I like KoRn, but only the old stuff. Everything since "Untouchables" sucks IMO - they lost their "psycho"style, and they really had hell of original stuff in that early era. Nowadays they are only pleasing the media and the charts.

Well,IMO those bands are also metal, but not HeavyMetal. It's another sort... a branche that developed in a different way.

I know that Slipknot, Korn... is not heavy metal .
But this is not metal . What different way ? The way to make money ?
Nothing is new in their music ! I don't need CD's of a band who says to me that People = Shit .

There's a bunch of things that's new compared to traditional metal. Of course, everything's a question of taste. Personally I don't like Slipknot, too. But there are really cool, creative bands in that genre, also.
But, what the heck - in the end it's just a matter of taste...

Except the vocals, guitar, bass and drums in slipknot, what those other guys do??? they're entertainment to the public?

For teatrical purposes I guess.
As they don't know how to make good music, they entretain the masses instead with their colourful mask and stupidity.
It's like this band...ummm Ill Nino I think using 2 drummers....why? aren't the guitars loud enough?

It's not my cup of tea, even if i respect the tastes of everybody.

It's all gimmick. All show, no substance. I know some people here are going to take issue with me for saying this, but it's just like Kiss. They use their theatrics to cover up their lack of musical skill. I'll give Kiss credit though, they freely admit that to be the case. They know what they are and what they can do and have been successful. I think bands like Mudvayne, and Slipknot wish to be taken seriously.

The only band that could pull off the theatrical makeup, and actually have the musical goods to back it up was Merciful Fate, and later King Diamond.


The rest is just garbage marketed to trend happy America.

You speak about Kiss ! And you compare them with Slipknot !
The "corpse paints" of Kiss are different ! The look of Kiss has a signification , and they wanted to show a different aspect of their music. It was new , and very ingenious !
Manson , Slipknot have a look that a lot of bands have already had before them !

hey, by the way - doesn't KISS mean "Knights in Satan's Sold"??? And what should that mean, please? Are they satanistic?

As much as I dislike Satanism, it does require a small amount of intelligence, and an actual thought pattern.

This fact automatically excludes Kiss.

I suggest you to listen to Korn's first, self-titled album, and then tell me it's not metal. I agree that afterwards they started to suck, but their first album is a masterpiece. It's crazy, heavy, creative and highly headbangable ...

Slipknot is a great band too, I have all of their albums, all of them are heavy as fuck, insane and very well executed ... Slipknot is a great way to introduce new metal fans to heavier side of metal ...

Any says "Knights in Satan's Sold" other tells you it means "Knights in Satan's Service" but both is not true. Truth is it means a kiss, sign of love of two people.

But what you say is wrong . I like Classical Music , Jazz , Blues , Rap , RNB ... If i say : "it's shit" , it is because people think , that metal=shit , that metal is not music because they hear Korn , Slipknot , fucking bands who don't play metal !! I am sure that if people heared Iron Maiden or Accept , they couldn't say that metal is not music.

If ordinary people hear bands like Morbid Angel, Cradle Of Filth or Cannibal Corpse, they also say it's noise and shit. What is the difference in reaction to music between those bands and Korn or Slipknot?

I don't really like those bands either. It's like this for me. I can't deal with bands whose "vocalist" growls all the time in that "cookie monster" tone. It's great to use that as an accent in some songs, but the whole song, no way. I grew up listening to bands like Iron Maiden, Helloween, Queensryche, Living Colour, Dokken, Journey, Megadeth, Whitesnake, Dio, Ozzy, and Europe. Guitarists like Yngwie, Steve Vai, Satriani, Tony MacAlpine, Marty Friedman, and Chris Impellitteri. The one things all these bands and artists have in common was (is) great musicianship, and great vocals (instrumentals notwithstanding). To me, these guys raised the bar so high. These bands like all the nu-metal bands mentioned, as well as bands like Cannibal Corpse fall so far below that bar that they don't even register on my radar. It's like that famous picture you see of man's evolution from ape to man, except in reverse. I guess I am just biased, "old-school".

Bands like Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Nightwish, Dream Theater, Symphony X, etc are the logical EVOLUTION to those bands mentioned above. Discovering these bands, first with Stratovarius 3 years ago, has re-affirmed my faith in the Allmighty, LOL. Too many nu-metal bands that all sounded the same. All trying to sound like Pantera, all without the benefit of Dimebag Darrell's fiery guitar style.

I guess this is my biggest reason for not liking nu-metal. I am biased. I need musicianship.

No, I wouldn't say so. That's only because everybody links "new metal" with only a small number of bands like Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, KoRn, ... There's also a good number of bands that doesn't please the mainstream's taste.
But one thing is for sure: Many bands, doesn't matter if New Metal or other style, neglect their roots and start making mainstream music. Best example on metal side is metallica.

Don't get me started on Metallica . That band took a giant shit on all their original fans. "Kill em All", "Ride the Lightning", "Master of Puppets", and "....And Justice for All" are classics. The "Black album" is marginal at best, and that is the extent of my Metallica CD's.

That garbage they put out last year was by far their worst, and in my opinion, isn't even listenable. Metallica is nu-metal now, and I didn't think they could sink any lower than "Load". I was mistaken.

I don't think they react like that for Cradle Of Filth . Nymphetamine is FM music. This is the "fashion-band " ! In France , it is like that ...

Metallica !! As early as 1991 it was FM music . The best thing that Metallica knew was Dave Mustaine , 1983 .

exactly. Metal has no rap or hiphop elements in it and it hasn't a gangster image. So, two big reasons to say Nu Metal is not Metal... Why do we say nu METAL and not nu HIPHOP? - I know the answer: this topic would be senseless
