or maybe it waits with its entire troopers of spiders under your bed, waits for attack, until you watch under it

Warrior of Hell, you remind me of Schacky, the guitarist from my band... Everytime he sees something crawling of flying or whatever, he takes his guitar, screams and runs out of the rehearsal room, until me or our drummer killed it

I always have a great time when this happens. Last time, he ran away from a moth

Even after all this spider hating/fearing posts i have yet to see a logical reason as to why some of you are scared to death of them...

there's something called "phobia", ya know? An irrational fear to something?

Spiders are just creepy, crawly, ugly things that sneak around&some give a very painful bite. Actually, they are very beneficial to the environment by killing insects that may be harmful, especially to plants. some people keep the big trantulas as pets. I don't think so! :D I'll just keep my chickens, thank you! :D To each their own, I guess! :)

I see...is just, when you say "people who are scared to death" you are describing a phobia...

but now I understand what you mean.

Hi!
This topic caught my eye, because I used to really live in Australia and actually collected spiders as a kid. My father's work took our family overseas in 1988. We moved to Sydney, Australia in September 1989 and as a 12-year old kid, I became enormously interested in spiders. :w00t: I became fascinated by the diversity of plant and animal life in Australia. That country houses hundreds of species of snakes and spiders, many of them very venomous. For example, the Sydney Funnel Web spider is considered to be one of, if not the most deadly spider in the world. Small children have died within just a few minutes of being bitten by the male funnel web. The female's bite does not kill a person, but medical treatment is always recommended.

I never saw the funnel-web spider when I lived in Sydney. Our family only lived there for about 4 months, after which we moved to Perth. I grew up in Perth in Western Australia, and saw, collected and examined numerous species of spiders. Australia also has the redback spider which is a geographical variant of the black widow mentioned earlier. The redback is venomous, and medical treatment is necessary. Antivenom is available for both the funnelweb and the redback, as well as for bites of different species of snakes. The antivenom has saved many lives in the last decades. These substances are a fairly recent medical discovery, proved effective only through years of research, experimentation and willingness of people.

I could go on and on, raving about spiders and other animals, and about Australia or whatever. I might post some websites here about Australia's spiders or other animals if someone is interested. I don't really know many sites. One might try with Google.

But I really loved those creatures. I definitely did NOT have arachnophobia. I hated and still do hate ants, bees and wasps though. :yuk: Those things we have in Finland too. Bees, ants and wasps are insects, though, which spiders are not. Spiders are arachnids, having more in common with scorpions and such. However, I don't really know for sure  ...at this age...I've probably become a bit more neurotic :err: and scared over the years, having gone through a lot of experiences, many of which unpleasant.

I

One good thing about Winter is that spiders go into some sort of suspended animation in cold weather---unless they are inside your house&have found a cozy little spot. :err:

Yes, that spider that gave him the heeby-jeebies just might still be alive--somewhere--maybe in his closet. Spiders love closets.
