Which one of these actors who have portrayed Jesus come close, in your opinion?

Image
Jeremy Sisto(1999)"Jesus"

Image
Willem DaFoe"Last Temptation of Christ"

Image
Brian Deacon(1985)"Jesus" The most watched&sold Jesus movie of all--over 2 BILLION Worldwide.

Image
Max Von Sydow(1964) "The Greatest Story Ever Told" A Classic!

Image
Jeffrey Hunter(1962)"King of Kings"

Image
Jonathan Scarfe(2004)"Judas" Dubbed the Beach-bum Jesus....

Image
Christian Bale(2001)"Mary, Mother of Jesus" Dubbed--the Jesus for Modern Times.

Image
Victor Garber "Godspell" Dubbed--The Hippie Jesus

Image
Robert Powell(1972)"Jesus of Nazareth"

Image
Glenn Carter "Jesus Christ Superstar"

So, what do YOU think he loked like?
IMO, he had to have been very big, strong&strapping to endure all the torture he suffered.
I did not include the latest Jesus of The Passion of Christ because I think we all know what he looked like.
There wre probably other actors-but, these most common.

None of them, as they all look way too european. I read about a study and there was said that due to the geographical and historical facts we know about Jesus, it could be assumed that he didnt looked like the european idealisations at all, which are mainly based on the renaissance pictures that were done, showing Jesus as some kind of nobleman.

This here is the picture taken from that study, sorry, i couldnt find a better version:

I dont know how serious this elaboration is, but i think its true,
seems to be kinda logical to me...

He was described as having "olive skin". That much i know as fact. Probably everything else could be inferred by researching lifestyles at that time. For example, what hairstyles were considered appropriate, and which were practical for the profession of carpentry; the shaving habits of men and tools available in those times, and so on.
Let no man surrender so long as he is unwounded and can fight.

Does it really matter? The physical is merely there to enable the manifestation of the spiritual, especially in the case of a prophet...

Cheers,

D.

PS: I agree with Twilight, by the way, that all known depictions of Jesus are a little too European. Jeremy Sisto and Jeffrey Hunter even look like red-bearded Viking thugs. American cinema manages to make a Jewish prophet look like Leif Ericsson, without the silicon help of Dr. 90210. A big hand please! But then again, if they are capable of turning a black boy by the name of Michael Jackson into a white woman by the name of Diana Ross, I guess everything is possible. The Jesus that I grew up with is Robert Powell, who at least managed to convey a sense of compassionate regality. Nevertheless, I think Cuba Gooding Jr or Denzel Washington could do just as good a job, if they were given the chance by Hollywood.

Actually, Damien, you are RIGHT ON!!! It does not matter--that was the point of the topic. ;)

It does not matter what mask Hollywood gives to the man that is thought of to be the Messiah&Savior of the world&at least, the sage who spoke words of wisdom that are valid even for today......What matters is that the words he spoke are at least given to us, even through a sometimes shallow medium as Hollywood, and we know they are true&great words, and advice to live by! If we can....
Even athesists acknoweldge there was a Jesus....who knew&spoke great things!
Whatever...
We must not take Him or his teachings lightly...whoever we perceive him to be. :)

If Jesus really looked like that, you can bet he had plenty of women followers! =P :twak: to me!
Now when I go outside I'll probably get hit by a lightning bolt! :err:

Seriously, it says his hair was likened to a Ripened chestnut---but it does not say the shell, which is dark brown.....or the nut itself which is yellowish ??? And, I still say he was a big, tall strong man.

But, his message is what counts, sure. Thats another thing--there were no amps or mikes in those days, so JC had to have had a booming loud voice for those crowds to hear him, and those type voices usually comes from big people! It is believed the Sermon on the Mount was heard by up to 5-10 thousand people.....lots for those days considering folks had to walk to get to the arena, which was usually just a elevated rock where JC stood to preach.

Like Arnold Schwarzenegger, aka Conan the Republican...?

This is nonsense, of course. The entire idea behind Mount Calvary or Golgotha and the bearing of the cross was that it was no mere pleasure cruise. It was hard and nigh impossible for a normal man to drag that heavy wooden cross all the way up there. So, the last thing Jesus would have been was a big burly bloke or a thug. He would not have been a short or weak man either, just a normal man of normal posture who was condemned to endure this ordeal through the evil in the world. And he managed to endure it, even though he was not Conan or, to stay in the biblical realm, Samson. That is the part of Jesus that inspires people, his strong belief in the potential of humanity and his willingness to take a load on his shoulders that was so immense it would have made an ox flinch.

Cheers,

Damien
