dirge the dj...

Post by dirge » Thu Aug 03, 2006 6:12 pm

Hey guys, I am dj'ing in my local rock bar in just over a weeks time and i'm very nervous as I have never dj'd before. What I was wondering, was for some song suggestions. I am going to be playing a mixture of power metal, some classic rock and some cheesey 80's rock.
How about Angra's - Acid Rain for an opener maybe?
Let me know any suggestions, you might have!
Cheers, dirge!

Be glad that you play rock in a bar, so you don't have to worry about beatmatching.. i guess there won't be much people dancing, right ?

I find song suggestions pretty useless, so: I'd start off with some evergreens, some more soft songs, then some harder songs (still evergreens and known songs), then you can just play around a bit, and see what works (look, what the crowd enjoys), and as it's getting later, i'd play some harder metal songs, whatever works.

What's your setup ? Do you play different CD's, do you use vinyl or even a PC ?

I agree with Dave. So I also suggest to start the program with more soft things (like aor and melodic hard rock)and then make the sound more heavy. (by playing heavy/speed/power metal e.t.c.)

Every thursday in my local rock bar one of the regulars does a guest dj set, this time its my turn! :) So i'm gonna teach the metal heads the way forward is power metal! 8)

Bring as many CDs as you can and don't rely much on prepared playlist (if you're gonna prepare one) ... Pay attention to the crowd, mix known and unknown things ...

When I know, that I'll just have a CD-player at the location, i always burn some prepared playlist on CD, and play that.
Changing CD's takes too much time.

I hate CD-DJ-sets though, vinyls or PCs are more flexible.
