Stratovarius on U.S. radio! (This is not a joke!)

Hi everyone.

This evening, for the first time ever, Stratovarius was heard on mainstream rock radio airwaves.

Now, give me a chance to explain how this happened.

When I moved to the town I currently live in, I became friends with many of the rock radio station DJs here in the town. Ever since I got here, practically, I have been hoping for a metal show of some kind. Apparently I was not the only one who asked for a metal show, for we finally got one in late January! When the DJ who hosts the show first started, he was not very knowledgeable about metal music, so he asked for my help. He knew that I listened to many metal bands from all over the world, and encouraged me to send him as many of these bands as I could. I made him many CDs, Stratovarius being among the many bands I put on these CDs (but of course!).

So tonight (April 1st), for the first time on Hammer's Hard Rock Sanitarium, Stratovarius was played. The song was "Soul of a Vagabond". Now, I'm not sure if this will get me positive or negative feedback, but for those of you who live in the States and never thought it possible for a band like Stratovarius to get attention on a radio station (and this is not a college radio or internet radio station---this is an honest-to-goodness, on-your-dial radio station!), here is your proof that it is possible! And for those of you who are glad of it, more good news: you can request more songs for the show! However, the bad news is that there is currently not an internet stream of the radio station (that is still being worked on at the moment), but if anyone requests anything and it is played, I will be sure to update you all on it.

For those of you who aren't too happy about it, don't be too discouraged---this is a metal-only show and Stratovarius is only played during the metal show. They will not all of a sudden become sandwiched between Linkin Park and all those other mainstream bands. They are played with fellow metal bands such as Judas Priest, Cradle of Filth, Six Feet Under, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, and many, many others.

I sent these songs over before I knew Strato would be touring the States later this year, but now I think this will be a great way to get the word out to fellow metalheads (at least in my area) about the tour and hopefully sell Strato a few more tickets, because that can never be a bad thing!

There is no internet stream so I'm afraid you would not be able to listen to it unless you lived in the Bakersfield, California area.

The station is 93.1 and Hammer's Hard Rock Sanitarium can be heard every weeknight from 11 p.m. to midnight (sometimes the show goes over though, there are some nights when it doesn't end until 12:30!).

Up until late '02, I lived in L.A. all my life and never had to go through Bakersfield to get to Vegas. I think you're mixing it up with the town of Baker, which is the town between Barstow and Vegas (you know, the town with the "world's largest thermometer"). However, if you're ever on your way up to Sacramento or Fresno, you can tune in to the show then, because Bakersfield is north of L.A. by about an hour and a half.

Your right... my bad...I was thinking of a different trip my family goes on every year....up to huntington lake.... we go both places so regularly that....I didnt think of which was which...lol...but none the less...I still will have to check it out next time im driving through bakersfield....lol

mmm i think its good but i hope that they dont become a super popular band and play on northamerican mtv.

Dont get me wrong i would love to see strato videos here in argentina but i would hate to see them along with avril lavinge!

I really doubt that will happen, as the city I live in is not very huge and the metal show only comes on between the hours of 10 p.m. to midnight on weeknights, which is normally not a time that a lot of people are listening to the radio. It is good exposure for Strato since they are going to be playing in the area over the next few months, but other than that I don't see them all of a sudden taking over MTV airwaves. (Not that they couldn't if they wanted to, though!)
