hey...I was talking about ALL bands that was canceled so I dont know why you said that i was selfish...

And yes Im sure that it is Tolkki himself that mail (on chat) to CDM (the guys that organise the shows) to cancel every opening acts... exept for Into Eternity since it is confirmed by strato on the website...

And Im also sure that strato wont play any longer because of that...

I hope for strato and the fans (and im still in the fans since i go to the show anyway) that it was for a good reason that they canceled the opeing acts... My band and every other smaller bands was waiting only for that big show to become more popular and have fun with strato, and we were anoucing that evrywhere, but now its not true anymore...

ok i understand you all that you want to protect your favorite band but think also to the small bands that become popular by playing with the big names... Strato are not very helpfull to them !

Well, you greasy elf-skinned dewberry, would you still be so outraged if you weren't scheduled to open for strato? . I think not. The people have spoken. Go away.

Hum, it seam that you dont want to understand that even strato began by opening for bigger bands...

And you are right that i wouldn't have spoken if I had never been told to open for strato because then I wouldn't have worked so hard to prepare the show for NOTHING...what is making me the most "angry" is the fact that we were preparing fot it...

anyway, you dont want to understand

yeah i agree that this topic was created in a high extrem of angryness because of the bad news and now I dont feel that i am angry against anyone but still...I just think that it was not a good idea to confirm it and months after, cancel it when all were ready...

anyway, im going to see the show in quebec with a strange feeling of "I could have been there!" but i will try to concentrate on the music...

Except for the formulation of the title of his thread, what are you reproaching him for exactly ? I am and I'll still be a Stratofan, but if it's really Tolkki's (and not the promoters') decision, I don't find it very respectful to those little bands that worked a lot for the show, which was some kind of an unique chance at the moment for them to shine.
So his complaining about it is perfectly normal, and I don't see any reason to despite him for it.

Grow up and get over it. There's things going on that are beyond you. All the bands cancelled... then maybe a management decision? Do you know the intimate details of Stratovarius' management? I think not. Do you know the ins and outs of the music industry? I've been going at it for a few years now and I've never had any illusions. The music buisiness is a BITCH. And if something like this pisses you off, then I'd hate to see how you'll react when something REALLY goes wrong.

So just be happy you were considered WORTHY of opening for Stratovarius. But, you ruined that reputation.

That is the reputation you'll have on this forum from now on. Nice work.

I agree. :)
But, Mr. Power was ignorant to bring his complaints here knowing us "blind" fans would rake him over the coals for his anger, justified or not. You don't complain about a band on a board where we fans are so devoted--you just don't.
He should have just swallowed his pride& complained, maybe just to his family or something.
Life goes on.

Good Luck, Mr. Power. Maybe next time! :)

Hi...

Dude...Before I knew of his disease...I felt like betrayed, and sad...because it was like they were doing only their jobs in the shows...and in the albums...I thought that there was no heart feelings in there...

But now that I knmow that is has this problem..we MUST understand...and we should see that he acted like a real man...And felt sorry for the mess he did...even if he was sick...than he had the crisis..

I understand him...I just hope they keep their old style songs...

Because the new album...you know  it's not that good...But UNITED is an awesome song..

Well...whatever... =)

Again, the music buisiness isn't pretty. As far as the recent interviews indicate, TT isn't in charge of managing the band anymore. That's the impression I get anyway, and I think Koti or Jens mentioned it in their interview that he's only really in charge of the musical side of stuff now. If I am wrong, please correct me.

But lets for the moment say TT did make this decision, I'm sure he had a very good reason to. If it was in Stratovarius' interest, it makes perfect sense. Really, if you were TT and you had a choice of letting the other bands play, and it would harm Strato in any way (pick the reasons why, dont ask me why you'd need to make this decision but just suppose you had to) or cancelling it for Strato's benefit, what would you do?

A good manager for a band has the band's interests above all other things. The support band/s hapiness is very secondary to anything else.

And if I remember correctly, didn't Stratovarius really help Sonata Arctica with the Infinite tour? And Thunderstone on the Elements tour? Dragonforce got A LOT of publicity when they opened for Strato. So don't say that Strato don't care about giving other good new bands publicity, they really helped these two.

But maybe TT decided (which I really don't think he decided on it, but anyway) that it wasn't in Strato's interest to have these other totally unknown bands opening for them. If he made that decision, (which is unlikely, i still think it was Strato's management, whoever is in charge of that now) then it makes perfect sense. Sure, it's not a nice decison to have to make, but as I said, the music buisiness isn't pretty.

