Gwah. Strato has 2 or 3 albums that are equal to where Nightwish is nowdays.
And I think that they are pop-metal with infuences from technically more advanced styles, just to say "we're good".
That's not quite true. After hearing Strato's Hunting High & Low and Eagleheart, NW's nemo wont sound all that pop to me.. And anyway, pop means that the music is popular and Nightwish really is that nowdays.

Nightwish is Symphonic/Moviesoundtrack-metal. 8)

Sorry if it's off-topic. Is anyone from here coming to Nightwish gigs in London Astoria this or next Saturday? I don't have a Nightwish T-shirt, so more likely I'll be wearing The Elements Tour T-shirt. If you wanna come up and say hi, you're wellcome :D

I know the various meanings of pop. I wanted to use the one which says something about the technical quality of the band, not it's original meaning, what You said, popular.

Anyway, I didn't want to attack them, that's just my opinion. I don't see the similarities between them, if not that they are both metal bands. There actually IS one thing in common, the neoclassical melody-world of the two bands.

Symphonic/moviesoundtrack-metal :D :D :D :D :D :D

sry for my bad english
I think he meant that Strato was the band he appreciated very much at the time he was putting up the idea of Nightwish. That is easily understood, when you think that he was a young guy from Finland and Strato was already known worldwide. But he took his own way and created a totally new style or subgenre of metal, pulling together influences of several music styles from in- and outside of metal.
He was lucky to have Tarja with her increadible voice for vocals, which became their trademark, but making keys the leading instrument instead of guitar was the bravest shot in the era of guitar heroes.

Now we have bands following that idea, but not too many. Even today, after several years, I cannot see that there are too many or maybe any similar bands to Nightwish. They are very original, always moving on and changing, and thus capable of making the best out of Holopainen's creativity.

And no matter what, Stratovarius are still great, and these two bands have created their own musical paths, not trying to copy others. That is called talent, or should I use the word 'genius'.

Have to agree with that! It's always so amusing to read the endless "What genre is Nightwish?" debates because they really don't fall into any category 100%. I like to stick with what Tuomas said last May,

"I have heard the weirdest descriptions,” remarked Tuomas in the Kitee interview. “Neoclassical, atmospherical, progressive gothic, speed thrash metal or whatever, I don’t know. I would like to think that we are like a symphonic metal band. We definitely are a metal band, even though I think this new album is more diverse. To make it short, it’s symphonic metal for me."

Well, if that works for him, it works for me.
