Gee Whiz, what happened to the good 'ol days when at least 4 guys would wind up at the convention to be chosen from? ???
I heard Huckabee is still strong in some states, Idaho was it?

Anyway, as long as Huckabee is not chosen I'm fine... another religious zealot and methodist no less... the horror
Romney is a very faithful Mormon.....my aunt was a Mormon&Methodists are liberal in comparison! ;)
Maybe but Mormons are smart enough to work things to their advantage, hence why they are so fuckin rich (most of them). You should see the church they built around here, almost a palace, huge and heavily decorated.
Funny, when I hear the word "Mormon" I think of The Osmonds. And, yes, they were rich---a long time before 12-year-old girls made them popular. :music:

"The hardest chore in the circus is cleaning up after the Elephants." ;)

John McCain won Florida on the republican party&Hillary got the most popular votes of the Dems.

John Edwards dropped out&Rudy is considering giving up.

Super Tuesday is next week, so that should tell the tale of who goes to the conventions.

Rudy's out too. Oh well, at least he's backing McCain. Out of the current lineup, I'd most like to see Obama take it but that's doubtful. McCain is probably the one I'd be happiest with as president.

My girlfriend and I watched the democratic primary "debate" between Hillary and Obama last night. She's a liberal, and I am a right-leaning libertarian. Interestingly enough, we both agreed that this was little more than a new found mutual admiration club between the two candidates that will probably end up being running mates.

Hillary can't get the black votes without Obama, and Obama can't get the Hispanic vote without Hillary. As usual, these are two politicos that are good at identifying problems via their liberal demagoguery, but as if they can actually solve any problems (if elected) remains to be seen. Nothing has been done since the dems regained power in Congress, so I'd love to see what they will tell voters that they have actually done since then.

Politicians are great at telling people what they want to hear (in order to get elected), but are piss poor at execution & implementation of their plans. I dislike both of the two major parties, and quite frankly, I think that they are both full of shit.

A nifty little survey to determine who you might vote for based on your personal feelings about key issues:

http://www.votechooser.com

Unsurprisingly, the list for me was: 1. Hillary 2. OBama 3. Ron Paul

But, McCain last? I don't think so. I like his views better than Romney's.

I would vote Obama... weird, I, since I share most of his views, but I don't think he has the necessary experience for the job.

Well the one good thing about this election is that whoever wins couldn't possibly be worse than who's currently in power.

I just wonder whats going to hapen to all those shit-slinging conspiracy blogs after Bush leaves. I mean, their main purpose for the past going on 8 years has been to bash Bush&his doings even to the point of spreading end-of-the-world rumors. I guess they will have to go back to UFO spottings&abductions.
Hopefully. :D

They'll just carry on bashing whoever becomes president. You can count on it. Bush just had more because he's become very unpopular, but president basher/conspiracy theorists always are there.

@NV, you are right. The best way to deal with that stuff is laugh at it, I suppose because it has already started with all of the candidates. But, spreading rumors about someone's personal life, or past is still mean, IMO. I think this is going to be one mean-spirited campaign from the looks of it! :buh:

The political storm on Super Tuesday was almost as gusty&violent as the weather we had outside! :D

McCain won most Republican delegates which put him way ahead of the pack!
And, Hillary&OBama are only 20 delegates apart! :omg:
OBama won Alabama&several other states which surprised me--like Georgia, Idaho&Alaska!

Digging up dirt on your opponent is one of the oldest tricks in the book. It's mean, and it's proven to work.

Anyway I didn't think Alaska had anyone worth bothering to campaign to..

Yeah, Alaska has very few delegates.

Romney dropped out. So, it does not take a genius to figure out who will be the finalist. ;)

And, the conspiracy sites are really going after John, but he is fighting back by speaking out against these rumor mills. I have to admire him for that! :)
And, the rumors started about OBama are really mean. Who cares what a person does during their college days 30 years ago? Hell, nobody is a damn angel! :D

We were watching a political show on CNN last night regarding the election and candidates:

Eva> "I knew it! You're a Republican- just like my ex-husband!"

Miditek> "Actually, I am an Independent, and lean more towards the Libertarian party. As I've said, I really don't like either of the two major political parties. They are both bad for the country."

Eva> "Does this mean I can talk you into voting for Hillary?"

Miditek> "Sigh. I'd vote for Tolkki (plus Greens Party candidates and other assorted eco-nuts) before I'd vote for Hillary!"

