Just got a bit of cash and decided I should now get a pedal (been playing for yers without one) but I can't seem to settle on one brand, let alone a model...
Anyone who would recommend me a nice metal (sort of Iron Maiden, Strato and Dream Theater's heavy songs) that is preferably under 120 us dollars?

Re: need help choosing a guitar pedal
For a heavy sound I'd recommend this http://www.ehx.com/ehx2/Default.asp?f=% ... l_Muff&q=f
Everyone I know has one, it does it's job quite well, and it's not very expensive (90-100 $ at most)
After you bought this though, you'll surely need a noise supressor.

Maybe u should check the Line6 Pocket POD (http://line6.com/pocketpod) ?stratoplayer wrote:Just got a bit of cash and decided I should now get a pedal (been playing for yers without one) but I can't seem to settle on one brand, let alone a model...
Advantages : tons of presets, effects and amp simulators (metal, and other styles), tiny size (you can carry it with you
, it fits in your pocket) , possibility ot play with a headphone, tuning, can be used with batteries or an AC adapter (not included), settings can be updated via USB. And it has the high-quality of Line6 products.
You won't find any better deal for the price, imo.
Or if you want smt even better (but a tiny bit more expensive), check the Floor POD, PODxt or POD 2.0. Many professional guitar players uses Line 6 effects, you can't be disapointed.

I have a Line 6 guitar recorder, it is awesome but I can only use it on my desktop, didn't disappoint, but it was quite a bit more than I could afford, my dad actually paid for most of it...cliff wrote:Maybe u should check the Line6 Pocket POD (http://line6.com/pocketpod) ?stratoplayer wrote:Just got a bit of cash and decided I should now get a pedal (been playing for yers without one) but I can't seem to settle on one brand, let alone a model...

Call me a traditionalist, I guess, but I've gotten a lot of mileage over the years with BOSS (Roland) pedals.

I think that they are a great value for the money, and years ago, although as @NV said, the Korg ToneWorks processors are also very good.

+1 for Roland! Digitech have really good stuffs as well.
Toneworks, mmm... I have a Pandora PX3b, the box is tiny and quite useful, eventhough the effects are crap in my opinion, but I guess they improve their stuffs since.

Yeah, Korg have really moved on since then, they make great products generally (our keyboardist hates Korg stuff though for some reason)

Re: need help choosing a guitar pedal
Thanks guys.
A friend of mine tells me he can sell me his old pedal a Zoom 606, sounds nice, has 40+ effects, he'll let me borrow it a bit next week when he gets it home and let me decide.

Don't get your hopes up.
The 606 isn't that great.
I'd go with newer Korg products.

Re: need help choosing a guitar pedal
Yes, the Digitech stuff is really not bad at all for the $$ either. I used to sell a boatload of the GSP-2101 guitar processors when I worked in music retail many years ago. I used to demo the 2101 through a full 100w Hiwatt stack (or sometimes, a 100w Marshall) with a w/ a 60's reissue Gibson SG, and more often than not, we'd ring the order up within 10 minutes after the start of the demo.
You can find used ones like the 2101 on Ebay for around $150-$200 USD- and up (depending on the firmware) not too much more than you would pay for a brand new BOSS pedal.

And yes, eBay is a place to look. Effects don't tend to decay like instruments with use, unless they are treated very carelessly.

I second that.NeonVomit wrote:The 606 isn't that great.
If you want to get some decent effects, forget the old ZOOM pedals, they suck. The new ZOOM pedals are much better, for ex the G2.1U.
If I were you, I would go for the BOSS ME-20!
And I completely agree with miditek about the effects you can find on ebay.
They are not much cheaper compared to the new price, and for the tiny difference of money, you should buy NEW.

Re: need help choosing a guitar pedal
Well! I dunno. Older Zoom pedals were excellent if you liked your guitar sounding like a bunch of very angry bees in an empty oil drumcliff wrote:I second that.NeonVomit wrote:The 606 isn't that great.

Re: need help choosing a guitar pedal
I used to have a Korg AX1000g that was really great. But I exchanged it for a PODXT Live which is even greater. :p But the Korg would be somewhere around 100-120 dollars used....and it has a controllerpedal for wah-wah and stuff....I can really recommend that one, especially if you play through amplifier.....but works ok for direct line-in recording.

Re: need help choosing a guitar pedal
I'd recommend something classical and simple, like Boss DS-2 or MD-2 or Electroharmonix Bigmuff/metalmuff/the english muff. proco's are also good and some Digitechs (don't be confused by the fancy names, the ones with boring and stupid names usually kick the asses of "UBERMETALOMGZOMGFUCKMYASSUP"-fancily named pedals. Also ibanez distortions are something great and MXR. Even some Behringer pedals rule (believe it or not) cause their sound variety is just great. ofcourse they don't have the vintage feeling of metalmade boxes So before you buy anything and trust blindly in our advices, go to stores and test different pedals and find THE sound for you.

And for me, all pedals work with noice surpression, without it on my multieffect I would die of the buzzing (a victim of zoom&behringer plasticshit)

Re: need help choosing a guitar pedal
I say go for somethin analogue, most boss/digitech pedals are digital, which modifies the dynamics in your sound, while the analogue ones (electro-harmonix, EBS) don't. and if you know how to do an electric circuit there are tons of schemes on the net, some of very expensive and very good analogue pedals, and you can make them with less than 20$ and they sond almost like the original.

I'm checking it out now, looks pretty awesome. How does is compare to Line 6's new one... forget the name but it has like a gazillion effects and amps.NeonVomit wrote:Our guitarist just got a Korg AX3000. Excellent piece of equipment.

Yep, but thanks anyway :p
And yeah, the GT 8 is a beast, no wonder Marty Friedman uses it.
