The concept of the program is that the choir leaders pick ordinary people for a choir from their respective home towns. The choirs then perform in TV, competing with each other. TV viewers vote and determine the winner, and each week another choir gets voted off.
The winner get to designate a home town charity which then receives 40000 Euro (about 50000 dollars). Timo decided the money should go for music education and band rehearsal spaces in Lappajärvi.
Week by week, Timo and his Lappajärvi choir crushed his fellow Finnish artists and choirs. First to be whipped was Kristiina Wheeler and her choir from Tampere. Then came the turn of Irina (Heinola) and her choir: they were roundly drubbed. Next, the can of choir whop-ass was opened on Veeti Kallio (from Salo), and it was not long before also Marion Rung (Helsinki) met her well-deserved Waterloo. Finally Mikki Kauste (Espoo) and his choir were subjugated and annihilated.
About half a million people watched every week, which means a tenth of the population of Finland were glued to their TV sets.
Lappajärvi has about 3,800 inhabitants.
Congratulations!