One can always vote for the lesser evil.

I think it was in France where many left-leaning voters once went to the polls with a clothespin on their noses to show their resentment against their candidate.

Perhaps we can send them a few cases of this:

Image

It might be helpful in more ways than one. :D

Speaking of crooked politicians, William Long (D), the Sheriff of Hamilton County (Chattanooga), Tennessee (where I live) was arrested just last week by the FBI for extortion, money laundering, weapons violations, and drug conspiracy charges. Among other things, the Sheriff was caught on video loading 10 kilos of cocaine into the trunk of his car.

Think he is in enough trouble now? This comes on the heels of another FBI investigation, "The Tennessee Waltz" which netted the arrests of several public officials from both parties here and in Memphis on extortion charges. It's kind of hard to defend yourself when the FBI has you on videotape accepting bribes in marked currency from a confidential informant.

While not directly related to the presidential campaign, neither major political party should act as if they have a monopoly on ethics as neither party now has any at all. Hillary almost got herself into trouble a few years back when she somehow parlayed a $1,000 investment in the commodities market into a $100,000 profit almost overnight. That story may come back to haunt her in November. All of the candidates probably have a boneyard full of skeletons in their closet.

"Politics is an instrument of the devil." Bob Dylan :D

Don Siegelman, former governor of Alabama, is in Federal Prison right now on a bribery charge--he's got about 5 more years to go. :buh: The sad thing is, he was the best governor in terms of the job, that AL had in several decades!
Another sad thing, he was just the one who happened to get caught! :D

Obama is no Jack Kennedy. I think he's an intelligent guy, but certainly nowhere near the leader that JFK was.

Yes, probably not. It's just interesting to read about how he is compared to persons like JFK. I mean, I'm not there in your country, I can tell only by what the media is reporting here, but these days they very often tell about a kind of "Obama Movement".

I think Obama is now ahead of Hillary in the delegate count, right? ??? I'm not positive, but I think he is.
I'm still rooting for Hillary, but I would not complain at all if Obama won the nomination! :)

I think Ron Paul has dropped out, too.

Nah, Hillary is still just barely ahead. But I hope she loses.

"Health Care Reformist" is basically funded by drug industry. Her plan is to take billions of tax dollars, give them to corporations and take away your choice of doctors unless you are rich.

Loves putting people in prison who have not harmed anybody. Likes the fact that you jail a higher percentage of your population than any other country. Is pro-retard execution. Thinks people who smoke pot because they have cancer should go to prison.

Received far more money from arms dealers than any other Dem because she loves wars and doesn't give a shit about the suffering they cause and will continue to expand military spending. Voted for the war in Iraq because she "believed" that Saddam was linked to 9-11 and metal tubes are clear proof of weapons of mass destruction capable of reaching the US.

Thinks the government should censor video games and television.

Unabashed corporatist. She hearts NAFTA. I don't think the words "fair trade" have ever crossed her lips, and if they did, she was bullshiting.

Supports all versions of the Patriot Act.

In short, would be on the right side of the Tories, Conservative Party etc.

But I bet she will really have the guile and political savvy to stick it to the Republicans, especially since they agree on virtually every issue!

John McCain is not a perfect angel, either!

Will the Real McCain
Please Sit Down

John Sidney McCain III entered the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland in 1954. Young McCain wanted to become an admiral. He planned to be the "first son and grandson of four star admirals" to achieve such a distinction. But that was not to be. McCain III possessed none of the innate character and discipline traits that helped mold his father and grandfather into great military leaders.

His father, John S. "Junior" McCain, and grandfather, John S. McCain, Sr., were famous four-star Admirals in the U.S. Navy. His father commanded U.S. forces in Europe before becoming commander of American forces fighting in Vietnam. His grandfather commanded naval aviation at the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. Both men became highly influential in U.S. Navy operations.

At the Academy, aside being known as a "rowdy, raunchy, underachiever" who resented authority, Cadet McCain became infamous as a leader among his fellow midshipmen for organizing "off-Yard activities" and hard drinking parties. Robert Timberg wrote in his book, The Nightingale's Song, that "being on liberty with John McCain was like being in a train wreck."

