Would have liked to see Aquiles in the band, I haven't heard much of Mangini, but given how "Obvious" of a fit he was, it makes me question if he's going to really push the band in any new directions. If this next record is just more of the same, I'll be disappointed.

Minneman would have been a great addition but I think they still chose the right man for the job.

Here you can read an interesting and long interview where Petrucci and Rudess are talking about everything regarding the Mike's departure and future plans. This is an interview that all DT fans or somebody who wants to know what happened with Mike Portnoy, should read.

It is really interesting. The interview is divided in 6 pages on this website:

This one is pretty too, now that I think about it.

No laptop! They didn't exist that long ago.

Well I do remember from previous interviews with both Mike Portnoy and all the other band members that the split wasn't vicious or anything, Mike just wanted them to take a slight break before recording the new album and the other members wanted to continue in the fashion that they have been for awhile.

So in the end it was just differences of opinion, as far as I can see none of them are pissed at each other

I had hoped he had said slight break, but 5 years was pretty extreme. I think the band could have benefitted from another year break, maybe release in late 2012/early 2013, but 5 years would have broken them, for sure.

That's the compromise he asked for was that they at least take one year off, he just thought they needed to recharge themselves however the other band members didn't agree.

where did he say 1 year? going from 5 years down to 1 seems extreme and lacking conviction for why 5 years would even be brought up.

I think it was more than clear that MP was tired of the band, that's all. He was the only one who wanted to go away. A band like DT can't stop NOW for 5 years, that would mean the end of the band. I mean, they are not 20 o 30 years old you know... And who can assure you that maybe, after that 5 years MP decides to leave the band? Meanwhile, what can the others do? Just wait and see? No, the best was the departure of MP. It was sad, but it was the normal decision for the rest of the band to continue.

The man was tired of DT, for that reason he was touring with a7x and is now with other projects.

I'm really excited to see this new DT without MP.

It's on one of the interviews he did, he said initially he wanted a big break and he thought they would emerge with something great but he saw that the guys weren't going for that so he asked that they at least take one year off however they didn't want to do that either.

How did this become about country and pride? I thought this was a discussion about the band dream theater?

Hiro! Hiro!

This was almost the smallest jump from a threadsubject I ever saw! I asked if there was anyone else that doesn't care, which drummer DT now will use and Raziel asked me, in all his rights, why I posted such a shameful thought. Was I an US-hater?

I answered NO and that I had other more mystic reasons. To make it really clear that I didn't hate any country. I also said, that I love both US an Spain! Dearly! :luv1:

But Hiro! You made this innocent, kind exchange of opinions to some country-fight. Why Hiro? Why?
