Spaceballs 2! Clerks 2!

Post by NordicStorm » Sat Dec 04, 2004 6:01 pm

Ok, so sequels to two of my favourite movies are in the making. To save space they get to share a topic.

Spaceballs 2
Says Mel Brooks:
"I'm writing myself back into the Spaceballs sequel that I'm now writing, so you haven't seen the last of my face."
Now, Brooks hasn't directed or written a movie since the abysmal "Dracula: Dead And Loving It" in 1995, but hopefully he'll be able to come up with some funny stuff from the new Star Wars trilogy. In fact, the movie almost writes itself...

The Passion of the Clerks
It's pretty obvious Kevin Smith is attempting to return to his roots following the disappointing box office returns of his latest, more serious film, "Jersey Girl". But hey, if the dialogue is half as profane as in the first Clerks movie, this one is bound to be pretty funny as well...

I, too, am looking forward to both. But with a dichotomy that says "but....how can you improve upon the original??"

Furthermore, i find the concept of "Clerks 2" absolutely unnecessary. First of all, because the characters recur throughout the rest of the movies. Second of all, because Dante and Randal continued their adventures in the (few) comic books. Third, because...well...my fear of it not living up to the first movie exceeds my desire to have a second one.

I dunno...maybe Clerks 2 could be a branch off of the cartoon (as far as the themes of what the cartoon showed). I think I heard that the title may be called "The Passion of the Clerks" or something. I'm looking forward to it!

And as far as Spaceballs 2...FUCK YEAH!!! That'll be a great sequel!
Somehow I still have an account...yay...?

The first idea was to make an animated Clerks sequel, following the excellent (but shortlived) Saturday morning cartoon. That idea seems to be scrapped, though.
Whatever happens to Clerks 2, though...NO BEN AFFLECK! PLEASE! I'LL GET DOWN ON MY KNEES AND BEG!

Wow, the cartoon was SO great!! I would have loved to have seen a whole movie of that. The part with the Japanese animators kills me every time.

My personal favourite episode is the second one. The clip show with clips from...the first episode. Excellent jab at all those sitcoms and their darn compilation episodes...

It has probably been canned. The last I heard was Mel Brooks was toying with the idea of making a TV series, but that was a while ago. With his wife (Anne Bancroft) passing away recently, I don't think we'll be seeing any movie projects from him in a while (apart from the upcoming movie version of the musical version of The Producers).

I agree, the original movie is funny itself.

I agree with NordicStorm, I am not a Ben Affleck fan either.

Mel Brooks is a comic genius. History of the World is my favorite. If you haven't seen it, you need to. Mel pokes fun at the Roman Empire, Spanish Inquisition, French Revolution, and more. Blazing Saddles is very funny too. With the "Political Correctness Police" running so rampant now, I doubt they could make this film today. Both films made me laugh so hard I was in tears. I own both on DVD.

Spaceballs 2, I wonder if he will use any of the same cast. Mel usually has a group of actors that he uses from movie to movie.

I'm a huge Mel Brooks fan, I have all of his films on DVD, save for two (History of the World part 1, which is one of the funniest movies ever made and the fact that it's still not available on DVD in Europe is a crime against humanity! and Life Stinks, which was a pretty blah).

As for Spaceballs 2...I don't think it's happening at this point. But should it happen, Mel Brooks ought to bring Rick Moranis out of retirement.

But isn't Brooks quite old to make anymore movies? I hope that he could do at least one more classical parody of some move... I hope that it will be Spaceballs 2.

Btw has anyone here seen "Silent Movie" by Brooks? It's very funny!

I wonder if Spaceballs 2 will be called "The Search for More Money", as suggested in the first movie. :D

Spaceballs, excellent. One of my favorite Mel Brooks movies of all time along with History of the World pt 1. I will definatly be in the theatres for this sequel.

Clerks, I could miss this one. The only movie of Kevin Smith's that I liked was Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Mainly for watching the pie fucker get his ass kicked.lol

Haven't heard anything on the Spaceballs 2 front; looks like it's dead.

I like Kevin Smith's movies. Okay, his directorial skills may leave a little something to be desired, but the dialogue is always wicked funny...my personal favourite of his movies is Dogma.

So, anyone seen Clerks II yet? I've been hearing good things.

Also, Spaceballs 2 is almost certainly not happening at this point, but one of the funnier titles bandied about was "Spaceballs 3: The Search for Part 2" ;)
