Little Mixing Update

Post by TimoTolkki » Thu Mar 31, 2005 1:45 am

Hello EveryOne,

I hope you all are doing well.
Just wanted to drop you off with a few lines from the studio.
I have been mixing for about 2 weeks now and I feel very nice about
the songs.
As you all may know, this album has not been born the usual way.
In fact, almost everything has been different this time.
Some of the songs have been very hard to mix (and the annoying parking garage construction under the studio with huge explosions every day adding the "flavour") and some have been easy. The material sounds
fresh and new, some people will be quite surprised I must say.
Few time ago I was playing some new material to our record label in Berlin and they seemed to like the new stuff a lot. They described one of the song as "a football anthem", which was news to me since I don´t understand why some people make so much fuss about a ball.
I mean, it is just a ball. It´s round and sometimes colourful, but would it make me to run after that? No it would not. I guess I am more into hugging trees these days and I must say I prefer birches. I cannot wait for the leaves. Oh sorry, back to the drawing boards...
Yeah, soon we will release some news regarding what is going to happen later this year. Rest assured, that this year will see a comeback of Stratovarius and the tour we will play will be quite extensive. They are booking it as we speak. I heard we already sold out some shows in Canada!!! This is even before we have announced the tour :) What can I say, thanks a lot for your support!! It´s been a rough year for all of us, but all is fine now.
I´ve been reading a book called "The Manual of the Warrior of Light" by Paulo Coelho.
What a fantastic book and writer! I can heartily recommend. His books have helped me a lot in the recordings and in the mix and I have also received a lot of spiritual assistance from ET (who is with me in the studio). Just kidding :D
I wish you all a very nice spring time (and autumn in the other side of the globe) and we are all looking forward seeing you!

All the best, Timo

Hi !

I heard some "reviews" about the new material, and apparently people (at least Jens and Kotipelto) seems to like it !

Perhaps you can use those parking explosions in the studio ?
That could be a sort of good "symbol", if you think of what Stratovarius faced last year. Something like "all the blasts didn't kill us. the album is here !" :-)

About the ball thing, it's one mystery of human being.
They seem totally crazy of those games, and some of them are ready to kill some other people just because they don't support the same teams. This is bullshit!!!
But if you think of it, those "ball" games were invented a long time ago, to entertain people. Just like those "circus" fights in arenas with leons & tigersn or like bull-fighting. Ball games are stupid, but still they have more sense than those stupid games in which the aim is to kill people or animal.

Paulo Coelho. I don't agree with it, as I really didn't like "The Alchimist", but perhaps those books are good to read in certain circonstances.
(I think I read "The Alchimist" when I was in Russia, between life and death because of alcohol. not good memories !)

Take care, and if ET wants to call home, teach him to say from now "Nokia, home!" 8)

Timo, why don't you start the album with 2 or 3 minutes of drilling, recorded under your studio? Good luck with the rest of the album, see you next time in The netherlands!!

I've read this book too, i've liked it personaly, but i think it depends of the people about their feelings when they read these books.
Anyway, this book has helped me too by the past.

@Timo Tolkki, welcome here, it's always good to read you, the good news about the new material Stratovarius stuff. All the fans look forward the album for sure. :)
Glad to know too, that you're feeling well! :)

A friend of mine has lived a kind of "funny" story because of the madness of football fans.
He was in paris at night , totally drunk and said "fuck psg" (which is paris football team) and immediatly five big guys got out of their home and said "who said that we're gonna kill him right now" and he just ran away (which is a strato song).

These fans are just out of their minds...

And a very good one :D Anyway, I agree about football fans being out of their minds, during the '98 World Cup in France it went VERY violent, when english and german supporters get full of beer it's no good being in-between :D

Hei TT!

Nice to read these updates! I hope the new album will be released soon, I'm really anxious! :)

I've also read Coelho's "The Manual of the Warrior of Light" some years ago, and yes, I liked it and also helped me in some "dark" times, but I think it all depends on the mood of the reader at the time of reading. I also read other Coelho's books, including The Alchemist, and I can say I also liked them, they are easy to read and with positive "feeling" at the end.

yeah, good idea, and loud explosions between the songs :)

Timo, what about restarting your web-page, it would be great place to discuss topics connected with books, thoughts, ideas etc. like it was in the past. Chaplin speech, though very wise and up-to-date, is well known by now, thanks to you.

The motion has been seconded, now we must vote on it! I vote aye!!

Fortunately, i live in the only country that's not completely football obsessed, so i managed to miss out on that little virus. I used to watch the Fenerbahce with a consort of mine, though, he was quite obsessed with them.

It seems likely that the tour won't make it too terribly close to my locale, which is a good thing because palm trees are far less enjoyable to hug than birches.