McCain's grades were "marginal." He drew so many demerits for breaking curfew and other discipline issues that he graduated fifth from the bottom of the class of 1958. Despite his low "class standing," and no doubt because of the influence of his family of famous Admirals, McCain was leap-frogged ahead of more qualified applicants and granted a coveted slot to be trained as a navy pilot.

Good Party Animal - Bad Pilot:

He spent the next two and a half years as a "naval aviator in training" at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida and Naval Air Station Corpus Christi in Texas, flying A-1 Skyraiders.

While a pilot trainee, McCain continued to party hard. He drove a Corvette and dated an exotic dancer named "Marie the Flame of Florida." Timberg wrote that McCain "learned to fly at Pensacola, though his performance was below par, at best good enough to get by. He liked flying, but didn't love it."

McCain Lost Five Military Aircraft

McCain, the "below par" pilot, eventually lost 5 military aircraft, the first during a training flight in 1958 when he plunged into Corpus Christi Bay while trying to land. The Navy ignored the crash and graduated McCain in 1960.

While deployed in the Mediterranean, the hard partying McCain lost a second aircraft. Timberg described the crash: "Flying too low over the Iberian Peninsula, he took out some power lines which led to a spate of newspaper stories in which he was predictably identified as the son of an admiral."

Unscathed, McCain returned to Pensacola Station where he was promoted to flight instructor for Naval Air Station Meridian in Mississippi. The airfield at Meridian, McCain Field, was named in honor of McCain's grandfather.

In 1964 McCain became involved with Carol Shepp, a model from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he had met at Annapolis. They were married in Philadelphia on July 3, 1965.

Flight instructor McCain lost a third aircraft while flying a Navy trainer solo to Philadelphia for an Army-Navy football game. Timberg wrote that McCain radioed, "I've got a flameout" before ejecting at one thousand feet. McCain parachuted onto a beach moments before his plane slammed into a clump of trees.

The Navy dismissed the crash as "unavoidable" and assigned McCain to the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal in December 1966, which was patrolling the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. In Spring 1967, the Forrestal was assigned to join the Operation Rolling Thunder bombing campaign against North Vietnam.

McCain lost his fourth plane on board the Forrestal on July 29, 1967 when a rocket inadvertently slammed into his bomb laden jet. McCain escaped, but the explosions that followed killed 134 sailors. McCain was transferred from the badly damaged Forrestal to the USS Oriskany. Shortly afterwards, on Oct. 26, 1967, he was shot down and captured by the Vietnamese.

Post-POW Years: Political Ambition and a New, Young, Rich Wife

Upon his release from North Vietnam and return to the United States in 1973, McCain reunited with his wife, Carol, who had been permanently crippled in a car accident while he was a POW.

Still yearning to become an admiral, McCain enrolled in the National War College at Fort McNair in Washington, D.C. and underwent physical therapy in order to fly again. The Navy excused his permanent disabilities and reinstated him to flight status, effectively positioning him for promotion.

Timberg described McCain's advancement: "in the fall of 1974, McCain was transferred to Jacksonville as the executive officer of Replacement Air Group 174, the long-sought flying billet at last a reality. A few months later, he assumed command of the RAG, which trained pilots and crews for carrier deployments. The assignment was controversial, some calling it favoritism, a sop to the famous son of a famous father and grandfather, since he had not first commanded a squadron, the usual career path."

While Executive Officer and later as Squadron Commander McCain used his authority to arrange frequent flights that allowed him to carouse with subordinates and "engage in extra-marital affairs."

This was a violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice rules against adultery and fraternization with subordinates. But, as with all his other past behaviors, McCain was never penalized; instead he always got away with his transgressions.

Timberg wrote, "Off duty, usually on routine cross-country flights to Yuma and El Centro, John started carousing and running around with women. To make matters worse, some of the women with whom he was linked by rumor were subordinates . . . At the time the rumors were so widespread that, true or not, they became part of McCain's persona, impossible not to take note of."

In early 1977, Admiral Jim Holloway, Chief of Naval Operations promoted McCain to captain and transferred him from his command position "to Washington as the number-two man in the Navy's Senate liaison office. McCain was promptly given total control of the office. It wasn't long before the "fun loving and irreverent" McCain had turned the liaison office into a "late-afternoon gathering spot where senators and staffers, usually from the Armed Services and Foreign Relations committees, would drop in for a drink and the chance to unwind."

