In a melodic metal band:
Vocals: Tony Kakko(Sonata Arctica)
Guitar: Michael Romeo (Symphony X)
Guitar: Kiko Loureiro (Angra)
Bass: Billy Sheehan (Vai)
Drums: Ulli Kusch (Masterplan)
No keyboards?!?!?!?
Here goes; I've chosen more than one for some categories because it is just too hard to choose

:
Drums: Carlos Cantatore (Skylark until very recently

)
Bass: Patrick Vir (Forgotten Tales)
Guitars: Yngwie Malmsteen, Norifumi Shima (Concerto Moon)
Keyboards: Jens Johansson (err, Strato), Richard Andersson (Majestic/Time Requiem/Space Odyssey), Toshiyuki Koike (Concerto Moon)
Vocals: Roy Khantatat (Kamelot - his full last name is so much better than "Khan"

), John West (Royal Hunt)
Yeah, no keyboards, just look at the guitar players i named...why would you need a keyboard player?
And if i ever add keyboards to my "dream team" (

) then i would probably fire one guitar player...mmm, let's say Kiko Loureiro, then i have Romeo playing along with...mmm...maybe Richard Andersson or Miko Harkin

Whats wrong with Tarja? She's got a cool voice.
Unfortunately, Nightwish arent as homoerotic as Dragonforce, maybe that's what bothers you? Females intimidate you?

(just kidding!)

I like some of their stuff but it gets boring after hearing it too much.
Much prefer female singers like Seven Angels, Krusader and Arch Enemy

I have said before that I have found in Stratovarius everything I could want in an "ultimate band".
That said I have a few interesting combos.
I want to see Yngwie do another album with Jens and Anders, and have Joe Lynn Turner back on vocals!!!! So long as this did not disturb Stratovarius. That was the best lineup he ever had. Yngwie's last three have been sub-par by the standards I feel he has set himself with his earlier stuff. I am still an Yngwie stallwart though. I will buy whatever he puts out.
How about Yngwie or Timo Tolkki with Steve Perry(vocalist from Journey)
Tarja Turunen and Yngwie. With Jens on keys, and Jorg on drums.
Steve Vai with Jan Hammer on keys, Peter Gabriel on vocals, Billy Sheehan on bass, and Mike Portnoy on the skins
Timo Kotipelto:vocals, Steve Vai:guitars, John Myung:bass, Tony MacAlpine:keyboards and guitars, Nicko McBrain:drums
just a few

Michael Kiske, Kai Hansen (guitar!), Thomas Youngblood, Mike Terrana, Steve Harris
Yeah... Classic, powerful, melodic - with virtous songwriting. But Michael Kiske would have thoroughly to rethink about Heavy Metal. Otherwise I'd like to see (or hear) Rick Mythiasin (Ex-Steel Prophet) instead. By the way... anyone knows what he's doing now???

Asked a million times, here goes :
Male vocals : close tie between Robert Plant and Bruce Dickinson, I think I'll choose Plant.
Female vocals : Sharon den Adel
Lead guitars : David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) & John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
Rythm guitar : tie between Mike Romeo and Emppu from Nightwish, I'll choose MJR for soloing
Lead keyboards : Jens, obvious choice
Atmossphere keyboards : Rick Wright (Pink Floyd)
Bass : tie between John Myung (Dream Theater) and Thomas Miller (ex-Symphony X - I still haven't recovered comppletely from the opening of
Sea Of Lies). Or maybe Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) for his awesome songwriting skills. In the end, I think I'll choose Miller.
Drums : God, there are so many great drummers out there... I'll choose Neil Peart, one among many others.

Vocals - Jarmo Pääkkönen (Excalion)
Guitars - Timo Tolkki (Revolution Reanaissance)
Guitars - Luca Turilli (Rhapsody of Fire)
Keyboards - Jens Johansson (Stratovarius)
Drums - Jörg Michael (Stratovarius)
Bass - Lauri Porra (Stratovarius)
I just noticed it is very Strato filled but there is an explanation. Out of the dozens of bands I think of Strato members as the most skilled.

Vocals: Jorn Lande

(Jorn, Masterplan, Allen/Lande, Ex-Beyond Twilight, Ex-Millenium, Ex-Ark, Ex-The Snakes) (Easy one. I just love this guy! My favourite singer!)
Guitars: Victor Smolski

(Rage, Mind Odyssey) (My favourite guitarist. You have to check him out and get some stuff from Rage!)
Guitars: Alex Beyrodt

(Silent Force, Voodoo Circle, Ex-Sinner) (The guitar player of Silent Force and former guitarist of Sinner. Very underrated guy!)
Bass: "Peavy" Wagner

(Rage, Ex-Meakong Delta, Ex-Der Riß) (Great bass player and great singer! He is Rage!)
Drums: Uli Kusch

(Beautiful Sin, Ex-Ride the Sky, Ex-Masterplan, Ex-Helloween, Ex-Gamma Ray, Ex-Holy Moses, Ex-Schockmachine, Ex-Roland Grapow) (Stupid me! How could I forget about Uli Kusch? Great drummer and songwriter!)
Keyboard: Janne Wirrman

(Children of Bodom, Warmen, Ex-Masterplan [was suposed to be a member when MP was still just a side project])(One of my favourite keyboardists!)

