Alestorm used to have an awesome name before they we're signed to Napalm Records, they we're named Battleheart. I loved that name.

For me the price goes to the Chilean Thrash Metal Band Anal Destructor. I've never heard their music but the name is awesome

I'd say that best metalband names are Stratovarius and Sabaton.

Never really thinked about metal band names too much, but Sonata Arctica is an awesome name.
Here are some of the names that I can remember at the moment:

Ayreon (they are not metal, but nvm), HammerFall, Queen (yeah, I know they are not metal, but sorry, I must mention them), Nightwish, Rhapsody, Twilightning, Bloodbound is cool, Avantasia, The Poodles (cute ), NightFall (there are more bands with this name, but I listen to only our, Serbian, band ), Gamma Ray is so cool name, Wig Wam is awesome , Delain, Dream Asylum, Helloween, Silent Force, Royal Hunt, Freedom Call , Lunatica, Symphony X...

Some of them are cool when you translate them, and some are just cool, without translation.

I have read that AC/DC actually stands for Anti-Christ/Devils Child.... that's pretty badass.