In 1979, while attending a military reception in Hawaii, McCain met and fell in love with Cindy Lou Hensley, 17 years his junior, who was the daughter of James W. Hensley, a wealthy Anheuser-Busch distributor from Phoenix, Arizona. McCain filed for and obtained an uncontested divorce from his wife in Florida on April 2, 1980 and promptly married Cindy on May 17, 1980.

I think all soldiers party pretty hard. I sure as hell did :D

Did you know McCain is one of like 3 members of congress and the senate to have a child serving in Iraq? His son, Jimmy, 19 is a marine stationed there. I just found that out today.

Plus, last I checked they didn't just hand out Silver Stars to anyone.

But yes, all that is stuff to bear in mind...

Vote For Obama And Have a 'Get Out Of Racism Free' Card!
It’s primary day here in the DC area. Due to the fact that I am a registered independent and a convicted embezzler/animal sex offender, I’m not eligible to vote in any of these things. I tried to change my registration, but I was far too late to do so. But, if I were eligible, I would totally vote for this guy, Barack Obama. In fact, I even gave his campaign ten dollars, and I plan on happily voting for him in November. Now, I have political reasons for voting for Obama. I like him, I like his policies, I think he’s a great leader and all that shit.

But fuck all that for a moment. There’s another reason I want to vote for Obama, and it is this. Voting for Barack Obama gives me, a white person, a new and refreshing way to let people know that I am NOT a racist. For years, after making a terrible ethnic joke, I always tried to counter any accusations of racism with the tired excuse, “Hey, I’ve got black friends.”

First of all, this excuse has been beaten into the ground by too many white people (such as me) over the years. No one buys it anymore, and rightfully so. You’re just a boy crying black wolf if you say it. Second of all, I haven’t seen my one black friend in over a year. Which sucks, because my friend Turk (not his real name, nor does he call me JD) may know more about pornography than any man in history. The darkest friend I have after that is my friend Tony, and I only say he’s dark because he wears lots of black and is on lithium. The rest of my friends are whiter than a blank Word document.

So that excuse doesn’t wash any more for my lily-white preppy Bethesda ass. If I want to deflect any and all racial criticism, I’m gonna need something better. And that’s what this knight in shining chocolate armor gives me. How racist can I be if I actively contributed to and voted for a silky smooth black man to be leader of the free world? Answer: NOT RACIST AT ALL!

Did I complain about that fat black woman who was walking too slowly down the sidewalk, whom I could not get around? Sure did. But I’m not racist. I VOTED FOR OBAMA, GOD DAMMIT. Do I know every line of “Blazing Saddles” by heart? Oh, yeah. But I’m not racist. I VOTED FOR OBAMA, GOD DAMMIT. Does my sphincter tighten if I’m alone in a parking garage late at night after a movie and I see a black man approaching? Possibly. But I’m not racist. I VOTED FOR OBAMA, GOD DAMMIT. Do I think that John Thompson may be legally retarded? Good God, yes. But I’m not racist. I VOTED FOR OBAMA, GOD DAMMIT.

You see? With one pull of the lever, I’ve got a whole new excuse for all my minor prejudices and subconscious anxieties towards people who are different from me. And that buys me another decade or so to avoid confronting and trying to fix all those pesky inner flaws. Oh, the freedom tastes so sweet!

AND it gives me carte blanche to accuse OTHER white people of being racist, which is just about the most enjoyable thing in the world. Because, if you didn’t know it by now, the fact is that the most racially offensive thing to call a white person today is “racist”. “Honky” and “cracka” don’t bother them in the least. But call a white person the r-word? Holy shit, do they get upset. It’s terrific fun. Look at all those Massholes. They voted for that white Clinton bitch in the primary. WHAT A BUNCH OF FILTHY RACISTS! If only they had voted for Obama like me, then they would be extremely NOT racist. But they didn’t, so fuck those unenlightened, Klan-rallying racists.

I’m also hoping this vote gives me an opportunity to broaden my ethnic joke repertoire. Ever notice how Asian people treat other people as if they’re completely invisible? Or that some black grocery store clerks always need the key? Those are topics I’d really like to touch on. Not that I’m racist. I VOTED FOR OBAMA, GOD DAMMIT.

I tell you, playing this Obama card will work absolute wonders for us all. We’re about to enter a whole new world of acceptable ethnic humor, which I think will help unify us all. Can we make it happen? Well, if I may be so bold: YES WE CAN!
