"An attacker could take advantage of the flaws by hosting a specially crafted MIDI file on a Web site or sending that file in an HTML e-mail, [...] "
... and gain complete and unrestricted access to the machine (hey, of course -- same old story. Business usual with Microsoft!!
)
Just imagine how many bugs are still there to exploit..
Jens.

"DirectX flaws put Windows systems at risk"
I think what they really mean is
"Installing Windows puts Windows systems at risk"
I have a theory as to why Windows is so buggy. It must be Steve Jobs who break in at night and alters the code.

There are thousands of bugs in any given Windows. One more, one less, who cares ... And whoever is stupid enough to download MIDI files that came as an attachment to e-mail from unknown source or to download anything that cannot be trusted, deserves being hacked.

Well, if they fixed all the bugs, you'd never have to upgrade. Duh!

One more security hole
Now it seems to me that the savest way to disable other people to access to your own machine, is to put it in a digitcode protected small dark room with no network, no CDrom, no floppy disk !
and here are back to the Stone Age

Yeah, I'm thinking about changing to Linux...Windows is so full of bugs that Bill Gates should be driving a volkswagen buggy...a love buggy,perhaps?
THanks for the warning, Jens!

Micro-fucking-soft rocks! I just sent them an e-mail where I explained how to make their systems look more stable. Just remove the error reports! I'm sure they will use this trick with their next windows release, you'll see!

I think Windows would have no bugs if its programmers weren't bugs themselves.

I do it sometimes. But I have anti-virus/firewall software, Ad-aware, and I also check for security updates regularly, so it's quite safe.
