You bet it is a lifestyle to me! Metal has helped me through some of my bleakest moments in my life and I can't imagine my life without it anymore.

Well, since most of my friends are Metal fans I can say it has helped my social life considerably! :D ;)

Also, I love the clothes&jewelry,Tattoos&peircings, long hair, that go hand in hand with Metal(shallow, I know, but I love it!). Plus, the energy, the effervesence, the sexuality&booze that goes at times with the Metal lifestyle keeps my otherwise dreary blue collar life fresh, fun&exciting!:headbang::beer:
Ther is also a closeness that exists within the Metal community that can't be faked, or hidden. I know other music genres are the same. The Music is a tie that binds&is never forgotten!

When I am 60 years old I'll still be a Heavy Metal Mama-wearing my rock T-shirts, drinking beer, and listening to my Strato, Megadeth,&Ironmaiden CDs!Etc...;) The Metal spirit keeps a body&mind young---I'll be a Metal Maniac til the day I am lowered into the ground 6 Feet under, never to dance anymore! :D *Wonder if there is Heavy Metal in the afterLife?*

In a way both. The music itself is just a genre of music of course. And i dont think that i like and accept anything that is considered metal, in fact some aspects are rather stupid. On the other hand i think that metal had an influence on my way of thinking and also on my appearance, although i dont look like a standard metalhead (but still easy to recognize)...

I think its good music with a bunch of great musicians and many many great fans which make it always easy to enjoy, on concerts and so on... i dont think that it is everything that defines me though.

Heavy metal, is, besides a music genre ( obviously!), one of the most important acts of my life. I mean, I consideer myself a normal person, with normal worries and I have a normal life. But¡ I realized that many people even younger than me hast to refuse, to renounce to his "metalness", because of a good job, or they want to stablish a family, or any other reason. So they chose and after a certain time, they still listen metal, but in public, they denie that! I always have been interested in these subjet, as , with a few exceptions, my old partners are now " good people" and I am the black sheep, although my life is stablished, ,with my own family, long hair, and wearing denim and leather ( thanks Biff for the song title! ). But sometimes I feel I am a really strange person because of it... :P

What I always think is that metal is one of the music genres that most influences people who really listen it. I mean, along with the old punkies and possibly the rappers and hip hop fans, it´s a kind of music that has certain rituals if you want to call so, and a really well known image that the rest of people inmediately recognize.

Good point, definitely, Shurik! ;)

After my last post, I know it sounds contradictory--I do not mean it to be--but, a person can truly like Heavy Metal music and not buy into the other "trappings". I mean, a person can look like a right-wing conservative, straight-laced individual(and even act like one)&still love the Metal music genre. Looks can be deceiving.

It infuriates me when arrogant know-alls judge other people&say shit like,"You are not Metal". :eyes: For Pete's sake, you who say this, you do not live in that person's skin, so don't elevate yourself to the level of God! :D Does Metal have a Bible or something? :eyes:
To be faithful to the music&bands, I think, is the taletale sign of a true follower&fan of Metal--its not about outer appearances, morals, or behavior--its all about the attitude and love for the music!:)

And all I said is just my opinion! :)

I stopped wearing anything that could be defined as "metal outfit" app. at the age of 19, since then I wear what I think is comfortable. Wearing a black shirt and black jeans is kinda difficult here, when 9 months per year there's 30+ here ... Since then when someone learns that I listen to metal, they say: "I never would've thought, you don't look like a metalhead" :)

You can consideer arrogant, I don´t know it really. I don´t judge other people because of their image, or if they weare jeans and leather or not...(please read again my last post as I am not attacking you, oK?; if you recognize yourself in what I wrote, is not my problem;I just put my opinion) in fact 90% of my friends don´t like Metal at all, and nothing happens! I don´t take care of it. But it makes me laugh the people who says " I like metal", "I listen heavy metal" and then in public they refuse to accept it because it´s not a good thing for their reputation ( "oh man, you know my boss, my girlfriend, my parents, blablabla)...
In my job I have to wear suit and a bloody tie most of the times, but I didn´t cut my hair at all ( yes, I admit I am lucky about that), and have a stablished family and a good job!. For me to have all this is not a reason to denie all what I feel and like in public. Everybody knows in my place I love heavy metal, and I am proud of it like other people loves Real Madrid or Julio Iglesias ! At weekends of free days I wear my old jeans and my leather jacket if it´s winter, and in summer a short and that´s all! so simple, I take my wife and my kid and if someone doesn´t like, fuck off! I still go to music shops to buy the cds, don´t like to download even if it´s cheaper, and I don´t consideer myself a God because of it, I am a normal man with a normal life ,but I have been pissed off by many "true metalheads" that now are all the opposite they were time ago.... These are the people I am refering to.
By the way, I don´t like Manowar....
It´s quite difficult for me to say exactly what I want, as my english level is not really high, so I apologize if you can´t catch the meaning of what I wrote above.

Just my HUMBLE opinion, BEG.

:?: :?: :?: Huh? Gon, I was not referring to you in any way! :D I had not even read your post!
All I said basicly, is that you can't judge a book by its cover. I think you&I are in agreement, actually!
And, yes, unfortunately, even in USA there are people who do not understand the Metal lifestyle&some people are so put off by the music that a person has to lie. For example, if a person has a boss who hates Metal, it would be in a persons best interest to hide that they are Metal fans because even in 2004 some people are so narrowminded they do not understand Metal.
Gon, I don't think you ever judged anyone "not Metal"--that was what I called arrogant--someone who judges someone else&assumes things about them. I don't think you did that. ;)
