ABSOLUTLY HATE IT!!!! (except beastie boys, but they at least have more music to their songs and sing about fun/funny stuff, look at Girls!, intergalactic, letter to ny, ch ch chk it out!, that kind of stuff is quite enjoyable)

but yes as cliff has said, it is hollow full of hate, commercial, incongruent, sexist, racist, gangsta (any person who believes in this should be shot! [all extremist should be taken out and shot!, from jens's page hehe  ])

here in mexico there are four trends: country/ranchera/grupera *shivers*(synonims, you kids need some culture! 8) ) which ranges from i want this girl who is the girlfrien of my _____ (friend, drug lord, boss, brother...) to "i escaped the highway patrol on my purple suburban with 10 killos of cocaine" *true song by the way, laughed my ass so hard when i thought it was a joke* to some REALLY, REALLY REALLLLYYYYYYYY stupid and idiotic stuff (el gato volador for all latinos present, read the flying cat)

, pop (you know, jessica simspon, hillary duff, ashley simspon [i only know them because i like to annoy a friend, girl by the way who likes them :8] who all follow the same formula: blonde, pretty, young, succesful *i think* moronic, and with a sense of what the more commercial of us label fashion...)

punk/rock, almost as bad as rock, one f*king riff, one chord repeatedly head banged, drums dont go beyond "tun tun tan" repeated over and over and over again, with lyrics that only 15-19 year olds in the states could somehow relate *although i doubt it* with the attitude i hate this and that and that, and tomorrow im gonna hate that and gonna show it by screaming at the top of my lungs.... so pitifull...

and last the "underground" this is where me and most of my friend seem to be, this includes metal (yeah i know SOOOO underground), techno (i like it a lot, excellent when trying to focus and work), classical music (by classical i mean, strauss, vivaldi, chopin, back (yay), bethoven, mozart etc.) and modern classical (anything older than the 60's, sort of like jazz, swing, some presley and beatles)

sufficient to say that the "underground" is where my more intelligent and mature friends are located in my scale

Meaning the bands which aren't so aggressive, "commercial, incongruent, sexist, racist, gangsta" whatever-50cent-kinda like. Beastie Boys is maybe the best example.

I actually listened rap when i was 10 or 11 :/ But nowadays i hate rap. I cant even imagine it called music. Here where i live aint any rap-listeners that do things that (Cliff?) said. But one thing i hate them is about music..They call that crappy snoop dogg and 50 cent some kinda music. And when i tell them about stratos or anything else good music. They just say that when i play it backwards, it turns into satanic music. Maybe you didnt get the point that i were writing becouse im bad writer:(. But my opinion is that (c)rap is destoying finnish youngsters music taste. Thats maybe not as bad thing that rap is doingin USA but anyway :)

In the newpaper they asked the readers what musicstyle they listen to, for example:

a)Classic
b)Pop
and then c)Metal OR rap

Yeah I know, it's really scary.

Doesn't bother me, but I don't listen to it. I don't care much for the lyrical content of rap music either. Of course, the metal community should be the last people on earth to deride the lyrical content of rap. "Ancient Forest of Elves", anyone? :D (Not to mention the hordes of metal songs that promote violence, rebellion and demeaning behavior towards women.)
Though, MTV is probably not your one stop shop if you're looking for poignant social commentary.

As for rap destroying our youth... a Snoop Dogg tune is not going to turn me into a pimp any more than a Judas Priest song makes me want to kill myself.
"Judas Priest makes you suicidal? But that's absurd!" Well, yeah. Fortunately the courts agreed with that assessment when Judas Priest was sued.

Video games don't make you kill people either (although Super Mario Bros. did make this impressionable 12-year-old briefly flirt with the idea of taking up plumbing).

The Ancient Forest Of Elves

TO THE WIND I WILL SING THE TALE OF THE KING
THAT REIGNED IN PEACE AND LOVE
OF THE ONE OF THE MAN WHO CROSSED THE PATH
OF THE ANCIENT FOREST OF ELVES

Old lands and red dragons filled his open eyes
Kings, queens and proud warriors in his magic dreams
Mystical energies led him straight there
To the lonely holy wild path

TO THE WIND I WILL SING THE TALE OF THE KING
THAT REIGNED IN PEACE AND LOVE
OF THE ONE OF THE MAN WHO CROSSED THE PATH
OF THE ANCIENT FOREST OF ELVES

Starfire burning upon the silent lake
While sleep is welcome thanks to my dear elves
Shadows are coming to take his brave soul
To bring it in the lost forgotten world

TO THE WIND I WILL SING THE TALE OF THE KING
THAT REIGNED IN PEACE AND LOVE
OF THE ONE OF THE MAN WHO CROSSED THE PATH
OF THE ANCIENT FOREST OF ELVES

And may the timespell clear his last sin
Ride on the comet to make him free
And may his brave mind endure the pain
Of cosmic evil trying to prevail

"And so a new legend begins...
The borders of space and time are broken once again
And the wise energy of cosmos calls for another hero...
There in the twilight lands of the north
Where the laments of suffering souls rise!"

TO THE WIND I WILL SING THE TALE OF THE KING
THAT REIGNED IN PEACE AND LOVE
OF THE ONE OF THE MAN WHO CROSSED THE PATH
OF THE ANCIENT FOREST OF ELVES
What is it about, anyway? Sounds like pure gibberish to me ...
Chemistry is physics without a thought
Mathematics is physics without a purpose

No, Rap music doesn't make criminals out of kids, however combined with other factors it can contribute. I'll just say this. Do people need to be fed a constant diet of negativity and hopelessness? Where the only answer to your problems come from the barrel of a gun and exploiting and abusing women. Of a twisted reality, that they themselves have the power to change? That question is for each person to decide for themselves. If music and it's influence on people is so benign then what are we all doing here? The type of music a person listens to is such a big part of their lives, such a driving force, yet when it comes time for accountability everyone runs and hides. Rappers glorify their"lifestyle" and we have kids coming up 16-23 years old who take up that life and end up dead, or in prison. Locked in the "system" they speak of with such hatred. They blame society, but nobody forced them to steal cars, kill people, or have shootouts with the cops. We all have choices to make in life.

I know this much, your chances of ending up in a morgue prematurely, or getting locked up greatly decrease if you go about your life in an honest, moral, intelligent and positive way.

Rap is an ingredient in these tragedies, like dough would be an ingredient in making a pizza.

My opinion
Jesse
