Have the guys lied about the band's name origin? Because they told about the mix of the words Stratocaster (guitar) and Stradivarius (violin), but take a look at what I've found from a band called Kraftwerk:

Re: Did They Lie About the Name Origin?!?!?!?
I think I heared of Kraftwerk. It´s a german Band that makes a kind of electric music. It´s Techno-music or something.
But I don´t know why they have a song called Stratovarius.
Strange...

That's interesting, indeed. But I think they didn't rip it on purpose, and not try to hide it . Maybe it's pure coincidence. I wonder what Tolkki or others would say?

Re: Did They Lie About the Name Origin?!?!?!?
I read somewhere that the word "stratovarius" means,"above the heavens" in chinese......
For the Millionth time, Tolkki did NOT come up with the bands name--Strato existed a couple years or so before Tolkki came along---Tolkki did NOT found Stratovarius......even though he is the longest existing member.
Some people can't get that fact in their head!

Excellent choice---I think Stratovarius sounds better&is more "catchy" than Black Water.....also, there was a band already titled, Black Water, so the name was changed to avoid confusion, I guess.

Re: Did They Lie About the Name Origin?!?!?!?
Stradivari is the name of the creator of the instrument (actually Signore Stradivari, italian), and the name of the violin was inspired in his name, then called Stradivarius or Stradivarium, and including the band members call it so (check the FAQ in the official page). But maybe it doesn't have the same name in all the world, of course, but I guess not. All the times I heard to talk about the instrument I heard one of that two names I wrote.Beast_Pete wrote:It's Stradivari, not 'varius. varius is a little bit latinic.StratoHeart wrote:

Re: Did They Lie About the Name Origin?!?!?!?
When Tolkki was last time in television here in Finland (it was Top 40 -program), he mentioned about that band and that song.
I don't think they take that name from Kraftwerk's song, because Tolkki said nothing about taking the new name for Black Water from that song.

Re: Did They Lie About the Name Origin?!?!?!?
I asked some people (in Hungary), and they said, it was Stradivari. Dunno. We should ask Stradivari himself.

Actually it was Antonio StradivariStradivari is the name of the creator of the instrument (actually Signore Stradivari, italian)
no problem... 'Signore' is just the Italian for 'Mr.' And we often omit the final 'e' and say 'Signor Something'.
