What kind of keyboards or piano do you have??

Here musicians can talk to each other about making music etc. Of course if you are not a musician you are still welcomed to this board, but the topics should somehow be about making music.

What kind of keyboards or piano do you have??

Post by dupinguez »

I have two yamaha keyboards : a DGX-300 very good sound but few
possibilities
a PSR-225 my first one so full of great memories

And I have the chance to have (or at least that my mother have  )
a real piano : Euterpe half-queued : simply beautiful

And you?????

I have a Yamaha PSR something or other (cant remember the exact code) I got it second hand for about 150 pounds so its not too bad, nothing wrong with it either! Admittedly i suck donkey balls but mleh, I know a few chords and scales so I can at least write some stuff

CASIO CTK-691. Not a big time but sounds cool enough for my modest demands. Plus Hohner recorder, a no-name classic guitar and a Sennheiser E835 mike. Plus my ability to turn nothing into something at least unusual :)

The piano is at my parents' house, it's a Steinway upright... I miss that piano!
And my keyboard is a Yamaha PSR-290...

You know what I REALLY want? A keytar! So badly! Plus it's hard to move about onstage when you're stuck to this keyboard. It would be fun to loosen up and move around with the guitar players! (If any of you have a keytar for sale...)

Yea, it's awesome! Too bad I can't steal it and put it in my apartment, hehe... Well I can hardly fit my keyboard up and down the stairway, nevermind a piano!
But yea, I miss that piano. I always play it as much as I can when I go to my parents' house; I don't want to lose strength in my fingers since I don't have a weighted keyboard here....

It would be fun to have a piano onstage w/ my metal band, but ... that would be too much! Besides, we use all these different sounds. But there are some songs with a piano sound that would sound awesome if we were to mic it.
Well, there ain't enough time to get THAT organized before tomorrow night's show, heh...

What does that word mean? You mean like Jens has his keys so that the crowd can see it? It's called show-off!

I like the piano sound even in very heavy songs sometimes it can put a
very dark touch on it, or it can sometimes be very quiet and beautiful,
exactly what metal can be : very versatile (is this an english word???).
Have you seen the X-Japan show in tokyo?? They play in a big stadium
and the keyboard player plays with a very beautiful kawai made of glass
or whatever : incredible!!! But VERYYYYYYYYY expensive.

And i also think vertical keyboard is to show to the crowd what you play
----> very fast and hard solos tempo 720!!!

Sometimes my mother totally hallucinate when she hears me playing some Stratovarius or Nightwish songs with my real piano she says "WTF are you doing??? Play your Bach Prelude n°9 instead of gna gna gna"(she says not exactly wtf...).
And sometimes I dream to be able to put distortion to the piano and play War For Territory as an answer, would be very funny.

Well as TwilightSymphony said, it's just personal taste. Like, what you're more comfortable with.

It's difficult to play fast things standing up when you have a flat keyboard; it's just an awkward position because your wrists are bent in this weird way. I have to get a tilted keyboard stand sometime, because i'm playing more and more gigs with my band and it's getting very uncomfortable! So for the moment I have to have my (flat) stand up really high so my wrists don't have to bend so much.

But then there are probably lots of people who don't mind or prefer playing n a flat stand. It's just personal taste, again!
I like playing flat when i'm sitting (its like being at a piano), but standing up and playing flat kind of bugs me.

The stand that that Jens uses looks like this.
Image
He puts the keyboard backwards on the upper "shelf" which is tiltable.
I had been thinking of where to get one of those tiltable stands until one day when I looked at a picture of Jens when I realized that I already had one of those. :P

Then there are those REALLY tilted ones. Tuomas' Korg (the red one, I think it's a Karma, yea? Can't remember the model) is on a REALLY low stand. I mean.... fucking LOW, at least in recent shows. It was about knee-level. Jesus.
