Kimi takes the driver's championship.

I knew it. It all boils down to talent, endurance and good teamwork in F1, and Ferrari had that in spades. This is one of the most deserved championship wins in the last two decades. Cheers to Kimi, and to Felipe Massa of course. This is what makes formula one great.

Oh yeah, to those sad tossers who think that Hamilton is still going to win the title because the BMW and Williams cars were driving around with cooler gas: get a life and stop moaning. This is a fantastic and historical comeback, and you know it. Kimi won the title fair and square.

In no way was I referring to anyone on this forum when I said that, I was just venting a bit of indignation about McLaren's feeble attempt to pry the title out of Kimi's hands. I hope I didn't offend anyone, but it was - and actually still is - such a telling example of bad sportsmanship.

Being the spoilt brat that he is, he just could not stomach the fact that Fernando was driving in front of him and had to overtake him, although he should have played it cool and simply bided his time in fourth position. That would have given him the title. He just lost his self-control last Sunday and has nobody other than himself to blame for losing the title.

As far as the influence of slightly cooler fuel goes: I don't believe there would be any significant difference in lap times as a result of this. If you look at last Sunday's results, you won't even find Heidfeld and Rosberg in the top five of fastest lap times, while the super talented Kubica managed to set only the fourth fastest lap time. So, there is no obvious advantage there, especially if one considers that Hamilton set the second fastest lap time on Sunday, right after Kimi.

This is typical McLaren though, getting all worked up about details, while they themselves commit acts that are entirely unacceptable by any standard, like organised industrial espionage. One should not forget that McLaren got off relatively easily with that 100 million dollar fine and exclusion from the constructor's championship alone.

If I was a McLaren fan, I would seriously reconsider my allegiance right now, but fortunately I'm not. Avanti!

I have only one thing to say about Hamilton's quotes:

"I want to win it on the track. You want to do it in style, you want to win the race or battling it out for the lead. Being promoted after other people have been thrown out is not the way I want to do it."

Blah, blah, blah...

That is the most obligatory polite babble that I've ever heard. Talk is cheap, actions speak louder than words. Don't bask in Ron Dennis's safe shadow, but stand up against him and tell him you'll have to reconsider your contract with McLaren if the latter do not refrain from filing an official claim against BMW and Williams. That would have been real character, but right now, I'm not too impressed...

I have always been a fan of Mika Häkkinen and Kimi Räikkönen and finally Kimi made it too. He has been deserving it for abotu 4 years now, but he was always the most unlucky guy with his cars stopping or having to start the race from behind because of mechanical problems. I like Hamilton as well, he is an incredible pilot, but this time it was Kimi who had to win, he totally deserves his title of World Champion and I hope it will continue in the next some years.

He's 22, a newbie and in his first season. Ron Dennis has sponsored him for so long and brought him to where he is. He's hardly in a position to speak out against the team, and he's quite greatful to have achieved what he has. I can think of no one else his age and experience who would've dealt with the immense pressures of F1 so well. That's some pretty impressive character and strength of mind (not to mention maturity) if you ask me, since F1 really isn't for everyone, and he's not afraid to admit he made mistakes. Of course he will, he's got a fraction of the experience in F1 that most other drivers have.

But why such intense dislike for him? You seem to have hated him from the start of the season without a real reason...

No, I certainly don't "hate" or "intensely dislike" anyone. Formula one is only a sport that I watch on TV, so I'm not going to expend any calories on sentiments like that. I have to admit that I like Kimi a lot more, but that's only based on what I see on TV and the funny stories I hear; I don't know either driver on a personal level.

Of course we're all entitled to our personal preferences, and I'm no exception to that adage. But, having said that, I just think that Kimi represents the spirit of formula one a little better. He represents the idea of perseverance in the face of adversity, objective competition and, well, fair play. He's kept a cool head through it all, which is more than can be said for Fernando and Lewis. I just think he deserved the title fair and square; Lewis will have plenty of opportunities to really prove himself as a driver, and he'll appreciate it more if he wins the title based on his own merit as a driver and not on favouritism from Ron Dennis.

I never did think he would appreciate a freshman to upset his two year reign. He must have thought that he, being the world champion, would get preference and the Hamilton would be there to assist or support him. Well, I don't really mind, I always root for Ferrari.

Wasn't today the date of that McLaren appeal? Precious little news about that so far, not even an announcement on the F1 website...

In view of the recent Davydenko (Russian tennis player) affair, I thought I'd look into fraudulent online gambling ploys a bit. I put one and one together and, well, this question arose: Would formula one drivers be immune to the temptations of fraudulent gambling? Or do some of those unexpected spectacular victories - and, far more important, losses - actually have far more mundane causes, like making a quick buck?

Doping already destroyed so many sports. Is gambling going to achieve something similar, and how should one prevent that from happening?
