well, you say that this is the 100000000 thread about best guitarists, so you see that not everyone knows that speed and technique don't are together in every case

Romeo can play some some very sick riffs, but I don't like much his solos.
But I like Tolkki's playing much better I would like hear Romeo doing solo like in "Twilight Symphony" end of the song with that much of emotion.

I think you can´t really talk about the "BEST" guitarist...or "who is better" !!
It´s all about preferences...if you like tolkkis style better, it doesn´t mean that he is technically better than romeo !

So here is my conclusion: Romeo is the best guitarist for SymphonyX and Tolkki the best for Stratovarius !!

First thing that hits me is Sonata, the little instrumental from Twilight in Olympus. Listen to that. Otherwise, I'm sure our expert panel can tell you some Romeo solos with plenty of emotion. :)

Don't get me wrong, I think Romeo is one hell of a guitarist, but I like Tolkki's playing better, I can't explain why but anyway. :)

Hehe, it's okay... Do you think I would be here if I didn't think Tolkki was a sick, kickass, mindblowing, emotional guitarist with great tone? :)

I just love to like many guitarists, and I want everybody to like many gutiarists as well :D Even if it means praising Romeo ;)

"I told it to Mike too, but my personal opinion is that I am like Angus Young compared to him"

You're too hard on yourself! :)

"I just can't help but be biased, no matter how hard I try..."

Try harder :)

"I am just a soft-hearted fool,I guess!"

True.

I guess that´s a joke. Romeo is a fucking giant of neoclassic metal. You can´t even compare, although Tolkki is great.
"I AM... Fernando", who was banned from the Tolkki forum for starting fights, has made 13 posts so far, most of them suggesting he's come here with the explicit goal of starting fights. Some of them stating it outright in plain language.

Let's see if we can just let him post without replying.

Don't get fooled. he wants you to get angry, and to reply, so he can continue his game.

Romeo is a war machine but tolkki incorporates emotions in his playing.

Sad. :(
There is room for both these guitar greats in equal portions in this world...:)

I don´t see any versus here. First of all, does anyone know anything about music? Did you really listened to Symphony X? It´s not all about tecnique and practising. You can practice all your life, that doesn´t mean you will be a giant in music.

What makes Romeo a brillant musician is what he can say in his music. Just because some guitar wannabe´s can have his inspiration, talent and technique doesn´t make any versus with Tolkki, which is boring and repetitive.
If you think that Romeo & Symphony X is the Best go to their Forum !
& don't back more in here !

Why people always want to compare musicians?

How can you say Zidane is the best soccer player of the world, if they just select the ones in europe? what about the defense players and goalkeeper?

Who is better, Zidane or Oilver Kahn?

geeezz

TO COMPARE delete it from your minds

Woah, I'm sure there was another of this very same topic here.
Basicaly, Romeo is my #1 fave guitarist at this very moment like I told him once. But Tolkki got lots of emotions and the way he plays and solos makes the songs more accessible. Really, Strato's songs can be really catchy and play on the radio (even if it remains metal) but SyX is really progressive and isn't everyone's bag.
My conclusion is that both guitarists could learn something from the other -- both in playing and songwriting-wise.

I should get an album of SyX. They were really good at pt1 tour. Romeo is a real machine, I cant deny it.

Definitely Divine Wings of Tragedy or V... But The Odyssey and Twilight in Olympus are also must-have albums, so you have a positive problem in your hands :)

hmmm, the only SyX album I got is The Odyssey, but I don't like it that much because of the vocals.

You don't like Russell Allen?!?!

Anyway, the recommendations for "Divine Wings of Tragedy" and "Twilight in Olympus" are seconded. "V" and "The Odyssey" are great, sure, but not quite as good as those two earlier albums...