Ragehead:you'd be proud of me, I was very intrigued by the stuff you mentioned about masterplan that I went and bought all the masterplan albums.
And warmen actually technically was in the band as he recorded all the tracks for the first album he just never toured with them.
Anyways here's my dream band (this is subject to change as I do change my mind quite frequently)
Vocals:Bruce Dickinson or Timo Kotipelto
Bass:Steve Harris
Keyboards:Jens Johansson or Mikko Harkin
Guitar:Dave Murray(I think he is underrated and more people focus too much on Adrian smith or Janick gers)
Guitar plus back up vocals:Kai Hansen
Drums:Uli Kusch

For a bit of a heavier sound:
Vocals: Till Lindemann (Rammstein)
Guitar: Kerry King (Slayer)
Bass: Byron Stroud (ex-Strapping Young Lad, Zimmers Hole, Fear Factory)
Drums: Gene Hoglan (ex-Strapping Young Lad, Zimmers Hole, ex-Dark Angel, Dethklok)
Now that's a band that could blow you away live. Plus they have one of the best (if not the best) drummers in Metal.

Great! Now I have to get you to listen to Rage
Well, I don't think so. I think it was clear that he couldn't stay in the band so he decided to record the first album and then left the band. I think he never was a real band member. He was more of a seasson mussician.
*punshes himself* stupid, stupid me! How could I forget Uli Kusch in my list? I have to change that!

It's all good ragehead, oh and I will check out some rage.
That's what I meant about warmen, he recorded all the tracks for them but never toured as he was not considered an actual bandmember, in fact in the booklet he is only listed as a session musician.
And it's okay about Kusch, I figured you most likely forgot so I added him for you.
some guys who didn't make my list but are worth mentioning are:Michael Weikath,Nicko Mcbrain,Dio,KK downing,Jorn Lande,Henrik Klingenberg(I'm sure I've fucked up his last name)Rob halford,Tim owens,Yngwie Malmsteen,Tony Kakko and many others who I will think of later but can't think of now.

Okay, here is another dreamband since I couldn't put all of my favourite mussicians in one band:
Vocals: Oliver Hartman

(Hartman, Ex-Centers, Ex-At Vance) (This guy is just criminally underrated. I discovered him when I discovered At Vance. He has done backing vocals for many Power Metal bands like Rapshody, Edguy or Avantasia and after he left At Vance in 2002 he founded his own AOR band Hartman. Defenitly worth checking out!)
Guitars: Manni Schmidt

(Grave Digger, Ex Rage) (I first knew him because he played in Rage from 1987 to 1993 and played on classic albums like Perfect Man, Trapped and The Missing Link. In 1993 he was kicked because he wanted to spent more time with his family. In 2001 he joined Grave Digger and he really fits into this band more then he would fit in Rage since the band changed so much since he left it. Great guitar player)
Guitars: Olaf Lenk

(At Vance, Ex-Centers). (Also very unknown and underrated guy. He is the guitar player and mastermind behind At Vance, one of my favourite bands. You can hear that he is very much influenced my Yngwie Malmsteen, but his style of playing is less flashy, more melodic and more in the direction of power metal and not only fast and flashy for the sake of beeing fast and flashy like Yngwie on his albums. I would check him out.)
Comment: I know both Lenk and Schmidt are very different but I like the contrast of Schmidt who has a more rough speed metal style of playing and Lenk who is more the Malmsteen Neo-Classical kind of guy)
Bass: Jari Kainulainen

(Evergrey, Project Strato, Ex-Stratovarius, Ex-Warmen, Ex-Kotipelto) (I don't think I have to say much about him! He is just a great bassplayer!)
Drums: Mike Terrana

(I can't keep track on all the bands he was in. He currently plays with Masterplan, Tarja Turunen and Axel Rudi Pell. He played for Rage, Yngwie Malmsteen and even a few gigs with Gamma Ray in the past) (Okay, appart from him beeing arrogant and having a very big ego he is always funny and propably one of the best drummers out there!)
Keyboards: Jens Johansson

(Stratovarius, Ex-Dio, Ex-Yngwie Malmsteen and also gues appereances in a looooooooot of bands) (Do I really have to write anything?)

Dave is pretty much regarded the best Maiden guitar player. Most fluid technique, improv and a MONSTER legato only surpassed by Satch (in musicality, not so much technique)

Ragehead:you forgot to put that Jens was also in silver mountain.
Babylon:No keyboard player?
Stratoplayer:Dave Murray is great, I just noticed whenever people talk about maiden guitar players they barely mention him, it's always this ongoing battle with "do you like Adrian Smith or Janick Gers?" now I like them both however I just like Dave slightly better cause he IS the sound of maiden.
