I like guns, and responsible people should be allowed to have them so they can hunt game, defend themselves, etc. Remember: "Guns don't kill people. People with guns do." :bigok:

But would those people kill people without guns?
Perhaps not. And this is the point...

That's why we have laws controlling the purchase of guns. See earlier posts on this string for more info.

ok dude...there is a differnce here even you should see. Did you know ther are about 10 000 gun related deaths every year in america while in for example my country, sweden there are like 10-20.
And in Canada, which also is big theres like 50. So go figure..

You say that more armed people mean less crime? No, because..if everyone was armed that would be the norm and something else would have to top it. Like you would need a bigger gun or whatever.
Its also a fact that guns are an nexcellet tool for killing people EASILY. Now, if you dont have a gun, the chances are you wont kill a guy as easily as you would just puling a goddamn trigger.
Im for guns for home protection etc,, but you shoiuldnt be allowed to carry it around in cities imo.

But, nowadays, they're sometimes necessary.

I've seen a similar discussion on another forum a while back.

It seems that a lot of people, especially Americans, think carrying a gun will prevent crime and that if you don't have a gun, you don't fit in. This is what troubles me.

Shootings are a daily event in America, yet no one is willing to accept it. What terrbile accident has to occur before someone finally realies that?

Answer me this, if those laws work so well, how come almost every US citizen is still able to buy a gun without a gun license? If even the police advises people to buy a gun, then the country has lost all control. :err:

I think that even more important than control over the weapon sales is a different attitude in public about guns.

I dont think that weapons should be banned. It´s still some sort of "power" in the hands of the people, if there are political uprisings or something like that.
But the "force monopoly" (no idea how to translate.. here it is called Gewaltmonopol) should be a privilege of the police in normal situations.

I think a main problem today is, that weapons are (in the USA for example) are too much accepted and because of that there is too much careless acting with them. If people are living with guns all their lives, they dont think much about this...

Here it is also possible to get guns, although it is much more complicated than in the US. But i think that here is a lack of general acceptance. I know very few people how are interested in guns at all.

Of course this isnt the only reason for gun violence, but i think it is an important point...

I see it's pretty much clear that we have two different worlds, two different perspectives on guns. First we have the US that considers guns tools that help prevent crimes... and next we have Europe, wich has a totaly opposite view on things, saying that if we didn't have all those guns, we'd have a much safer world... In a way both of these theories are true, in a way guns made humankind what it is today (good or bad, you judge). Unfortunately the thruth is always somewhere in the middle.

I just say NO to guns.

NOT necessary AT ALL. There are lots of countries where it is forbidden to have guns at home and there's no problem with it...

You can't carry a gun over here. And it's actually quite rare to see reports of armed robberies on the news.

To my I do not like, it seems to me a triviality (I think) that is necessary to be able or to be able to defend to somebody, if before he is all the opposite and we speak of when there is a boy who finds it is a danger here and my country have been cases that a boy finds a weapon and thinks that is a toy and ends up shooting somebody, killing it or hurting themselves to if same. In addition that person creates to be a superior being to have it or in some cases. The homicides increase more desven to diminish. what one assumes human is security for my is another deceit of thinking.

(I think that)

I like the minigun. Turok is awesome. Even if there were not guns people would still kill each other. They have been doing it for thousands of years. The gun is just a more affectice way of killing, otherwise it wouldn't be as easy to kill without them. I'm sure more advanced weaponry will come over the years. You think guns are bad? Just wait for the Hand Nuke!!! That would be something.

I see the gun as just another idiotic invention in a long line of killing tools wrought during the history of mankind.
Like swords, spears, bows, axes, knives etc, guns are essentially just tools to take the life from a living being. :uzi:

I don't pretend I can stop people from owning guns, but think of it this way:
If no one had a weapon, would we even bother to kill each other so fervently as of late? :?

I think not.

I think the biggest problem in America is how easy it is to get guns. In some states you can actually, legally, buy a gun before you're old enough to have a beer or any alcohol.

Logical? Is a beer more dangerous than a loaded rifle?

Because they're so easy to obtain and therefore there are so many of them, shit will happen. Many people who own them have not had any sort of background checks, may have mental difficulties or have been involved in criminal activites, or just be unsuitable for the huge responsibility that bearing a firearm needs. Sure they may be a mentally stable person with a clean record, but if they're just not suited to having a gun, and have (for example) young children in the house and don't take the proper precautions, tragedy is very easy to happen.

I know A LOT about guns, I was in the army for 2 years. They're not to be taken lightly. It's a big responsibility. Gun safety is one of the most vital issues in any army (the amount checks we had to go through were almost absurd) and the general attitude amonst gun-owners in America is 'Yeah! We got guns! Cool! Let's go shoot stuff!'

There's a severe lack of discipline amongst these people. And as the officers in the army used to say to us, constantly, and I used to say to the guys under my command, constantly, 'Discipline with guns is the most important kind'.

People in America tend to see them as things for fun. I accept hunting as a sport. Skeet shooting etc. fine.

But who the hell in their right minds needs a semi-automatic assault rifle in their home?? What you gonna to be hunting, elephants?? Or fighting off angry lynch mobs on a daily basis from your front yard?? I mean come on. I can (just about) understand a handgun for home protection.

The laws need changing. Simple as that. No, don't take away peoples guns, unless they're not suited for the very important responsibility of owning one or have had links with crime in the past.

That is all.

THIS is what happens when you can freely have a gun, at least the bastard was arrested. I highly doubt this could happen in any other country. Damn, I'm glad I don't live there....
