I don`t listen to much Deathmetal-bands, but I think Eternal tears of sorrow and In Flames are extremly good.

Children of Bodom. And commenting on earlier suggestions that CoB isn't death metal.. yes, it is a death metal band. Melodic death is death as well.
They have some really classic songs and the vocals are good. Also they come from my country, which always adds a little bonus.

In Flames, God Forbid, Lamb of God, The Haunted, Unearth, Diecast, Deicide, Dimmu Borgir, Mnemic, Killswitch Engage and Opeth are the ones I can think of at the moment. All of these might not be death metal though, but for me it could be closely classified to it.

I think children of bodom are speed metal actually.

If CoB is death, then I choose them. BTW, they're the only band, that I can listen from this genre...

Beside that: Behemoth are great... just bought their latest album... may be interesting for those who think pure US Death Metal is boring.. its some kind of mixture i think.. very interesting and surely quite intense... their older stuff is good too...

The Best Death Metal band muts be a Norwegian Death Metal band because they are best.
You Know, Dimmu Borgir,Satyricon, Old MansChild and many other Great band from Norway an I come from. But the most of them are Black metal.
But I Like Troll Myr very much!!!!

Hmmmm i don't listen to much death metal....i'd probably have to say Amon Amarth...or maybe Finntroll kinda Folk/Death i like that

I just got an album by ORIGIN, Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas and it's just SICK!!! Totally extreme over the top! Sometimes a bit too technical and they lack the atmosphere that NILE have but still well worth checking out.

And for Black Metal I urge all of you to go and listen to ROTTING CHRIST, they're freakin' awsome!