In fact, it's downright ugly, and any aspiring to give it a shot have to know what they're getting themselves into, and expect these sorts of things to happen. For every good break you get, you endure a hundred setbacks. Jens explains it very well on his site actually. I've only been going at it for a couple of years now, not even full time (I'm still in University) but I've learnt a lot. It doesn't help to be naive.

All of us, musicians or not, are humans&make mistakes. We all deserve second(even 4thor5th)chances at life. I know we tend to give famous people more leeway when it comes to these kind of things&I think thats a shame. Everyone needs sympathy when they are troubled&sooner or later, ALL of us, idolized musicians or not, need support from others. :?

However, It's nice to have a fanbase which buoys a person up when times are hard. We are glad to help TT out in any way we can--supporting the band, buying their works&going to shows is one way. And, not give up on them--thats the biggest way. Anyone can have temporary problems in life&we all should understand each other when that happens.

But, I never felt betrayed by TT or the band during this time. Why should I? I don't own the band! :?
And, I like this new style--I'm sure it may be just experimentation&change can be good, just to try it out.

The reason we all had a go at him, myself included, was because of his attitude. 'I hate Tolkki and Stratovarius because we're not supporting them anymore blah blah' What the hell kind of a thing is that to say??

You have to admit, that's a very childish thing to say.

So are we supposed to respect him and his band after that? That's a bit of a stretch.

I think the Title of this topic is what ruffled everyone's feathers!
HATE is a strong word--he should have said "I Do not Agree with Mr. Tolkki" or something like that.

But if was childish, why come and start to say: "fuck off your band, i payed 30 bucks to see strato, not your garage band" well...thats nice too, huh? and childish, if i can say. So...thats a full LACK of respect.

Yeah, that's my interpretation! I understand the guy is disappointed, but this was not the best way to handle it IMO.

I wonder, if you contact Timo by email, then maybe you can sort it out, at least understand that the desicion was not personal toward your band...

That's what I meant...No job obligations..I mean.."oh...Sonata Arctica...we MUST push this band down and then we will rock!"

There was this kind of friendship...I guess....On the band...which is cool...

I'm not a member of the band...so...why do I care about it?

I don't know...but the stratovarius songs helped me in lots of situations...believeme...LOTS  ...And they helped me to make the right...or the less-wrong  decision about what to do...
It's a different "thank you"...Even if they don't know me...never saw my face...they helped me...so thats my way to say thank you...

I'm SURE that some of you won't understand a word...ahahha

But some people may feel the same...and they will understand...

So..no more for now...

I'll eat some popcorn...hehaheuahe...and watch some stuff on the TV...later i'll be back mates...

Like someone else said, it seems clear that Tolkki doesn't even get involved in this type of things anymore because of his illness.

I think Tolkki had NOTHING to do with it and this guy just misunderstood something, think about it, would Tolkki go around and phone around individual promoters or concert places?? The whoel idea seems completely stupid.

I think whatever this guys band "Kinslayer" is like they probably are not that good if thats the general attitude they have. "Amateur attitude". Something like this happens you shouldnt whine about it looking like a baby. Just grow up and move on. (And the name of the band makes it sound like a Nightwish copy band or someting.)

Maybe the promoter bumped them off because they sucked too much... and someone (either promoter or this dude) is trying in their mind to blame it on Tolkki.

I for sure if I hear of some band called Kinslayer I will remember that. And so will everyone else who reads this. Yeah, you did a good job promoting your band!!

I prefer that there is no moderation :P more liberty of expression, this thread would be shut down and no disccusing, thats the funcction of the forum...

its preatty stupid, the same people that were saying " Bands dont get publicity from playing in gigs blablbal" are now saying, stratovarius helped a lot sa ( wich is true ), one thing or another!

then ppl complain saying that there is now way that he could posibbly know that i was tolkki who cancelled the bands and they go and post "Im sure tolkki didnt make that called, it was someone else, go and fuck yourself "... if he doesnt know then how can you know?

I dont think that strato has the obligation to have suppot bands but if they confirmed it and then they cancelled its very rude, bands have to spend a lot of money for a gig ( equipments, publicity..ect ) .. but there is always a posibillity that the band was not involved so.. lets see

It's exactly the same for me. Strato music has uplifted me through some crappy times in my life and I still love listening to it in the happy times too. I whine about too many cheesies in the setlist, but nothing makes me feel happeir than Hunting or Black Diamond. And the lyrics of Infinite especially, always puts things into perspective.

It's no personal insult to me, if Tolkki gets ill. People get depressed all the time, all over the world. The difference is that he is in the media and we all see the bad days that the media loves to feed on like vultures. Joe Public can hide away when he feels shitty.
