unless over in europe headbanging guitarists and growling vocalists dressed in black count as pop, but that's not different from what stratovarius guys do. stratovarius does not even have aggressive signing.
if two bands use some of the same stage moves it does not make sense to say they are doing different stage moves

from the songs ive heard they fit in with stratovarius songs like halcyon days, and i don't think stratovarius thinks its so out of place to tour. the crowds were moving in the videos i watched
How can you compare Halcyon days with that? And you say growling...sorry but that is the most pop thing inside the whole metal world, that is what most of teens want to listen, somebody singing with strange voice in the stage just to say, "you see!! this is metal"  The same with that death metal bands singing satanic songs and then praying to god to sell their albums
And Stratovarius does not decide about the bands they play, it is the label.

And I understand the label, cause Amaranthe is a band that have some good fanbase right now and it is a good move.
Anyway i think it is time to move on for Stratovarius and start to think about doing again 90 minutes o 2 hours shows just about them and having just an opener and that's all.

You don't understand or don't want to understand what I mean, so enjoy with Amaranthe, I just said my opinion about a band I saw live, other people enjoy and thinks it is a fantastic band, it's ok, no problem. We just say our opinions. In the stage, I saw hundreds of teens jumping and singing and when Stratovarius started, many of them dissapeared and Stratovarius started the show and the thing was COMPLETELY different in every aspect, the venue was an earthquake! I suppose you are not used to that kind of sound, but if you know a little bit about dance songs styles in europe since 90's you will know that amaranthe is just another eurovision group of people playing with guitars and a growling voice just to say "we are metal". And no, it is not a coincidence that this band is from Sweden

And hey, I have nothing against the band, I just say my opinion and what I think about the band. They have tons of fans and they sell a lot of albums so maybe I'm wrong about it

What's the running order? Seven Kingdoms, Amaranthe, Strato?

When someone says "DISCO" in America, it usually means the genre of 1970s disco music. I guess in Europe DISCO means nightclub dance music or pop music? Also, it makes me think someone is talking about a bands discography. :crazy1:

This is what I see when someone says DISCO:

well if death metal is pop, and power metal is metal, that is upsidedown world.

If you're talking about the vocals in that band as death metal...nope. That is metalcore.

Death metal:

the point is the vocals are more agressive than power metal vocal, whatever genre you wish to call it. plenty of melodic death metal bands labeled melodic death metal by the lables have that kind of vocals.
metalcore is at most mixing metal and punk, which is still more agressive than power metal. so at the core, it's saying more agression is more pop and less agression is more metal

same member wise, stratovarius could have toured with dragonland as they are more like stratovarius than amaranthe. the guys tend to be reviewed better in dragonland than amaranthe and dragonland is more straight up power and symphonic metal

Amaranthe
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Amaranthe is a Swedish/Danish band that fuses melodic metal with pop melodies

It is pop with guitars, pop metal or whatever new style they need to call just to convince people, cause obviously, it's easier to get famous in metal world than in pop kingdom, cuase it is really plenty of pop artists, and in metal scene there are not so many bands like Amaranthe.
It is all about the girl singing, striking poses and the guy trying to convince people that this is metal (cause you know if I try to go alone it's gonna be really difficult to get famous against Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Madonna etc, etc, but if I go and I'm the only girl surrounded by guys, maybe I will be famous in the same place where only guys are famous (metal scene). It is another pop singer like the mtv ones, and that's all. If you can't see that, you are completely blind. You have some dance singers (robo, dance I mean trance, techno and all these famous music here in Europe nights) that you will see that are like if you were seeing elyze without the whole paraphernalia beng single artists.

Is that pop metal thing good? is that bad? I don't know, I just said I don't like it at all. They are talented of course and they sell albums, but I was just expressing my opinion.

And Icecab, if you go to an Amaranthe concert and the you say that was a metal show, then is when the world is upside down, and forget about melodies or voices, it is more than that.

the live videos i saw of amaranthe she was wearing all black and leather. do we have pictures of the drummer, bassist, and guitarist all wearing bellydancing uniforms? ok pop metal, i think thats a different thing than not metal at all.

as far as metal, concert, perhaps the videos don't tell the same story or the audiance you had reasponed different from the videos i saw but the crowd was not acting extremely different from the two bands in some youtube videos up from last month

stratovarius

stratovarius

amaranthe

amaranthe

pretty much anything the crowd do in one i see in the other from clapping to fist pumping to sing along.

Oh yes dude you have the word metal just after the word pop, now you can go to sleep serenely. I don't have pictures of the other members with bellydancing uniforms, but I will post a picture of my metal cactus today if possible :D

ok checked out seven kingdoms, cool stuff, not sure sure how known in the usa they are. the metal archives reviews have averages in the 90's for all three albums. the band has done well support wise being support for blind guardian as well.

Geoff Tate's head is looking more and more like a football, only enhancing his resemblance to Stewie from Family Guy all the more.

Ahem...so, I'm sure Timo's voice, even if he had laryngitis, is a million times better than Tate's voice right now.

Jens should write a ballad about it.

"Winter Cactus"
"Move the Cactus"
"Cactus in the Air"
"Glory of the Cactus"
"Keep the Cactus"

OMFG This album is beyond amazing since day 1. The album it is still amazing me. My fav song is Stand my ground and then maybe Nemesis. That two songs are one of the best Stratovarius songs ever.

What an album...this band is now absolutely epic again.

Mighty Jörg! :

Hi, I only post to let you know that the TV Show recorded in Spain for the national TV (RNE/RTE) will be broadcasted the Thursday 18th at night.

For more information follow the rock/metal spanish program radio called "El Vuelo del Fénix".

https://www.facebook.com/elvuelodelfeni ... ts&fref=ts

From the shows that I have seen, I think that it will last more or less 30 minutes. Have a nice day!

Amaranthe is pop metal in the sense that they are a completely factory produced, color by numbers commercial metal band. They have three singers, all occupying the three primary metal stereotypical vocalists, and do everything to be as marketable as possible.

Uffff, Timo is singing excellent! Just look at this Eternity:

Wow, his vocal chords seem more relaxed! In the past he had his superblast voice, but rarely used it live as well as now. Nowadays his voice is more "deep" and less powerful and for those kind of songs Timo fits excellent.
Just compare that Eternity to the Rauma Eternity... Yes, the stage and all the things were cool, but the singing... Now seems to be more professional, and I prefer that range of voice than that high pitched voice. (your video Raziel).
Now > Before, though the popularity of Stratovarus then was top.

PS: I'm not going to enter in the discussion, but one thing is clear, Stratovarius is not a pop metal band; for 1 "light" song that Strato has, 50 melodic metal songs around.
And Amaranthe... For sure they are good, but their short , straight forward and "lack of creativity" + musical effects in every song,... They are good on the stage, but for me it's a bit artificial. The word for me is not perhaps "pop", maybe "artificial".
I am not going to be as critic as the fellows : Amaranthe is good (better on the stage than in the album), just a bit "artificial"

OMFG that performance sounds great!

It's true, now he tries so sing more relaxed and not that high. In fact, that super high notes caused him to suffer too much. Of course he should sing high, but let's remember that a singer needs to relax his voice, if not, he will not be able to sing anymore. He has improved a lot his low ranges, and for example, he sings the ballads better than before imo.
