New guy here from Orlando Florida

Post by Jester » Sun Jul 17, 2005 11:46 am

Hello to all my fellow Stratofans from around the world. My name is Jesse and I live in Orlando Florida. I am 30 years old and have been playing guitar since I was 10. Eddie Van Halen inspired me to pick up the guitar during their "1984" days. Yngwie Malmsteen and Steve Vai inspired me to practice relentlessly. Orlando is a cool place to live even though right now it is very hot outside and we are now praying that this years hurricane season will not be a repeat of last years. There is alot of fun to be had here, especially if you love rollercoasters and have season passes to the Universal Studios theme parks . It is also home to the worlds largest Hard Rock Cafe. NASA is also right around the corner and no matter how many times you have seen it, it is always cool to see the shuttle take off. :D .

I got started on Stratovarius about 2 years ago. I had seen articles about them in my guitar magazines and also saw that Jens Johansson was in the band. I have been familiar with Jens for years, being an Yngwie fan. I figured any band Jens was in has got to be pretty good. I went out and got "Elements Part 1". I was in awe! I got that feeling that I hadn't got since I first heard Malmsteen or Vai, where the hair on the back of my neck was standing up. It's hard to describe but you can hear bands and go, "yeah their pretty good", or "cool" and then you hear another band and then go "WOW", "HOLY SHIT" and just be blown out of the room. It's like I was finally hearing exactly what I wanted in a band. I went out the next day and bought every Stratovarius CD I could find here in Orlando. The musicianship is amazing. Every member of the band can just flat out burn! Two other things that I think Stratovarius has over other bands with great musicians, including many of Malmsteen's post Odyssey lineups is the strength of their songs and lyrics and Timo Kotipelto who has an incredible voice. The lyrics are very uplifting.

I am happy to see Stratovarius touring America, but also sad that they wont be anywhere near Orlando. I love my country, but have been so displeased with the music scene(or lack thereof) here. America for the most part has become dumbed down musically, so the fact that Stratovarius finds it necessary to tour the states gives me some hope that things may be starting to change here :) I just hope they come to Florida on the next tour.

i hope so, i live in monterrey about 2 hours south of the border so i come to the states regularly and i find it shocking that monterrey has more strato albums than all of mcallen, it seems that the US is still stagnated by the pop bands (pretty girls who cant sing worth a damn, ashlee simspon, jessica simpson, lindsey lohan, britney, j lo, hillary duff and the list goes on and on and on...., and the godawful shit called hip hop) i hope with the strato tour things will reverse and people will have some sense hammered to their heads....

ok im done ranting have a nice day :)

Thanks for the warm welcome! I look forward to posting quite a bit here. It is cool to correspond with people all over the world. Further proof that good music brings people together.

And how cool is this, another Orlando dude. I would like to get together sometime and jam. I am in the process of moving this very weekend. Not far, I am going from Rouse Rd near 408, to Oviedo. When I get settled in I would like to get together. What suburb of Orlando do you live in, or in the city itself? Also, are you a Sam Ash guy or a Guitar Center guy? :D I will send an email to you soon.

Anyhow, thanks again to all

Jesse
