It's a matter of personal taste but in my opinion:
Stratovarius: Episode & Visions
Queensryche: Operation Mindcrime
...and then some 100 more.

AND THE KEY TO THE UNIVERSE IS BOOGA BOOGA!!

I think these should be considered as Masterpieces, perfect albums IMO:
1. Visions - Stratovarius
2. Keeper of the Seven Keys Pts 1 & 2
3. Avantasia I & II
4. Land of the Free - Gamma Ray
5. Somewhere in Time - Iron Maiden

Ehm...
1. Stratovarius ~ Visions
2. Stratovarius ~ Episode
3. Dream Theater ~ Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory
Of course there are a lot of good metal-albums in the world, but maybe those are best.
EDIT: I have to change 3th album. Nightwish's Once is great, but it's not anymore so good as it was when I wrote that first message.

God. I can't do this.
Okay, i can.
Luca Turilli's Prophets of the Last Eclipse. Limited audience, great album.
Savatage......Dead Winter Dead.
Abstrakt Algebra's self-titled album is great too.

Some of the coolest I'd say are
Iced Earths Iced Earth and The Dark Saga
Maidens Live After Death
Children of Bodoms Something Wild
And if you count Rush as metal (some do some don't) Hemispheres

Impossible to say only one: i can list one hundred minimum!
but as a example:
The Number of the Beast
Made In Japan
Master of Puppets/Ride The Lighting ( I can´t choose only one...)
Rust In Peace
Reign In Blood
Back In Black/Highway to Hell
Visions
Appetite for Destruction
Keeper I & II
Defenders of the Faith
Screaming for Vengeance
Painkiller
Piece of Mind
Powerslave
Balls To the Wall
Metal Heart
Love At First Sting
Avantasia (I)
No Sleep ´til Hammersmith
I must stop. the list is too long. It´s hard to choose only a few albums, imagine only one!

I would almost say Ayreon - The Human Equation. It is the best album ever, but not really a metal album, more a kinda rock opera with metal influences.
So I choose:
Iron Maiden - Somwhere in time
Ozzy Osbourne - No more tears
Powermad - Absolute Power
Star One - Space Metal ( :banana1: )
With great power, there must also come great responsibility! (Peter Parker)
