tolkki lost 300 pounds, those egos could not fit together in one room. Then again, it would not surprise me if he wrote an album and hired some big names. But the possibility of a true musical collaboration (with touring) is absurd.

Honestly, if Timo is in a sound state of mind (Which he seems to be now), I don't think it would be an issue. If he wants to get his career back, he's going to need some big names to help. Matos and Kusch are both doing very little, or nothing. And Matos would grab the attention of the South American market. I have to imagine Kusch still holds some sway. Even on Episode, a lot of his success was because he went out and got two of the best musicians on the market, who were already established as very very good.

No he doesn't! Musicbusiness does not look the same as it did in the 90's

So what? In the 90's music business was not the same as in the 80's either.

It's hard to know what Tolkki is going to do at this point, one thing I do know is that I am sad that he's breaking up RR but then again if this is the way he feels what can we do about it other then piss and moan?

I do also hope that he stays involved in the music scene but if he doesn't I believe he's earned the right to a nice peaceful retirement, don't get me wrong here some of the decisions he's made in the past have really upset me but I've just adopted an attitude of "the man is going to do what the man is going to do".

As far as his stuff post Stratovarius I'd have to say it's a bit different but I did enjoy it.
Same with the post Tolkki Strato album Polaris, I really think they both needed to get away from each other to start writing music they both love.

Who knows what's going to happen in the future, we can only wait to see what it holds.

We are at the middle of August. September is coming, are there no demos or downloadable songs somewhere from Trinity?

Do you guys remember when AoA came out, there was a lot of downloadable stuff at RR.com

I could draw the cover.

No wonder it would look like a 5 year old did it in MS paint, but still.
