TIMO TOLKKI (Stratovarius) has issued the following update on his official Myspace:

"We have completed the vocals for Saana´s first part. Jennifer, Aino, Heikki and Janette were all delivering outstanding emotional vocal performances. We were also filming on location near Helsinki and inside. It has been the most creative 4 weeks I have ever had. Now I am going to rest a few and then start working on the final stage of this project: editing and mixing. I hope to complete everything by early January so you can expect the release around April.

There are few pictures from the sessions in the "pictures" section."

Wasn't it formerly announced it will be released sooner? In the beginning of the year? ???
Why everything is delayed? The new Stratoalbum also should have been released this year...

Another ill thing is that this information above is posted everywhere else, but not on the official website of the band :?

Does it need to inform TT´s opera on Strato official site? It´s TT´s own project, not relating to Strato.

But, TT IS a part of Strato.

But Saana Opera isn't part of Stratovarius, it's only Tolkkis own job, not job of Stratovarius, so that's nothing to do with this band!
Is Kotipelto band also one part of Stratovarius?

No, but there are some information about Kotipelto gig and video:

Moreover, most of the bands usually inform at their websites about member's solo projects...

If there was a webmaster, there would be news posted as well.

There is probably a "secret webmaster" just like the "secret(not-so-secret)moderators" that are around here! ;)

Bah... it must be Jens I think. Don't think he gives away site administrative rights. That would be way too much power for some "anonymous" member.

Seriously, I think Jens is the acting Webmaster now. He is probably just too busy to update anything.

News from TT:
16. joulu 2007

MIXING SAANA

I have been mixing Saana at Sonic Pump in Helsinki for 4 days now. First 3 days went pretty much just to get all the material from several different sources to the same place. It ended up being 123 tracks, which is way bigger than any Stratovarius session. That means it´s gonna be hard to mix.
Anyways, I am getting the vibe and emotion and build up the mixes from emotional point of view.
I have played some stuff to some people and they have started to cry. When I asked what did you feel, the answer was that there seems to be so much feelings and emotions in the music that it just makes you cry. The listener has no choice because it is actually like when you are watching a film and you know "those moments" when you feel like crying or touched.
Well I have a big task to fit 123 tracks to stereo. I will do surround mixes to at the same time.
My sleeping rythm is just completely fucked up. I wake up at 4 in the morning and cant get more sleep. So then I head to studio and start working. Weird.
I have learned so much from this project that has taken one year from my life. I don´t think I will ever be able to look at music at the same level. The singers were so much in tune with their feelings that it was just so easy to get great performances. I have some amazing stuff there like Jennifer singing very touching line and when she stops singing you hear this sobbing. This has never happened before. She requested that all the vocals must be done the way that she lies on her back. I have never seen that before. She also had a goldfish with her that she kept there all the time. His name is Giacomo and it was a bit weird to have it there all the time and take it back to her place.
Anyway all is proceeding as planned. Try to relax folks..it´s XMas time. I can´t, but I head for some warm place after it´s ready.

Good news from TT:
04. tammi 2008

SAANA pt 1 IS MIXED AND MASTERED

After spendning 21 or so days in the studio, I got the mixes done. It was the weirdest mixing session I have ever done. Only assembling the huge amount of material to the same place before I could even start to mix took something like 5 days. And I had "second unit" behind me for overdubbing "late minute" ideas, which turned out to be almost 40% of the material.
Then my whole sleeping rhythm got completely weird. I went to sleep around midnight and woke up at 3. Every night, exactly at 3 I woke up and could not fall back to sleep. So I went to the studio and started working. This made my working days very weird. from 5 in the morning to around 7 in the evening. One morning I entered the studio and there were some drunken people sleeping on the couches. I went to the control room and very soon I witnessed a rather well known Finnish rock musician venturing around the studio completely naked and finding his way to me only to say: "what are you doing here"?, to which I answered, well I am mixing. What are YOU doing here completely naked:)
That was pretty funny. Reminded me for those days I was still drinking. It was fun sometimes, I have to admit.
The Xmas came and went and I was doing my work and building the mix. Saana is hard to mix, because it is basically just one song. LIke operas are. There are segments of course, but basically it is 45 minutes of continuous music. It´s a story and it is not an easy listening story.
So then I had the final mix done and I also did surround mixes for the video stuff at the same time.
3.1. I took the whole thing to Chartmakers for mastering, and very soon it was quite clear that the sound was very very good and airy. Not much needed to be done. After listening to the mastered copy I decided that I want to have some volume changes between some sections and we will do those on next Monday.
The feeling of holding in your hand something you have been working on for 9 months is undescribable. It´s almost better than sex, but not quite. The work still continues with graphics deparment. Over 5000 photos was taken for this project and there are 25 hours of videomaterial.
But guys and girls, I am almost there:)

And may the 2008 be filled with golden light in each of your lifes. Give yourselves a hug.

In the next few weeks there will be some infos finally at www.saana-warrioroflight.com
I know, I am 4 months behind the schedule:) Just ask the record company how they feel about it.

In Opera, Timo

Ahh, no. I am just excited about a small gig a friends band are doing down my local pub, it's a warmup for them as the week later they are supporting Battlelore. Don't get to go out as much since becoming a dad so I have to plan ahead for nights out these days. Your sons birthday on the 15th then I take it? :)
