The worst liveband you've ever seen

Post by Heiserich » Fri Oct 21, 2005 12:10 pm

I started this topic for an acctual reason: I was on the Gamma Ray-Show in Oberhausen on Wednesday. They are on tour with Nocturnal Rites and POWERWOLF... THIS is definitely the fucking worst liveband I've ever seen.

The vocalist is a fat, swetty old guy with a red cape  , telling things like "Freunde der Nacht, wir haben ein Baby umgebracht" ("Friends of the night, we've killed a baby"), trying to pose like Dracula himself. Actually, he looks like the cheapest copycat of diverse copycats of Alice Cooper... The first time I experienced that 50% of the hall was laughing aloud at a band

I'm still laughing my ass off... That was great

Dream Theater. The band is awesome but JLB is such a poor frontman, it ruins it all.

Godsmack...they were supporting Metallica.

Voivod. Hands down. Their performance was so awful. It was like three million degrees in the audience and we had been standing there for over an hour, and the singer went backstage and brought out this huge fan. Everyone started cheering (because apparently we thought maybe the fan was coming out for our benefit). But the fucker turned it inwards to the stage and spent the rest of the set blowing his hair around with it and making faces! Wtf!

I can understand you! I have seen Gamma Ray too and Powerwolf weren't really good, they shall play in the underground or other much better bands shall touring as Opening Act.

It was really funny to see Dracula on stage :x

Oh, I really need to reply to this topic:
Couldn't agree more Strago!! I DO HATE SHAAMAN! :x
Every damn festival I go here in Brazil we have to stand that pseudo vocalist screaming as a neurotic chicken... his screams really hurt my ears and all those stupid and annoying falsettos are not singing at all.
If he only realized how crappy he is by listening to Kotipelto, Kiske and Bruce singing he would cut that fucking crap off.
I only wish Destruction could've remained on stage, it would be much much better than listening to shaaman + all those hysteric girls screaming "you're so cute matos!"...
cute?? ?? :puke: arrghh!!

I agree with that. He doesn't sing. he screams. This is bad, because all the other musicians in the band are extremely good.

@Heiserich : this Powerwolf sounds totally ridiculous indeed!

@Strago : I'm not surprised that you hate Sh(a)aman!

@Criss : I didn't know that you also hate Shaaman. Personally I really don't find anything brilliant in their music. Plus, André might be a hell of nice guy, I really don't like his singing. He sings like he has a permanent flu or like he swallow a sock and can't remove it from his throat :D
I heard few clips from their second album. Not really good.

Worst live band that I have seen. Difficult question. Maybe Nightwish or Dream Theater.

Have you heard The Killing Hand on Live @ The Marquee ? "I'm the killing haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand" THAT is JLB screaming :D Dominici kind of screams it too on the album, but it's less ear-hurting.

Anyway, what I find annoying in him is not his singing (there are much worse singers out there) but his Live attitude and his crowd-praising things just are ridiculous. Before the chorus of Solitary Shell on L @ Budokan, he just says "sing along". Nothing compared to Koti's "OKAY TAVASTIA, LET ME HEAR IT !!!"

BTW have you checked his soloalbum ? Very nice stuff and has Mike Mangini on drums. Highly recommended.

On the other hand, try to imagine DT with Koti, DT with Bruce or DT with Kiske... It wouldn't fit at all. Maybe they should play only instrumental songs but that wouls suck too, their lyrics are very nice.

Actually, i have both Live At The Marquee and Live At Budokan. "Live @ Marquee" is actually a easy album to listen. The singing is, I reckon, more than good. The Live @ Budokan : some songs are good, some songs totally unlistenable (because of his singing), like "The War Inside my Head" or "Trial Of Tears" or the worst, "In The Name of God".
BTW have you checked his soloalbum ? Very nice stuff and has Mike Mangini on drums. Highly recommended.
I heard it's really good.

