On the other hand i think Timo should do this song because we have to keep the memory alive and nobody should forget what cruelty hitler did .
HA HA. I can imagine it. I totally agree.

So Dave. I think soulforged meant that "Why not letting Tolkki say what he believes in this song". I think you misunderstood his words :)

I would not care if they had a song called Hitler, what's the problem?

And now I'm not saying Hitler's deeds are acceptable blaah blaah blaah... I'm just interested, since I don't know any band, that has done a song about him. It's also very promising to hear lyrics by Tolkki not concerning universe, happiness, or freedom. ;)
My thoughts EXACTLY. The whole freedom/being your own boss/universe/save the world stuff that TT's been writing on the last 3 albums is ok, but getting repetitive. I didn't really care much for the lyrics of Elements I and Infinite, because I just don't find that kind of stuff interesting. Especially not when there are 10 songs on the same subject.

Elements 2, however, was already a step for the better. For me Alpha & Omega is Strato's best song since Eternity, even lyricwise.

I'm wondering why 'ol Tjabo has not came here yet to make a few smart cracks---maybe they finally found a way to keep him off here.

It is a very sad thing that there can be made films, books and documentaries about Hitler, but then when I make a song out of a subject that has intersted me since I was 14, comes all this fuss.
I wrote this song already 1,5 years ago.

Timo, if all that fuss you mentioned prevents this song from reaching the new album, will us fans be able to hear it at some point anyways? I can speak for most of us when I say it is something we would like to hear regardless of whether the record company deems it inappropriate for release.

You took the words right out of my mouth, Big Guy!:? If these rapper dudes&antigovernment bands can make songs promoting violence&Hitleristic themes, why can't someone write a song AGAINST those things? Isn't free speech for EVERYONE? :eyes:

Yep, unfortunately censorship is still here... Sometimes I think we're back in Middle-Age. Anyway I hope the song can be released as it is.

Have you heard about that rap band, that wrote a "song" about the Tsunami? Well, it was horrible. Just read this. And people still don't want the Hitler song to be published?

And noone (besides the people that run that site) is comoplaining about that? Is everyone here as confused on that as I am?

There are numerous songs about Hitler (and his henchman too) and I haven't seen those been banned yet.

And they are making a fuss over TTs song? :eyes: What is the world coming to ?

The things at those links would be in the US, where free speech is more simple -- pretty much everything is just allowed. :) Things are more complicated in Germany. You throw starting a couple of world wars and 75 million dead in the mix, it becomes understandable.

I do not think the material in question would be considered illegal. The label just presented a legal argument to advance an emotional one. That pissed me off at least (I know it pissed TT off as well).

After the end of the war, the Allies insisted on laws like this in Germany (restricting free speech) because they were worried Nazism would rise again. To see the letter of those laws used in a way that directly disagrees with the spirit of them..... pisses me off.

But the more I think about it I can understand the emotional angle. I feel there is still a lot of German guilt. To me that is wrong. We should all feel bad about it. Hitler was a human who just happened to be born in Austria, so he happened to speak German. To me it really is that simple. Germany is completely irrelevant to the issue.

I'm not really a pacifist, but that the world wars could spread as wide as they did was just a monumental fuckup. Civilization really was pretty close to a complete breakdown. That huge disaster is worth a song as a little reminder, and the song was worth a fight to make it as emotionally powerful as possible. If we have to be on page two of Iltasanomat together with Adolf then so be it. I have faith people would understand the difference between "anti-Nazi" and "Nazi" even if they both happen to contain the letters "Nazi".

I guess there is always going to be unhappy people taking their anger out on the world through some group like the Nazis, or, as in the South USA, the Militia movement. And, we do not want these groups rising up again en masse--I don't think they will, of course--but, small groups of this type people can raise havoc--the Oklahoma City bombing for example&the Randy Weaver incident. So, I hope TT gets to do his song.
Disgruntled people, especially teens&young adults, need to realize
if they feel rejected/outcast in society these groups are not ones to join just to fit in! Nazism, after all, is a cult&cults of any kind are usually bad news for all concerned.
BTW, I read in a magazine a couple years back that there was an upsurge in people "joining" Nazi groups in Europe. Is that true, or a bunch of Bullshit rumors? I know in USA people in anti-government&Nazi groups number estimated about a million people at least.
All this is very interesting discussion&I think this subject needs to be debated&discussed.
In the USA, The Southern Law&Poverty Center in Alabama tries to keep tabs on these groups and its a full time job--because it is compared to a Hydra--as quick as one group is dismantled, 2 or 3 others spring up to take its place.

No, personally I do not think another incident like WW2(Hitler) will happen, but small groups can do damage&cause sorrow/misery for people with their violence and hate.

Yeah it's sad but true... One of those even tried to assasinate the French president some years ago.

Ther'es much worse... Like this fuckin racist/xenophobic/fascist/whatever party who now makes about 10/15 % votes at each elections. And his candidate even got second at the 2002 presidential elections... When you think Hitler also came to power by votes, it's a bit frightening.

Yeah, that guy Le Pen freaked me out too. And there was another one in the Netherlands too, but he got murdered I believe. And over here, some portuguese politicians are also becoming quite radical about some stuff, like the entry of foreigners in the country, and there have been proofs that the Government has been pressuring the media.
