Meet The Sonic Firestorm - UK Tour September 2005

MEET THE SONIC FIRESTORM
UK TOUR SEPTEMBER 2005

The six headed rock beast that is the London based yet multinationally comprised DRAGONFORCE will tour the UK in September 2005.

In contrast to their summer schedule, which sees the band playing several of mainland Europe’s largest festivals, as well as a batch of stadium shows as special guests of Iron Maiden, the tour was set up with the intention of including a number of smaller, out of the way towns and venues and effectively sees the band taking their music to the kids. As guitarist Herman Li puts it:-

"On our last headlining tour we played mostly major cities. We were aware through the Forum on our website and from speaking to the fans after we had played each show that many of them were travelling a fuck of a long way to get there, some of them even flying! We didn't think this was fair as it costs them a fortune, so we decided on this tour that as far as possible we would take the band to them."

Sponsored by Metal Hammer and incorporating three small weekly London shows at The Barfly in Camden, the full list of dates (including ticket hotline nos.) for what has been dubbed the ’Meet The Sonic Firestorm’ tour is as follows:-

13.09 WOLVERHAMPTON Wulfrun Hall - 01902-552121 / www.wolvescivic.co.uk
14.09 CARDIFF University - 0161-8321111 / www.gigsandtours.com

30.09 LEICESTER Charlotte - 0116-2553956 / www.thecharlotte.co.uk

DRAGONFORCE is powered by the twin guitar assaults of Herman Li (born in Hong Kong) and Sam Totman (English), singer Z.P. Theart (South African), Vadim Pruzhanov (Ukrainian) on keyboards, plus two more Brits in bassist Adrian Lambert and drummer David Mackintosh. The sound of the group is a rare combination of various metal and hard rock styles, although the sonic fury they conjure up in no way hides their greatest strength....songwriting ability. The release of their debut album Valley Of The Damned in 2003 saw the group tour Europe, South East Asia and the Far East. A swift follow-up, Sonic Firestorm, was issued in the spring of 2004; buoyed by massive critical acclaim throughout the rock press, its release saw the band launch into a sustained period of activity that included a European tour with WASP and a first full UK headlining tour that saw most venues sold out. The band will record their third album later this year for release in early 2006.

Holy shit! I got to get to that consert! Unfortunately I live sooo faar away from England so the plain tickets are quite expensive. Do you know, htc do they play in Germany too? I mean I'd have better chance to go to see them there. Dragon Force rocks! I was wondering when someone's going start a thread about this awesome band! :headbang:

Nevertheless, I'm going to go see them in a week. They'll be opening for Iron Maiden, so I'll just be drinking while they play. And perhaps hope they sound a bit more appealing to my ears live :D

Sorry, but I paid a visit to their Forum once, a year or so ago, and lurking that 1 time turned me totally off. The things people posted about Stratovarius on that Forum made me ill, especially from a poster nicked "Spiral", and the lady Mod over there was permitting/encouraging the shit-throwing. :?
Has things changed there? Maybe I should visit again to see.
Maybe the band did not know what was going on in their own Forum-if they did, I don't think I want to listen to them. :(

Yes, they are. And I am translating the biography of this band for the official Wacken site. ;)

I'd known like 2 of theier songs, and then I've seen them couple of weeks ago and it was pretty impresive. I like power metal (yes and all that cheese) and they were rather apealing for me. I wouldn't mind seeing them once again :)

DragonForce are about as cheesy as you can possibly get. Gotta love em! They're so cheesy that they're great! :D I've seen them once before, here in London and they were very impressive, although I disagree with the 'songwriting ability' claim on the website

I'm seeing them again this summer, in Athens. Although something tells me I won't be too excited about them.

Iron Maiden are headlining that show :D

But yeah, BEHOLD THE SUPER CHEESE!!!! :D :D

Funny, because it makes me happy and want to jump and sing along :D

What can I say if the last Freedom Call album being completly cheese makes me feel so great :P

Cheese not cheese, I think it's something different (at least for me) that makes me like or dislike the music. I love Rhapsody and I don't mind listening to Swallow The Sun or old Theatre of Tragedy.

I agree :D

Rhapsody and HammerFall are ultimate cheese, but they're still kool bands (despite how most of you lot don't like em!)

I file DragonForce in my 'Guilty Musical Pleasures' folder :D

The problem is I can't take them too seriously. Maybe in the future if they started writing some songs with more understanding of dynamics, and weren't all 200 bpm, then I'd begin to listen to them with more depth.

Till then, they're my ultimate Party Music :D

Yes, Rhapsody and Hammerfall are cheesy. Hell yeah

I like Hammerfall though. And I musically like Rhapsody, although I hate their singer with a passion.

On Dragonforce, I hate the singer, I dislike the lyrics, and am annoyed by the excessive speed. I'd like something between 50bpm Doom Metal and Dragonforce, please

Speed is good, but must be used in moderation and with proper effect.. not just fast for the sake of it. I get tired of listening to them after a few songs.

NeonVomit is right...they don't respect the speed law.....

And I thought that Rhapsody overuse the dobulebeat....

Cheese is good, and their guitar/key solos rock!!! :P

Besides if they reduce their speed they wouldn't be Dragonforce anymore, they would be just like any of the 1000000000000000 powermetal bands already out there.

Same here. Saw them on the 16th supporting Iron Maiden here in Portugal. Iron Maiden were monsterkillers. Dragonforce think too high of themselves. "We're here to kick your asses, you motherfuckers!", flipping the bird at us, and all that. I threw beer at the guitar player, I was sick of him destroying his guitar's tremolo by lifting it through it.

Plus, the sound was horrible. Unlike Maiden's.

It was funny when they were opening for Iron Maiden in Athens though. People were laughing at them. I guess cheese is a drawback sometimes.

Now, if the third album is gonna be anything like the last two the novelty will begin to wear off, so they'll have to actually develop their style if they want to be taken seriously.

Horrible, horrible, horrible cheesy SHIT.

That doesnt begin to describe how cheesy and horrible dragonforce are. They are like a bad copy of a bad copy of a bad copy. Pathetic, pathetic, pathetic. Might have been exciting in 1994 but they missed the bus by something like ten years.

And the songs are fucking awful, too.

Yeah, the people at the front row (like me) here were also laughing their asses off. Some people screamed "Dragonforce, Dragonforce!" between songs, but then you'd stop hearing them when the 15k people "MAIDEN, MAIDEN, MAIDEN!" chorus began :D