I guess the pbm is not that JLB is a bad singer. He is not. But every singer has his own singing range limit and shouldn't try to sing higher. Remember Kotipelto in Elements, for ex, or even Michael Kiske. Even Oliver Hartman, Ralf Sheepers or Ralf Halford has their own limit (even if that one limit must be.. about 8 octavers higher than any other singer can reach ! :D)
When JLB sings normally, not that high, he is good!

I think he sang better in the early days too. His voice was perfect for KM's ballads (Wait For Sleep & Space-Dye Vest, I'd love to hear them sung by Koti btw, he would fit them wonderfully too). On L@B, ITNOG is one of my fav tracks, JLB sing awfully but there's that friggin' solo JP adds at the end. Wonderful ! The keyboar/drums duet at the end of Beyond This Life is amazing too...

...and the worst live performers a few weeks back from DT were Mike and Petrucci, LaBrie was doing better than on L@B and his voice is actually very massive and full even in high register. Would say he was really good in the early days, broke his voice, built it up gradually again and now does better than ever. But I was lucky to hear him on the first gig of this fall European tour with a well-rested voice I guess. I mean he friggin hits every high note in Glass Moon now, and even extends the screams when possible. Insane!

ITNOG @ Budokan... LMAO, James does well in comparison to Petrucci's backing vocals an octave up in the chorus. Plain, mouse-like falsetto, luckily it's only too loud in the mix for the 5.1 track of the DVD, in stereo it's almost non-present, phew.

I read somewhere the singer of Nitro can, but never listened, I was told they sucked as hell in spite of Michael Angelo's technique

Hammerfall, Dream Theater and Cage are the worst live bands i've ever seen.

@Miguel Ricardo: yes, Nitro was a mistake in music history  , but Michael Angelo was the center of atraction, i mean, the man can play for sure, and he is all a showman, but his compositions are lame.

Autodafe.
We had this heavy-metal concert here a year ago (YES, we even have them here) called "Rajarock". Only underground bands though, but some of them were REALLY good (For example: Cryptic Death, Human Mind, Panic on Stage). The rest were not so good, but Autodafe was certainly the worst of them! Their singer was pretty awful, music was pretty awful and their show perfomance was pretty awful. For some reason people started to leave the hall..

But, I think they still have potential. A lot of improvement is needed, but they might still end up pretty good.

Incubus, and possibly Desire.

The first one: Holy shit were they awful. On Rock in Rio Lisbon, they played between Slipknot (before Slipknot we had had Sepultura and Moonspell :D ) and Metallica.

I was on the front row, waiting for Metallica. I hadn't eaten or sat in like 10 hours. I spent over two hours DYING there, waiting for them to go the fuck away and bring the good shit in stage.

Plus, they were trying to 'blend' in with the other bands. Their guitar was much too overdriven, and their sound was way too high... Terrible.

As for Desire, they're a portuguese Doom Metal band.. I saw them opening for Evergrey ( best live band I've ever seen, BTW, next to Iron Maiden ), and hell, were they awful. They are so slow the make My Dying Bride sound like fucking Dragonforce. At one point I decided to lie down on the ground, while reading the booklet of my newly-bought Evergrey CD. :D

EDIT. Sweet mother of God. I forgot the worse one.

DRAGONFORCE.

Horrible sound, horrible attitude. POSERS who think they have a metal attitude. 'Nuff said.

The worst band on stage I´ve ever seen is Rhapsody. Was incredible... the performance was like a movie! I mean, no improvisation , everything calculated.. and the singer wasn´t on his best. Definitely, Rhapsody.

the really worst band I've ever seen was support act of Page & Plant called Transglobal Underground. I won't remember that black chapter!

but as headliner not very good is offspring (in my opinion) because you pay 50 CHF (35 Euro or 40 USD) for only 70 minutes including encores!!!! never again! I'd rather pay the same price for DT and have 3 hours of happiness!
