Re: Despair
As an anthropologist wannabe, I have to disagree with this. Human beings are social beings as much as they are biological beings. No one wants to be alone all the time, and I don't think it's impossible to flee from solitude. I think there are people who understand you, but I guess that for someone to feel exactly the way you feel most of the time, that person would have to be your clone, and would you really want to live among people who are identical to yourself? That would be boring and not cool at all.Forget-me-not wrote:Have you heard about existential loneliness? According to this theory, man is irresistibly solitary. He is born against his will and when he dies he is doomed to meet death face to face. And during his life he is absolutely lonely, and even if it seems to him that somebody entirely understands him, it is temporary and transient feeling, unity with somebody is momentary. To flee from solitude is useless..
@ Bathory Killcraft: You got Morgana's posts wrong, which is understandable because you probably don't know what she is referring to.

Re: Despair
i am somehow through these situation, but in a projected way, i mean, my uncle is sick, a terrible disease, and probably he's about to die sooner or later due to that fact...the problem is that everyone but him knows what he has, because we know him, he is a little bit weak and the psichologist told us that if he knew about his disease he'd probably drop his strenght down.stratoplayer wrote:Miguel_Ricardo wrote:am I the only one that didn't think about suicide when reading what Morgana posted ? or am I just a bit retarded
Nope, but suicide is a viable option for me, don't get me wrong, I'm talking terminal and excruziating disease, I'd gladly drive my katana through my throat than have others miserable about me being in pain for years slowly wasting away, thats not living in my book.
It is even harder for the ones who love him (including me of course), so i decided that if i ever fall sick... in terminal matters, suicide would be nothing but a wise movement

"slaughter of the soul, suicidal final art"
Re: Despair
I agree with both of you, stratoplayer and neonlightchild. But in those terminal situations, I would use the term euthanasia rather than suicide. Encarta defines euthanasia as "painless killing to relieve suffering: the act or practice of killing somebody who has an incurable illness or injury, or of assisting that person to die." I think that suicide refers more to depression and mental state.

Re: Despair
well, yeah, i meant suicide as a way of dying, not necessarily killing yourself, but just dying

I feel that a single human being can trascend his/her pain on pure strength of will, sure a significant other is a great help (or a really really good friend in my case) but I believe that a mentally and spiritually (not religiouse, just inner peace and such) can overcome anything.

Re: Despair
Well, my intention was not to refer to her post specifically but comment on depression generally. A great number of depression cases - especially in younger age - relates to love life, rejection and dissapointment and sometimes bullying. When you are a teenager your main problems are usually girls and school. Everything else is more or less set up for you; someone else is providing for you. At a later age however things become serious; you come face to face with health problems, unemployment, social security and physical loss.Stealth wrote:@ Bathory Killcraft: You got Morgana's posts wrong, which is understandable because you probably don't know what she is referring to.
To put it this way; I used to have a friend who threatened to commit suicide after she broke up with her boyfriend (for whatever reason). And I used to know (indirectly) two brothers who lost both their parents in a period of one year. Both were students in high school, totaly dependent to their parents financially. Now what can you say to them? How can you compare the loss of life to a break up? I don't think you can.
That's why I think it is too shelfish and perhaps spoilt to be like that over a break up - or whatever reason related to love and relationships. Real life out there can be much more cruel than that. Be thankful for what you still have, your health, your family, your friends and cherish it every single day.

Re: Despair
Bathory, I agree, but the point is that no one here ever referred to a break up.
I think it's a little out of context, that's all, but yes, I certainly agree with what you said.

Re: Despair
Yeah I understand, I only use the term break up as an example. What I imply is all the possible disapointments stemming from a relationship. Be it a break up or being unable to be with the person you love and loves you. I understand how serious is for the individuals involved but in the big scheme of things it is not very important, at least in my opinion.Stealth wrote:Bathory, I agree, but the point is that no one here ever referred to a break up.I think it's a little out of context, that's all, but yes, I certainly agree with what you said.

Forget-Me-Not, because your world is forest, yes?
I walked in the forest yesterday from the morning until deep evening. And I had a real rest of all troubles that I have now. My stomach didn't hurt me, my body neither, my breath was easy and pleasant... And despair disappeared for awhile...

Re: Despair
Why do you think I am delighted by this scenery? I have lived all my conscious life near this forest, and I can say I know every tree here. I am happy when I see the first flowers, awaken chipmunk, birds of passage, who came back. But I can’t dissemble rubbish, burnt ant hills, culled flowers and corpses of dogs… And when I see trees fallen I feel despair.Stealth wrote:Damn! I enjoy dark woodland sceneries like this http://irc-galleria.net/view.php?nick=S ... d=34886817, but not that on my picture.
